Chapter 273 - 273: Rose Taylor's Attempt
Chapter 273: Chapter 273: Rose Taylor’s Attempt
Rose Taylor had been Lincoln Green’s wife for over ten years, so she naturally understood him.
Seeing Lincoln suddenly scrutinizing his daughter, she felt alarmed. “Honey, try this. I had the kitchen make it especially for you.”
“Okay.” Lincoln withdrew his scrutinizing gaze from Ruby Green and responded to Rose, then took a bite before suddenly speaking. “Now that Ruby and Clark Stone have announced their engagement, and the two kids are fond of each other, the Stone family suggested setting the wedding date soon. I think it’s a good idea.”
Ruby’s face changed. “Dad, I’m still young. I don’t want to rush into this…”
“You’re not that young anymore. Abigail is three years younger than you and she’s already engaged to the second son. Getting married is just a matter of time. As her elder sister, you can’t fall behind.” Lincoln said solemnly.
Ruby’s reputation was completely ruined; the stepdaughter he had once been proud of had become a disgrace, and her personality had greatly changed. It was bad enough she hadn’t learned her lesson by now and still wasn’t behaving.
If she caused more trouble, even the Stone family would abandon her. How could he face that?
Ruby was furious, her face shifting colors, especially hearing Lincoln mention the fat bitch, but she didn’t dare to tear into him at this time. She could only grit her teeth and endure. Just then, her phone rang, saving her.
She got up to answer the call. Not long after, she returned to the dining table in anger.
Rose immediately asked, “Ruby, what happened?”
“Dad, Mom, it’s my fault for befriending the wrong person! I never expected her to harm me like this…” Ruby was trembling with anger.
“What exactly happened?” Lincoln frowned.
“It was Mona Wilde! I had friends investigate that day’s events, and today I got the hotel’s video from that night. I saw Mona secretly following us. It turns out she was the one who drugged me and called the reporters. It wasn’t a coincidence at all. Dad, I was framed!” Ruby wanted to tear Mona apart when she thought about how she had been harmed.
Lincoln hadn’t anticipated this. “Weren’t you friends?”
“She probably knew Clark liked Ruby, so she got jealous and hateful.” Rose hugged Ruby and turned to Lincoln to explain.
“This is too much! Just because of jealousy, she wanted to ruin Ruby? How can young girls today be so vicious!” Lincoln cursed, looking at the extremely aggrieved Ruby. He sighed softly. “Ruby, since things have come to this, your marriage with the Stone family…”
“Dad, don’t worry, I won’t make things difficult for you.” Ruby had already composed herself in Rose’s arms. Their current mutual goal was the Piers shares, so she temporarily endured Lincoln.
Hearing this, Lincoln felt like the obedient stepdaughter he once knew had returned and he nodded contentedly.
Rose seized the opportunity to ask, “Honey, Ruby is my only daughter. Even though her marriage might not be as grand as Abigail’s, it can’t be careless either. You know how shrewd the Stone family is. If Ruby marries without some backing, I’m afraid they’ll think our family is easy to bully.”
“Rose is right. But the company is struggling now. I’m afraid I can’t give Ruby too much…”
Before Lincoln finished speaking, the mother and daughter’s expressions had already changed slightly. The same thought occurred to both of them: this old man was still trying to hide things from them!
“Honey, it’s okay, I understand. I was thinking of giving Ruby the house you bought for me before. But that was your gift to me…” Rose didn’t wait for Lincoln to finish and quickly gave him a way out.
Lincoln felt a bit ashamed and hurriedly said, “Since I gave it to you, it’s yours to dispose of.”
“Thank you, honey!”
“Thank you, Dad.”
The mother and daughter lowered their heads, their eyes filled with resentment.
