Reborn As A Bastard Child: Woah! I'm Super Overpowered

Chapter 25: Procuring a few weapons

"You broke the rule.

And now I have to pay the price."

A wave of chill washed the room. The damp air turned misty, the moisture present instantly turning to bubbles of water.

But before the harmless droplets could splatter on the floor, the temperature in the room dropped down by a few more degrees.

The small bubbles of water turned into shards of ice before crashing into the floor and shattering to pieces.

As for the æther girl, cracks appeared on her porcelain skin, breaking apart into chunks of dry ice.

Every extension of her sizzled away into wisps of carbon dioxide as the temperature in the room slowly returned to normal leaving behind only her core.

A small but pure, refined bubble of a cold gleaming viscous glob of swirling obsidian æther.

Simultaneously, a tattoo appeared on the back of Raven's palm, the exact same colour as of black ink.

This signified that the formation of a bond between Raven and the æther has been successful.

This bit of information the system had extracted for Raven from Balthazar Ralph Ignaz's library.

Now only one question remained.

Which weapon to primarily transform the æther to as its base form?

Knowledge of a multitude of weapons shifted in his mind, knowledge which the system had acquired for him, not something he did himself.

A sword or a sabre?

That would be too commonplace.

A spear or a scythe?

Too large to lug around.

Sure, he technically did not need to lug the æther around in the form of a weapon, but he wanted to do so, in order to grant himself a bit of security.

Then suddenly in Raven's mind appeared a form of weapon he had so many times seen in cinemas. A hella cool one.

A gun.

Small, portable and hidden. But deadly lethal.

The perfect weapon for a man from a somewhat futuristic era.

But there was one problem.

Raven did not know the first thing about marksmanship. He only knew how to pull the trigger, something often shown vividly in the movies.

Fortunately, the system came to his rescue by opening a particularly useful screen in front of Raven.

[Skill: Gunslinger (Passive) responds.

Skill description: Host is aware as much knowledge about firearms as the mankind of earth knows, maybe even more.

Skill: Impeccable Marksman (Passive) responds.

Skill Description: No bullet fired by the host will ever miss its target.

Skill: Mana Bullets (Active)

responds

Skill description: Instead of physical bullets, condensed mana would be used.

Benefits: Host will not have to procure cartridge

Drawback: Host will have to expend his own mana.

Alert: This drawback doesn't apply to current host as host possesses infinite mana.

Skill: Hidden Threat (Active) responds

Skill Description: Target will not perceive any bullet fired by host as long as target does not see that host is using a gun.

Thus reassured, Raven decided to transform the æther into a gun, more precisely a Colt Python, often dubbed as one of the most effective revolvers ever made.

The æther changed its form seamlessly.

=======

Satisfied with the æther's performance, Raven's lips curled up into a ghost of a smile.

Then, Raven glanced down at the sword still clutched in his hand. It felt like an useless hunk of steel, its edge chipped away by the vast expanse of time.

Entirely unlike the weapon that was streaking towards him a few moments ago to cut him down where he stood.

"Looks like I have to bond with this one as well" mourned Raven with a sigh.

And then a few drops of his blood were successfully wasted.

Or so he believed.

As soon as the formation of a bond was completed, the sword hummed with energy, a sapphire aura enveloping its surface.

Its rusty surface seemingly lacking lustre mere moments ago was now enveloped in an ethereal shine, as if reflecting off the glimmer on a full moon night.

But while the moon is marred with imperfections, this sword appeared to be lacking any.

Raven recalled the name of the sword.

Moonshine blade...

Which idiot named this pretty thing after the moon which doesn't have its own shine and reflects the light of the sun?

Swinging the sword lightly in a few fluid motions, Raven decided that the title of Moonshine Blade did indeed fall short.

I'd be damned if I don't name you Starlight.

Muttered Raven under his breath.

And the blade twitched subtly, its lustre sharpening and its edge smoothening, as if in appreciation Raven's concern but unwilling to let him know about it.

But with his maxed out perception stats, Raven caught on.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

Was Starlight a spirit sword?

The system remained infuriatingly silent.
