A second hesitation and the knife comes off my hand right into the ghoul's throat, but the dude wasn't so simple and instantly sent his sunglasses flying, throwing off the entire trajectory of the throw.
- Not bad...' The blond smiled, not hiding his fangs. - It won't save you, though.
Instantly blocking the bloodsucker's blow, I punched him in the nose, driving the cartilage straight into his brain. The ghoul's face already resembled a bloody mess, but immediately it began to regenerate rapidly.
- What curious food is on the menu today. - He grinned and began to slowly wipe the blood from his face with a pocket handkerchief, throwing away the ruined cloth he whistled frantically. - If 'compulsion' didn't work, there's always the power option. Guys try not to kill him, I want him to see how I'm going to have dinner, so do your best. - The blond ordered someone in the shadows and arrogantly spat blood, his own blood.
I just grinned and, checking Felicia, who still hadn't come to her senses, started counting the number of future corpses. Forty-three. And they're all vampires? How do they feed such a horde of undead? But now it didn't matter, because I was more interested in another thing: how were the video cameras here? I wouldn't want to be scandalised because of the bullshit, but you can't leave the blonde for 'dinner' in the company of these undoubtedly beautiful 'gentlemen', can you?
Well, we'll have to play on the edge of human capabilities, and you won't use weapons, but then what's the point of it? Did they choose a 'good' place or were they so sure of their 'compulsion'? Who would have thought that those vampire bastards would attack in the middle of the city?
The first enemy came too close, and I immediately clamped my opponent's arm and made a slashing motion, pressing his face right into the asphalt and technically finishing him off with a blow to the head with my tibia, even if he was three times a vampire, but it would keep him busy for a while. But my enemy was in no hurry to get up, or even to move at all, maybe he was a human after all? Or are humans just food to them and not worthy of service? You know, I don't care.
Slightly accelerated, I kick another opponent exactly in the body. And there seem to be more and more of them.
Pulling out another knife, I began to almost imperceptibly slash the tendons of all the attackers. Let's see how many of them are human. Periodically distracted by Felicia and seeing that she still hadn't come to her senses, I only quickened my pace. After a couple of minutes of fighting, it turned out that all the attackers turned out to be ordinary people. Is it compulsion or are they willingly serving this ghoul?
- Well, I'll have to deal with you personally. - said the dude with a slight annoyance. - I guess you are 'slightly' different from ordinary people? - The blond smiled thoughtfully.
He snapped his fingers and summoned a small cloud of coal-black light, and it began to gather into a full-sized blade that any self-respecting barbarian would want, for the flamberg looked quite menacing. The vampire grinned, but no sooner had he taken a step than he was struck by a powerful blow. A moment and he was crumbling into black ash.
- Long time no see, lad. - The undead hunter smiled impeccably. - It's been a while since we've seen each other, don't you think? - He grinned, adjusting his cloak. - Maybe you'd like to be my apprentice? - taking off his glasses, the hunter said.
- I'll think about it, and I have your number. - I said softly, hugging Felicia in an attempt to quietly slip away from the scene of another massacre. - Thanks for your help. - I said afterwards.
- You could have done it yourself, kid. - He grinned again and went to finish off the rest of the ghoul's henchmen.
- Vampires... I hate fucking vampires...' was all I said as I approached the small café.
- Did you say something, Peter? - Felicia came to her senses. - Oh, are we there yet? I thought your shawarma would be somewhere on the outskirts of the city. - The girl smiled as if she hadn't just been under the sway of a foppish ghoul.
- As you can see, I know how to surprise. How about the sharpest one? - I smile innocently back.
- And take your hands off my waist. - the snow queen said coldly.
So I rescued you for nothing? Eh, people don't appreciate good deeds, especially if they don't know about them. Though if I tell you about it, it will raise new questions, and I need it? So we'll assume that I didn't save anyone, because she's such a tsatsa. But it's supposed to be normal for her, so it doesn't matter.
- The sharpest one, then? A sudden choice Felicia, very sudden. - I smiled wryly in the face of the miss who had not said anything, I just nodded, as they say, I did a nasty thing, but I'm happy?
After chatting for a couple of minutes with the familiar 'chief' I ordered two ultra-spicy shawarma, and myself with tartar sauce. I wondered why the hell the vampires were wandering around so quietly, and then I looked over at Miss Hardy, who was studying her unfamiliar 'mini-cafe' with undisguised interest. But how would the golden youth know about the delights of street food?
