Chapter 11: Night Raiders
Finally, they got dressed. John in his usual black suit and Elle with blue pants and a white t-shirt with cherries on it.
He fed Charlie and cooked him and Elle some eggs with potatoes and bread for breakfast.
"Cassandra will come in a few hours with a list of people who signed up for hunting and being a guard but in the meantime, I'll drag you through some training and see if you still want to be a guard."
He went and gave Elle her tactical outfit along with teaching her the basics of the pistol before making her workout like crazy.
He couldn't teach her hand-to-hand yet because she was simply too weak and ran out of breath too fast.
Finally, Helena came over and he told her to train Elle while he was gone, and she agreed to have Elle on her new squad which she named "Night Raiders."
When he left both Elle and Helena were already becoming better friends which made him happy as he needed his people to be a cohesive force.
He went back to the ground floor and opened the door to see Cassandra with a small frown.
He let her in, and they walked to his table and sat.
"What's wrong?" I asked pouring myself another glass of whiskey.
"If you keep drinking like this your livers going to go out soon." Cassandra huffed
"Is that why you are frowning? You're worried about me?" John smirked
Cassandra rolled her eyes before passing him a list.
"The first list is a list of craftsmen who didn't mind joining you, but the second list is about the hunting and the guards."
John nodded before glancing at the first list.
[Craftsman]
Olivia
Marnie
Gretchen
Erika
[Hunters]
Mickey
[Gaurds]
"What! Only one person volunteered for a hunter, and no one volunteered for a guard position?" John looked at Cassandra with surprise.
"Yeah, I was confused at first but then I realized the only time anyone has seen you lead was when you put a bullet into Campbell's head, and even though no one is upset about it that doesn't mean they aren't scared they will be next," Cassandra said.
"I guess I'll need to make an appearance then." John scratched his chin.
"That or wait till the craftsman spread the word about you not being a psychopath." Cassandra offered her idea.
"Yeah, I guess I'll wait for them to spread the word because I still need to renovate the bakery into a crafting station and teach the others how to make a bow and arrows," John said.
"Speaking of which were you able to get all of the supplies I asked for." John looked at Cassandra who smiled.
"Of course. We got the 8-inch draw knife, large rasp, Hatchet, measuring tape, straight edge, chalk line, pencil, card scraper, compass, Hickory wood, and Elmwood. Plus a bunch of other stuff, you asked for is all waiting in the old Bakery building." Cassandra said with a proud smile and John nodded.
"Good work."
"Send those four craftsmen to the bakery along with Mickey, I need to take his measurements to build his bow."
"Understood."
"What about Will, does he know how to dry meat?" John asked
"Allie asked him, and he said he does know how and that he could train some people up pretty easily." Cassandra nodded.
"That's good or else we might have wasted a lot of meat learning how to dry it." John smiled'
"Oh, and we already have a few people who can make fur blankets and coats, they are ready to start when you bring back the first furs from your hunts." Cassandra picked up the glass of whiskey and took a sip but her face scrunched up.
"Nasty!" She wiped her tongue on her sleeve.
"Haha!" John slapped the table and laughed before taking another swig of whiskey.'
"I don't know how you drink that shit," Cassandra said in disgust.
"By swallowing it down and not spitting it out onto my table," John said while looking at the whiskey she spat on his nice wooden table.
Cassandra just rolled her eyes.
"Alright I'm out of here, I got a lot of work to do," Cassandra said before leaving his house in a rush.
"Huh, I guess I'll go make the tillering rack and sort out the craft shop."
