Chapter 71: Absolute part 2
"AHHHH!"
Superman's agonized scream tore through the battlefield as he collapsed to his knees, his fingers trembling as they clutched the bloody stump where his arm had been only moments ago. His chest heaved with ragged, panicked breaths, the once-invincible Kryptonian now brought low by sheer brutality. The molten ground beneath him hissed as his Kryptonian blood dripped onto the volcanic surface, each drop sizzling into vapor almost instantly. But even as searing pain wracked his body, a much colder sensation gripped his heart, dread. A primal, all-consuming fear he had never truly known before.
William, standing amidst the carnage, his expression unreadable, took a single step forward, prepared to finish what he had started. His emerald eyes glowed with barely restrained power, the weight of his presence pressing down on the battlefield like a storm on the verge of eruption.
But then—
A ripple in the air. A shift in the battlefield's atmosphere. A suffocating pressure surged forward.
Darkseid moved.
"Enough," the New God growled, his voice reverberating through the desolate wasteland, a decree of annihilation. His crimson gaze locked onto William with the certainty of death itself. And then, with godly wrath, he struck.
"DIE, MORTAL!"
Darkseid's roar was like thunder rolling through an eternal void. His God Slayer spear descended like a judgment from the heavens, its obsidian blade gleaming with an eerie, otherworldly glow. The sheer force behind the strike sent shockwaves rippling outward, distorting the very air itself.
William reacted in an instant.
He rolled out of the way just as the spear came crashing down—
"CRASH!"
The planet shuddered beneath the might of Darkseid's blow. A cataclysmic shockwave erupted from the impact site, splitting the battlefield apart and sending magma gushing from fresh fissures in the tortured earth. Superman, still weakened, was caught in the aftershock, his already battered form tossed like a ragdoll across the smoldering landscape.
Darkseid wasted no time. His piercing eyes flared with renewed fury as he surged forward, his spear now thrusting toward William's stomach with deadly precision.
William saw it.
His instincts flared, his body flickering like a mirage.
"SHK!"
The spear impaled nothing. Only an afterimage remained.
William had already repositioned.
He reappeared behind Darkseid in an instant, his aura crackling with raw power. His muscles coiled like a predator ready to strike, and for the briefest moment, victory seemed within his grasp. His fist was primed to strike at Darkseid's exposed flank—
But Darkseid had anticipated it.
Before William could land a solid blow, Darkseid's omega beams ignited.
"FWOOSH!"
Twin beams of searing crimson energy erupted from Darkseid's eyes, their trajectories erratic and unpredictable, twisting through the air with chaotic intelligence.
William barely had time to react before they found their mark.
"BOOM!"
The beams struck him square in the back, detonating on impact. The force was overwhelming, sending him hurtling across the battlefield, his body carving a deep trench through the volcanic terrain as he fought against the momentum. Flames and debris erupted around him as he skidded to a violent stop, the ground beneath him still smoldering from the devastating assault.
Smoke curled from his scorched armor. His back burned from the residual energy of the omega beams, his every nerve screaming in pain.
Yet—
William grinned.
Through the haze of heat and destruction, he rose once more, his body crackling with power, his breath steady, his eyes alight with defiance.
William's eyes flared with a predatory light, his movements a blur as he weaved through the relentless onslaught of omega beams. Each streak of chaotic crimson energy cut through the air like a blade of pure destruction, scorching the battlefield with every missed shot.
"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"
The planet quaked under the repeated explosions, molten rock and debris erupting in every direction as Darkseid's wrath bore down upon him. William maneuvered with effortless precision, twisting and flipping through the inferno, his senses sharp enough to dance along the razor's edge of annihilation.
But then—
A miscalculation.
A final beam came at him from a bad angle, its erratic path leaving no room to evade. The air crackled as the ominous red light reflected in his narrowed eyes, but instead of panicking, he smirked.
His gaze flicked to the side.
Barda.
She was cowering in the distance, hidden within the broken remains of a toppled citadel, her usual defiance momentarily buried under the sheer terror of witnessing Darkseid's fury firsthand.
Perfect.
William's right arm tensed as he flooded it with a dangerous level of ki, his muscles crackling with raw, untamed power. His gauntlet glowed with a golden sheen, layers of energy reinforcing its structure until it became a battering ram of indomitable might.
With an effortless motion, he swung a devastating back fist—
"CRACK!"
The omega beam struck his armored gauntlet, struggling against the sheer force of his will. For a brief moment, reality itself trembled at the clash of power before—
"BOOM!"
With a burst of primal strength, William redirected the beam, slapping it away with contemptuous ease.
Straight toward Barda.
A dark premonition gripped her heart.
Her eyes widened in horror as time seemed to slow—
"WHOOSH!"
The crimson light pierced through her chest before she could even react.
Her breath hitched, a strangled gasp escaping her lips as she looked down at the gaping, smoldering hole where her heart had been. Her body trembled, her limbs losing all strength as an unbearable heat spread through her very essence.
