Chapter 33 - In Sync, Refusing to Back Down
Under the overwhelming pressure:
Xiao Ye felt as though he was a pebble thrown into a molten volcano. Pain scorched every inch of his body, and he could barely contain the urge to scream in agony.
Why did all the women of the Qingming Sect seem intent on killing him?
His heart ached more than his body.
He couldn’t understand and didn’t have the luxury of pondering it.
“Master, save me!” he called out instinctively.
This plea wasn’t directed at Elder Li but at his newly recognized master—Master Wanjun.
In an instant, a blazing figure shot forth from the flying vessel, dispersing the oppressive aura like a gentle spring rain.
“Niece Situ, were you trying to kill the new disciple I just recruited from Heavenly Origin City?” Master Wanjun’s face darkened as he looked at the figure in the sky.
“Oh?”
“Turns out he’s a Heavenly Thunder Peak disciple?”
“I didn’t see any Qingming Sect uniforms on them, so I thought they were intruders!”
“To protect the sect, I reacted instinctively and attacked without thinking!”
“My apologies, Uncle Wanjun!” Situ Qingqing retracted her summoned violet phoenix with an apologetic look toward Master Wanjun, sounding sincerely remorseful.
‘So it was a misunderstanding, just because we weren’t wearing sect robes,’ Xiao Ye thought with relief, his fear melting away.
As expected, even if he couldn’t capture the heart of a beauty, it didn’t mean he should be treated as a common target.
“Hmph!”
“If wearing the wrong attire makes one an enemy, then you’re not in sect robes either, Situ. Does that mean I should treat you as a foe?” Master Wanjun’s tone was cold and stern.
“Uncle Wanjun, I was only acting to protect the sect. If you insist on blaming me, my master will surely hear of this and personally come to apologize tomorrow…at Heavenly Thunder Peak,” Situ Qingqing’s voice turned soft and pitiful, as if she dreaded her master’s involvement.
But Master Wanjun caught the hidden message in her words: best to let it go, or else her master might personally get involved—and whether he’d come to apologize or deliver a lesson was up to him.
Master Wanjun had no choice but to endure for now.
Only when his demonic cultivation was complete would the time for reckoning arrive.
With a forced smile, Master Wanjun reluctantly said, “Ignorance is forgivable. Since you acted for the sect’s safety, Situ, I won’t press further. Just don’t let it happen again.”
“Thank you for your understanding, Uncle Wanjun! I won’t tell Master about this,” Situ Qingqing replied sweetly.
Master Wanjun’s eye twitched.
At that moment, another flying vessel landed—it was Xue Jinli’s.
Situ Qingqing beamed, flitting over to welcome her like a happy butterfly.
A moment later—
“Aah!”
A scream escaped Xiao Ye as Situ Qingqing “accidentally” stepped on his fingers.
“Oh! I didn’t see you there,” she said with mock innocence, giving him a fleeting glance. “Are you okay?”
Xiao Ye gritted his teeth, suppressing the pain shooting through his fingers as he forced a composed smile. “It’s fine, Senior Sister.”
Elder Li, from within the jade pendant, could only shake his head.
Bones crushed, yet still pretending it doesn’t hurt!
Xiao Ye was still Xiao Ye—entranced by beauty, all else faded from his mind.
“No problem? Then why scream and make me worry?” Situ Qingqing feigned annoyance, giving him a hard stare before turning to greet Xue Jinli, who was disembarking from the vessel.
“Third Senior Sister, you are finally back!”
Xiao Ye’s mind went blank as he realized the relationship between the two women.
This gorgeous woman Situ just called Xue Jinli “Third Senior Sister”?
In an instant, everything clicked—she did it on purpose!
But he couldn’t fathom why all the women of Purple Cloud Peak seemed hell-bent on ridding the world of him.
Could Elder Li have been right? Could someone be orchestrating his misfortunes?
Xue Jinli, followed by Liu Beifeng, stepped down from the flying vessel, her gaze sweeping over the scene of people kneeling. A slight smile formed on her lips as she turned to Situ Qingqing.
“Qing’er, you arrived quickly,” she remarked.
“I came as soon as I received your message, but I nearly had a misunderstanding with Uncle Wanjun,” Situ replied.
“Oh? What sort of misunderstanding?” Xue Jinli asked with interest.
“I didn’t see these folks in sect robes, so I mistook them for enemies and acted. I didn’t realize they were Uncle Wanjun’s new disciples,” Situ explained.
“Qing’er, how could you act so rashly? Striking out without verifying the situation is practically a slap in Uncle Wanjun’s face,” Xue Jinli scolded while giving Master Wanjun a cool look. “Don’t worry, Uncle Wanjun. I’ll report this to my master so he can discipline Qing’er on your behalf.”
Master Wanjun’s face twitched.
They were in perfect sync, one after another, using Xu Yang as a veiled threat against him.
Did they really think he was made of clay?
“Disciple Xue, it was all a misunderstanding. I’ve already forgiven Situ for her impulsiveness. No need to disturb Master Xu’s cultivation,” he replied, his smile strained.
“Since Uncle Master Wanjun is so gracious, I’ll have no choice but to let it go,” Xue Jinli responded, pretending to be reluctant as she led Liu Beifeng and Situ Qingqing away.
On the way to Purple Cloud Peak:
Xue Jinli playfully swatted Situ Qingqing on the back. “Qing’er, why did you signal me to let that old goat off? Do you have any idea what I went through in Heavenly Origin City?”
Smack!
Situ Qingqing, who barely flinched, sighed and replied, “It’s complicated. Once we see Master, you’ll understand.”
Xue Jinli furrowed her brows in confusion but said nothing. She turned and introduced Liu Beifeng. “This is Liu Beifeng, the best candidate in Heavenly Origin City.”
“Nice to meet you, Senior Sister,” Liu Beifeng said shyly, bowing.
“No need for formalities. I’m Situ Qingqing, fourth-ranked in Purple Cloud Peak. You can call me Senior Sister Situ or Fourth Senior Sister. I don’t mind either way,” Situ replied casually, her gaze flicking briefly to Liu Beifeng’s chest before smiling.
“Liu, aren’t those bindings uncomfortable?” Qing’er asked.
Liu Beifeng blushed deeply, mumbling, “I’m…used to it.”
“Getting used to it is fine, but you shouldn’t bind them for too long. If you do, it’ll make them misshapen, and that’ll feel less comfortable to touch,” Situ remarked, absentmindedly repeating advice her master had once given her.
Sensing something odd, Xue Jinli immediately reached for Situ’s chest.
Situ, realizing her intentions, quickly covered her chest with both arms. “Third Senior Sister, what’s gotten into you?”
“Just let me check. Once I’m sure they’re fine, I’ll stop,” Xue Jinli teased.
“There’s no need…”
“Then let me check to be sure…”
“Can’t you check your own?”
“Not the same. Yours are…larger.”
As Situ dashed away with Xue Jinli hot on her heels, Liu Beifeng trailed behind, both amused and wary of getting caught in the crossfire.