Perhaps the same Michelin restaurant looks better, but here it is still heartier and a 'little bit more diverse than in the same cleaned up to obscene establishments. However, going to an unfamiliar place can sometimes turn into a game of Russian roulette for your stomach, but it's already trifles, because what gourmet will refuse to try something new? After all, life is full of pleasures, delicious food and beautiful love. Soon our two shavas in cheesy pita were ready, and after critically examining the apparently unfamiliar food and remembering my words about the spiciest, she chose the one that was closer to me. Naive child.
- Not bad. - the girl said discreetly. - So this is the kind of food you like? - she said with defiance.
- I like spicy food, but I've never turned down something new and possibly tasty. And you? - answering honestly, I ask a counter question.
- I like ice cream. With cognac or whiskey. - our blonde suddenly confessed. - But that's just for flavour and to refresh the taste. - Miss Hardy tried to justify herself, but I nodded understandingly, and why not?
I like ice cream, too. It doesn't matter if it's winter or summer. It is always to my liking, and even better with homemade jam. And ghee ice cream is also quite good, I remember being small I used to fill a whole mug with it and sink it on the old battery, even if it was not too fast, but it was worth it. A taste of childhood and a nice nostalgia attached along with the ice cream. Maybe we could have a sit-down like this with Fox or Carrot sometime?
While Felicia tasted the dishes of mere mortals, I habitually pulled out my smartphone and wrote to a couple of other equally enchanting misses. If you don't keep in touch with them, they lose all interest in your modest persona, it would be nice to go for a walk, but that would be postponed for another day, or it would be too palaverous. But a couple of messages and neutral questions are quite suitable, communication is desirable to spend with a bit of humour that is understandable to your interlocutor. However, what I tell you, because everyone has his own approach to build an interesting dialogue.
It was sad that she didn't remember the meeting with the vampire, but it was all for the best, and who knows what it would have led to? If there are cameras or witnesses, I'll plead self-defence and defence of Miss Hardy, if it's a real sticking point, let's hope it doesn't come to that.
- This is really good. - suddenly said our snow queen, blushing slightly from the copious amounts of spices. - Parker, why didn't you go to Scorpion as an apprentice? This master is also highly respected and competent in the matter of training. He has a lot of students and a good reputation earned by blood and sweat in international competitions, and if all that they say about you is true, then you would easily become his personal student. - The girl was still not relenting and continued her unhurried interrogation, and what was she so curious about?
- Scorpius, you say? I seem to recall that I had beaten his best student, so I didn't even consider their dojo to find a master. In fact, that's where Creed was recommended to me. - I continued, looking at Felicia's surprised face. - And this 'mafioso' is exactly what got me. Indifferently showing such a 'warm' reception that he is not happy about new students, but I was persistent, so in the end I got what I wanted. Even though he really is a lousy teacher, but it's very interesting and it's like a game of roulette, you know, the one that is practised with a revolver and one cartridge, that's how my 'apprenticeship' with Victor Creed can be characterised. - After I finished my speech, I began my rapidly cooling shawarma.
- What a horrible thing to say, Peter. - I guess the girl was really surprised. - You must have humiliated those students too much, so they sent you to that psycho, hoping he'd shoot you. What an arsehole. - Felicia swore for the first time in my memory. - Wait, how did you defeat the strongest disciple of Scorpius? - The girl asked doubtfully, but I just shrugged my shoulders calmly, not in a hurry to get away from such a delicious meal.
- Why do you need all this information? - I asked after finishing another piece of tasty meat.
- I'm a member of the university magazine, so the next article will be about you, but don't tell anyone. - Miss Hardy was sweetly embarrassed.
- Is that so? Then we could very well have another date. - I smiled victoriously as I looked at the blonde, and I couldn't tell if it was from the spicy food, embarrassment, or anger, but either outcome was fine with me.
- And it's not a date. - Felicia immediately put on her snow queen mask.
- Whatever you say, kitten, whatever you say...' I smiled again and got a cute growl from the exasperated Miss Hardy.
How I love pissing people off. After we finished eating, we headed back at a leisurely pace. Walking through the same neighbourhood with an undercurrent of apprehension, I noticed only crystal clarity and no footprints. Fast work, but by whom? Vampires or a hunter after all? After dropping Felicia off at the residence, I hurried home, but then I remembered I wanted to treat May, so I decided to stop for pizza. Using maps and estimates, I drove straight there.
The pizzeria was already empty, and only a scowling man with an army haircut and a dog was sitting in a corner somewhere. Habitually choosing what May always took, I sat down across from the scowling man with the military haircut, waiting for my order.
- Hey, Castle...' some Irishman said, entering the pizzeria.
