Chapter 13: Re-enter the System
Meanwhile, the person who got the entire Imperial Capital of Ignaz so riled up was sitting quietly on a log canoe, brooding over his next move.
The canoe was moored to a gigantic tree just at the outskirts of Demantoid Wilderness.
The dawn has just broken, but the sun was by no means visible amidst the thicks foilage. A very comforting silence hung over the Demantoid Wilderness, stirred by the occassional birdcall. The scent of wildflowers floated in the air, sweet and slightly musky, but by no means nauseating.
He was alone, his subordinates having fanned out to hunt within a fifty meter radius, staying just within Raven's range in case an unexpected variable arises, under Raven's own command.
The gentle waves of the river Luna rocked the canoe lazily, acting as a stimulating agent to soothe Raven's inner turmoil.
The Weaponry Archive Robbery was a success, thanks to Eric divulging the fact that the guards had been replaced with much weaker ones, albeit temporarily when the question of gathering equipment had come up.
As to how Eric had got hold of this information?
Eric's title was Ignatius, and he was a distant nephew of Raum Valentine, the Defence Minister.
Raum Valentine kept the emperor as well as the royal family under a constant surveillance, unbeknownst to His Majesty.
He was well aware of the switch in the assignment of the guards and had himself tasked Eric to try and arrange a robbery, so that he would get a chance to yet again defame the emperor, and …maybe take a shot at the throne himself?
But Raum Valentine didn't really think that a robbery would have been possible, as the exact location of the Weaponry Archive was unknown to even him as well, much less to Eric.
So when Eric managed to persuade Raven and Raven pulled it off, there was no one happier in the entire planet than Raum Valentine. Even the word 'absolutely ecstatic' would fall short to describe Raum Valentine's mental state.
Eric had tagged along Raven to the Demantoid Wilderness under the command of Raum Valentine as well, but of course he had revealed all his ulterior motives to our MC.
Because Raven might not be strong enough to contend with his half siblings and the emperor right then, he was still sufficiently capable of annihilating small fries like Eric, which he had made amply clear by killing off the nine guards previously.
In Raven's mind, the plan for surviving the first day in Demantoid Wilderness was pretty much clear.
The Demantoid Wilderness had a certain rugged and aloof charm which lured people deep inside the forest's heart, and they never returned, according to the common folks.
A good many stories about how people penetrating deep inside the forest's core without a single difficulty but never coming back circulated widely in the Ignaz market, thus leading Raven to think that the forest probably possessed a soul and the outer rims of the wilderness were relatively safer.
And so there they were, securely lodged to the first tree of the forest, never daring to venture deeper.
As Raven was deeply engrossed in planning for the future days, a familiar ding resounded in his mind, its voice majestic and possessing a regal aura belonging to a true monarch.
Startled, Raven hurriedly began scanning his surroundings, but was cut off by a soft chuckle.
[Eh host, I was gone for a few hours and you already forgot all about me?]
The system questioned, genuine surprise radiating out of its perpetually genderless voice.
"Sy-system? You're …back?" Raven could only stammer.
[Of course, host. In fact, I had not gone anywhere. I was merely undergoing an upgradation. And I have been successful.
Here are your missed notifications.]
[Ding! System has undergone a massive transformation and achieved transdescence. ]
[Congratulations host! Your system has become a sentinel being.]
[All skills in the system shop has become free]
[All of host's stats can be maxed out. Does host accept?]
"Hell yeah, I accept! Is that even a question?" roared a stunned Raven.
[Host is requested to brace himself]
With that highly inadequate warning, Raven's transformation began. It felt like all his bones were being pulverized, all of his muscles torn apart. It caused a pain so fierce that Raven promptly gave up struggling, refusing to fight a losing battle and allowed himself to get knocked out.
It was probably an hour or two before he came round, surrounded by four wailing adults.