And then the pain hit.
"AHHHHHH!"
Her screams ripped through the battlefield, raw and unfiltered agony bleeding into every note. The residual omega energy in the wound suddenly came alive, its chaotic tendrils creeping outward, devouring her from the inside. The very atoms of her body unraveled, torn apart by the all-consuming hunger of Darkseid's wrath-made-flesh.
Flesh melted. Bones disintegrated.
The once-proud warrior of Apokolips, the fearless Big Barda, was reduced to nothing but a bubbling puddle of blackened sludge. What little remained of her armor sizzled atop the molten ruin that had been her form.
Silence.
Darkseid stood frozen for a moment.
Then—
A deep rage built within him.
His connection to another of his underlings was severed, the tether snapping like brittle wire in the vast web of his dominion. His expression did not change, but the void in his burning red eyes grew darker, deeper, more violent.
The fool had dared to take what was his.
At the corner of his vision, golden text flickered into existence before William's eyes:
[System Quest – Slay Darkseid's Generals: 4/6]
[System Quest – Destroy Darkseid's Army: 787,535/1,000,000]
[Defeat Darkseid: 0/1]
William barely acknowledged it. He simply exhaled, his gaze shifting back to the new god before him.
Darkseid moved.
Faster than something his size should be able to.
With a single, explosive leap, the New God launched himself into the air, his spear poised for a lethal strike. The jagged blackened metal of its blade shimmered with pure destruction, a death sentence for any being it touched.
William reacted just as quickly.
At the very last second, he dodged to the left, narrowly evading the lethal thrust. His hands snapped forward, seizing the shaft of the spear mid-motion. A surge of raw strength coursed through his limbs as he twisted, using the momentum to hurl Darkseid into the distance.
"BOOM!"
The warlord crashed into the battlefield with seismic force, his feet digging trenches into the volcanic ground as he slid to a stop. Slowly, he turned, his red eyes burning with quiet fury.
William wasn't idle during the brief reprieve.
Reaching into the void with an authoritative gesture, his fingers clenched around something unseen.
The air rumbled.
Lightning erupted from the sky, coiling into a singular point in his grasp, solidifying into a weapon of divine wrath.
With a sharp "CRACK!" that split the heavens, his mighty Thunder-Spire materialized.
The colossal weapon pulsed with untamed storm energy, its surface wreathed in lightning so thick it could be mistaken for living blue fire. The weapon's Uru-infused tip gleamed with cosmic brilliance as William raised it, leveling its tip at Darkseid in a challenge.
The god of Apokolips narrowed his gaze.
For the first time in eons—
Someone had dared to stand as his equal.
And he would crush them for it.
Darkseid lunged, his massive form a blur of motion, the deadly blackened edge of his spear streaking toward William like a harbinger of death.
William met him head-on.
With equal ferocity, he thrust his Thunder-Spire forward, the Uru-infused weapon crackling with untamed lightning. The two divine weapons clashed in the heart of the battlefield, an earth-shattering collision that sent ripples of raw energy outward. The very air warped around them, sparks of volatile power dancing between the two warring forces as if the weapons themselves were engaged in their own battle for dominance.
A violent shockwave exploded outward from the impact, kicking up molten rock and debris, forcing both warriors to recoil momentarily. Their weapons repelled each other as though bound by opposing magnetic forces, an unseen struggle pushing them apart despite the will of their wielders.
But hesitation was not an option.
With predatory instinct, both combatants charged once more, their speed so blinding that they seemed to teleport to the center of the battlefield.
William swung downward, his Thunder-Spire slicing through the air like a storm-forged guillotine, electricity arcing wildly from its tip.
Darkseid twisted, his own godly reflexes coming into play as he raised his spear to intercept the strike. Metal clashed against metal in a flash of light, the force behind the blow enough to send seismic tremors rippling through the battlefield. With a calculated movement, Darkseid redirected the impact, using the momentum to spin his spear, this time attempting to slam the blunt end into William's ribs with bone-shattering force.
William's keen eyes caught the movement.
Not this time.
With impeccable timing, he maneuvered his foot into position, intercepting the shaft of Darkseid's spear just before it could reach him. The clash of force sent a sharp, echoing crack through the battlefield.
And then he countered.
Twisting his body, William channeled raw power into his leg and launched a devastating kick directly into Darkseid's chin.
"BOOM!"
The impact was like a warhead detonating at point-blank range.
Darkseid's head snapped backward as his massive form was blasted skyward, the sheer force behind the strike momentarily overwhelming even his godly durability. The sky split with the aftershock, and for the briefest of moments, it seemed as though William had gained the upper hand.
But Darkseid was no mere opponent.
Mid-flight, his burning red eyes flared with cunning.
A Boom Tube ignited above him, crackling with unstable energy. Without hesitation, Darkseid hurled himself into it, using his momentum to travel through the swirling vortex of space-time.
Before William could react, the Boom Tube opened once more—
Right behind him.
It was too late.
