Chapter 13: Adam?
"I don't like this Sam," John told his son as he was driving his truck. A 1981 GMC Sierra Grande.
"Well father, liking it or not, this is our only option." Sam stated as he was looking out the window.
"Bringing Adam into this life... It's- It's not something I want Sam. I wanted to keep him out of this, not bring him head first into the supernatural world.
And we aren't even doing just that, we're dragging him into a war between Heaven and Hell. He deserves better than that," John explained.
"You don't hear me disagreeing father, but he's a Winchester and sadly this family's cursed. I've already told you about my... Knowledge, knowledge about events yet to happen. You have to understand why this is necessary."
"I do, but it doesn't mean I have to like it." John retorted. And he did, he did understand. His son already hinted at seemingly having knowledge of what appeared to be a possible future.
John had to believe it to be just a possible future and not The Future because if it was then all of this is meaningless, already set in stone.
His son didn't tell him exactly what the plan was but apparently they needed a 'Righteous Man' and apparently that kind of man must also be a Winchester.
The demons have plans for such a man which Sam was unwilling to divulge no matter how much John prodded, something about it not being the right time yet for that discussion.
But the thing that convinced him was that Adam was going to be killed. Him and his mother, eaten by filthy ghouls out for revenge.
"You told me that Adam's mother- Kate Milligan actually knows about the Supernatural right?"
"Yeah, I saved her from a poltergeist haunting the hospital she worked at. She was saved by me and patched me up.
Though It was when I was still fairly new to hunting and this bastard was a nasty piece of work.
I needed somewhere safe to be taken care of so she took me to her home and nursed me back there." John explained, a hint of fondness in his tone.
"And that's when- you know happened. She was-" John began with a grin.
"Okay, father, stop, too much information. I think I understand now where Dean got it from." Sam interrupted with a disgusted face.
No one wants to picture their father or mother in bed doing the nasty.
"But back to what I was meaning to ask, since she knows of the life, you think she'll not make it difficult?" Sam questioned.
"I don't know Sam, I've visited her as much as I could without neglecting you boys and the mission. I've explained to her a lot so I hope so, but dropping her entire life?
Leaving everything she knows for the unknown even if the staying in the same life will lead to death? I can't say, all we can do is hope." John answered as he drove faster.
-----------------------------------------
As they arrived John knocked on the door and called out to her. She asked for some confirmation that it was him, apparently they had some kind of code word akin to Sam and with Dean's 'poughkeepsie.'
Soon after they were let in, apparently Adam wasn't home which made it easier to explain everything as she had enough basic knowledge to not think of them as lunatics.
"So, John, you up and disappear for an entire year-" Sam's head sharply turns towards his dad, who doesn't look him in the eyes, because Sam's look is evident enough of what he wants to say, 'You didn't think that was important information to share father?'
"-you stroll back in. Tell me If I don't drop everything and run with you together with Adam I'm going to be killed and my son's going to be taken by fucking demons!?"
"Look, Ma'am," Sam begins before his father can say anything more. "I know this is difficult for you. Believe me, I myself... I recently lost whatever normal life I've had too.
This demon that we're talking about, pinned my girlfriend on the ceiling, cut her stomach open, and nearly burned her to death if I didn't get there and save her.
He failed with her, but succeeded with my mother. This thing isn't the type to stop, it just acts and acts and acts whatever evil it is till it gets what it wants and I can't tell you what it wants from Adam. I don't know if the time is right for this information to be out of the safety of my own mind.
But you got to know, this thing needs a Winchester for its plan. A Righteous Man, someone pure, clean, good, and that only leaves three people alive and present that fit that criteria. My father John, my brother Dean and my youngest brother, your son Adam. I myself don't fit the criteria. I am not exactly clean-"
"Sam-" John began.
"No father, its the truth and if we want to convince her she needs to know what she's up against.
That demon came to me at 6 months old and fed me it's blood, forever making me impure, unclean.
And I've accepted that, learned to turn it into a force for good, but the plans it has for Adam, it isn't the same but it is similar and Adam doesn't deserve that.
The demon won't stop and I will never let it take my father or big brother and I don't want it to take Adam either, but if you don't accept this and come with us we won't be able to protect him nor you.
So whether you like it or not you've got two options, you come with us then you both will be protected till God-willing this all blows over and you can go back to your lives or you stay, Father, Dean and me will do the best we can to protect you but we won't always be able to.
We got other responsibilities, responsibilities if not met could mean the end of the world, so miss Kate, the choice is yours." Sam finished and as he did Kate's face was pale.
She fell onto her couch and cupped her face in her hands, after rubbing her face a bit and a bit of the paleness leaves her voice comes out muffled, "I don't know what to tell Adam..." She says.
"Kate," John begins as he stands up and gets on one knee next to her, bringing her head to his chest, "You don't need to worry, we'll explain everything. He's a smart young man, he'll understand." John consoles her.
"How will he even believe us John!? He hasn't seen what I've seen!"
"You don't need to worry about that," Sam tells her as the water in the glass given to them to drink begins to float, "I've got your proof covered." She stands agape for a couple of moments but nods in relief.
And so they waited while John comforted Kate. Sam himself while this was relieved he came alone with his father and didn't bring Dean.
Dean was the one who spent four years with their mother and would take it the hardest for their father to be with Kate.
As he went to the kitchen to make them some tea, not having given Kate any time to give them anything because of the need to explain everything fast, the front door clicked as Adam came home, opening the door with his copy of the home key.
"Mom, I'm home!" Adam yelled walking through the hallway into the living room, and as he came inside, while John was relieved to see his son after so long Sam's expression was anything but relief, for what he saw wasn't only Adam.
He saw light pouring out of him through every pore and on instinct brought his psychic powers out and to everyone's shock pinned Adam to the wall, holding him in place with a vice like grip.
"Who the hell are you! What have you done with Adam!?" Sam roared and as he did, Adam's eyes lit electric blue.
An angel was present.
