Chapter 42: C-1: The Choice
I marched through the void, each step echoing in the emptiness as I pushed open the grand doors to the throne room. The sight of Ravanna and Chaos greeted me, their conversation halting as they turned their attention to me. Chaos's gaze was sharp, calculating, while Ravanna's held a glimmer of knowing amusement.
"I believe you've chosen your next life?" Ravanna asked, crossing her legs elegantly as she leaned forward, her golden hair cascading over her shoulders.
I strode forward, my boots clacking against the polished stone floor. "Yeah, I've done some thinking," I said, stopping before them. "The Wizarding World. I want to be reborn as Severus Snape."
Chaos's eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of something—curiosity, perhaps disappointment—flitting across her face. Ravanna's lips quirked upward, her expression faintly amused.
"Interesting," Ravanna murmured, twirling a strand of her hair between her fingers. "I'll admit, I'm curious to see what you'll accomplish in his body."
Chaos leaned forward, the oppressive weight of her presence pressing down on me like a tidal wave. "Alright," she said smoothly. "As agreed, you're allowed to make a wish. What will it be?"
I took a deep breath, steadying myself. This was the moment I'd rehearsed countless times. "I want my wife and my dog," I said firmly. "Not just for this world, but for all of them. I'm tired of being alone."
Chaos's expression darkened, her eyes glinting with barely restrained frustration. "You left your life as the God of the Underworld behind," she said with a sigh. "We can't just remove people from their worlds all the time."
"Shut up," I interrupted sharply, my voice cutting through the air. Chaos's eyes widened in shock, and even Ravanna raised an eyebrow. "I've done some thinking," I continued, my voice growing stronger. "You literally made a clone of my soul to replace me. Do the same with my wife and Cerberus. You're literally above everything else, so don't tell me you can't do it."
Chaos opened her mouth to argue, but Ravanna held up a hand, silencing her daughter. "It's fine," Ravanna said, her tone calm yet decisive. She snapped her fingers, and the air shimmered as a familiar figure appeared in the throne room.
Hecate stood frozen, looking as beautiful and serene as I remembered her. Ravanna's gaze softened momentarily before she sighed and snapped her fingers again. In a flash, a three-headed Rottweiler puppy appeared. Ravanna bent down, whispering something to the little creature, who shuddered and barked in response.
"I'll admit," Ravanna said, straightening up, "I was surprised when you rebuilt Cerberus into this entirely new beast. But taking a world-destroyer into so many realms wouldn't be wise. So, I'm giving you a better option. I've created a younger body for Cerberus. He'll grow to be twice the size of a normal Rottweiler. This is your chance to raise him yourself."
"Oh, uh, thank you?" I responded, a bit taken aback. She handed me Cerberus, who seemed far too excited to see me. I chuckled, giving each of his three heads a scratch behind the ears. The puppy yipped happily, his tails wagging furiously as he licked my hand.
Chaos sighed, summoning three dog treats from the air and handing them over. Cerberus eagerly snatched them, his three heads munching contentedly.
Ravanna then leaned back in her chair, her expression turning serious. "Now, to your mission," she began. "You are to become the most powerful wizard alive and defeat the Dark Lord and restore balance to the Wizarding World."
I frowned slightly, tilting my head. "Isn't that supposed to be Harry Potter's job? You know, the whole chosen one defeating Voldemort thing?"
Ravanna's smile turned sharp, almost predatory. "I'm not talking about Tom Riddle," she said smoothly. "Your task is to eliminate the real Dark Lord, the leader of the light—Albus Dumbledore."
That caught me off guard. "What? Dumbledore? He's the leader of the Light. What could he possibly—"
"Don't be naive," Ravanna interrupted, her voice cold and cutting. "In the name of 'good,' he's committed more atrocities than you'd imagine. Manipulating lives, sacrificing pawns, murdered millions, destroyed lives, and ensuring his control over the Wizarding World. He ensures chaos under the guise of order."
Chaos muttered under her breath, her tone dripping with disdain. "I wouldn't care if you offed Tom Riddle too. That evil git deserves whatever comes his way."
Ravanna ignored her daughter's comment and focused on me. "Dumbledore's crimes include deliberately setting up children to suffer, ensuring a boy grows up in abusive conditions to mold him into a weapon, and sacrificing countless lives to maintain his image. His actions have disrupted the balance, and I want him gone. You will restore order."
"And my wife?" I asked, straightening up and meeting Ravanna's gaze. "What will happen to her if I'm reborn as Severus Snape? Who will she be reborn as?"
Ravanna's expression softened as she stepped closer, giving Cerberus a gentle pat on one of his heads. "She will keep her memories, just as you do," she said. "But we'll speak with her after your rebirth. We'll clear up the truth for her and send her to be reborn in a new body. Don't worry—you'll know it's her when you see her."
"I see," I muttered, setting Cerberus down gently. My gaze lingered on Hecate, frozen but still radiating the quiet strength I had always admired. "Thank you. I guess I should get going then. When will I arrive?"
"You'll appear during your fourth year—" Chaos began.
"No," I interrupted. "Make it a month before the first year. I have things I want to prepare."
Chaos shrugged, casting a questioning glance at Ravanna, who nodded her approval. "Alright, if you say so," Chaos said, opening a rift in the void. The swirling portal shimmered with colors and shadows, its edges crackling with raw energy.
Before stepping through, I called to Cerberus, who was busy sniffing at a nearby pillar. "Cerberus, ακολούθα!" I commanded. The puppy perked up, bounding over to me with surprising agility. He fell in line at my side, his tails wagging enthusiastically.
With one last glance at Hecate, I sighed and whispered, "See you soon." Then, with the small Cerberus scampering by my side, we stepped through the rift.