Darkseid emerged with monstrous speed, his massive fist already cocked back, black veins pulsing with pure destructive force.
"WHAM!"
His knuckles slammed into William's back with the force of an exploding star.
"CRACK!"
The sickening sound of ribs shattering echoed through the battlefield. White-hot pain lanced through William's torso as the sheer impact ripped the air from his lungs, forcing blood to surge up his throat. He coughed violently, crimson splattering onto the charred ground as his body was sent flying, carving a deep trench through the molten battlefield before finally coming to a skidding halt.
Smoke curled from his battered form. His breathing was ragged, his body trembling from the damage, but even through the agony—
He grinned.
Lightning crackled around him as he slowly rose to his feet, wiping the blood from his lips.
William took a deep breath, his body thrumming with power as he cupped his hands together in a stance known across dimensions. Sparks of deep blue ki crackled between his fingers, illuminating the battlefield with a brilliant, electrified glow. His aura sharpened, the air around him warping under the sheer force of his energy.
This was it.
"KA…"
The ground trembled beneath him, molten rivers rippling as his power spiked to unprecedented levels.
"ME…"
Electric arcs snapped through the sky, turning the darkened clouds overhead into a swirling tempest of raw energy. The battlefield itself seemed to shudder in anticipation.
"HA… ME… HA!"
With a thunderous roar, William thrust his palms forward, unleashing a colossal wave of energy.
The Kamehameha surged forth, a radiant torrent of condensed ki, brighter than the heart of a newborn star. It carved through the battlefield, obliterating anything in its path as it raced toward Darkseid, its sheer force bending the very fabric of reality around it.
Darkseid did not retreat.
His red eyes blazed with indignant fury as he stood his ground, summoning the full force of his Omega Beams.
Twin streams of chaotic destruction erupted from his gaze, carving jagged paths through the air before slamming headfirst into the incoming Kamehameha.
"BOOM!"
The collision sent out a cataclysmic shockwave, shaking the entire planet as both energies battled for dominance.
William gritted his teeth, the veins along his arms and neck bulging as he poured more power into his attack. The sheer force of the struggle sent cracks spiderwebbing beneath his feet, his body straining under the enormous output of energy.
Darkseid, in turn, dug his heels into the molten rock, his Omega Beams roaring with intensified fury. The battlefield around him was scorched black, his godly might pressing back against the wave of ki inch by inch.
For a moment, the two forces seemed locked in equilibrium—
Until William roared and pushed beyond his limits.
"WHOOSH!"
The Kamehameha surged forward, devouring the Omega Beams, tearing through the last of Darkseid's defense.
The warlord's burning red eyes widened slightly.
The next instant, the wave of ki slammed into him with the force of an apocalyptic supernova.
Darkseid was ripped from his stance, his massive form engulfed by the raw energy as he was launched across the battlefield like a comet of destruction. The energy carried him, hurling him into a massive pit of lava.
"BOOOOM!"
The magma pit erupted violently upon impact, a massive bubble of molten rock rising into the sky before bursting in a fiery explosion. A rain of molten fury descended upon the surrounding ruins, scorching everything in its wake.
Screams filled the air as entire buildings were reduced to slag, their stone foundations crumbling as the superheated liquid consumed all in its path. The very planet itself groaned in protest.
William exhaled, his chest rising and falling heavily. But his victory was not yet complete.
His sharp eyes flicked to the ground, catching sight of something familiar, a streak of blood trailing away from the spot where Superman had fallen.
With slow, deliberate steps, he followed the crimson path, his senses on high alert.
And there he was.
Superman, The Man of Steel, reduced to a pitiful wreck.
Slouched against the crumbling remains of a wall, his once-proud form was battered and broken, his body barely able to hold itself upright. His chest rose and fell in uneven gasps, every breath seemingly an effort. His normally unyielding blue eyes were glazed with despair, his face streaked with blood, sweat, and dirt.
Tears and snot ran freely down his face as he trembled, his fingers weakly clawing at the ground in a desperate attempt to retreat. There was no longer a hero here, only a man who had lost everything.
William took a step forward, his expression cold, unwavering.
Superman flinched.
But before he could move in for the kill—
"THOOM!"
The battlefield quaked violently.
From deep beneath the earth, an unstoppable force exploded upward, sending molten rock scattering in every direction.
Darkseid.
A monstrous shadow emerged from the inferno, his massive frame wreathed in smoke and fury. His body was battle-worn, his armor scorched, his expression twisted with unrelenting rage.
His form blurred as he shot forward, moving with devastating speed—
Before William could react, Darkseid was upon him.
"THE KRYPTONIAN IS MINE!"
A colossal fist, blackened with the fury of a god, crashed into William's chest.
"CRACK!"
A shockwave rippled through his entire body as bones gave way beneath the force of the blow. The impact shattered the sound barrier, sending him rocketing skyward like a meteor, tearing through layers of atmosphere in an instant.
William barely had time to process the pain before—
He was in orbit.
