Rebirth of Bi Gan: A Male Student Traverses the “Investiture of God”

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Wounded Woman

Sunlight filtered through the tree branches, casting a warm glow on Zhang Hao as he awoke from his meditation, signaling the start of a new day. He rose to his feet and walked towards the site of yesterday's battle, where the carcass of the demonic beast still lay, a stark reminder of the harshness of this world. Zhang Hao, or rather Bi Gan, collected one of the beast's fangs, a trophy marking his first victory since his transmigration. Though young in appearance, he possessed the memories and wisdom of a transmigrator, fully aware that he must tread carefully to survive in this perilous world.

With his satchel on his back, Zhang Hao continued his journey towards Qingchuan Sect, a place coveted by all cultivators. He hoped to receive systematic guidance there and enhance his strength.

Deep within the forest, Zhang Hao heard faint moans. Cautiously, he approached and found a woman, Lin Yue, lying on the ground, her clothes torn and her body bearing obvious wounds. She had a slender figure with a delicate waist and ample curves, and her features were refined, her brows knitted with an unyielding determination. Despite her tattered attire, her innate nobility shone through.

Zhang Hao immediately stepped forward and asked with concern, "Miss, are you alright? Do you need assistance?"

Lin Yue looked up, her eyes reflecting a hint of wariness, clearly surprised and uneasy about Zhang Hao's presence. She slightly recoiled, assessing his intentions.

Noting her caution, Zhang Hao halted his advance, maintaining a respectful distance to avoid causing further distress. He spoke gently, "I mean you no harm. I, too, am a cultivator, just passing through. I noticed you were injured and wished to offer my help."

Lin Yue's eyes remained guarded, but her pain made movement impossible; she needed assistance. Observing Zhang Hao, she searched his face for any clues to determine if he was trustworthy.

As her injuries began to subside, Lin Yue started a conversation with Zhang Hao. Her voice was clear and slightly youthful, yet her words conveyed a dedication and passion for cultivation.

"How did you sustain these injuries?" Zhang Hao inquired, his tone filled with concern.

Lin Yue sighed, a flicker of fear crossing her eyes. "I came to the forest searching for spiritual herbs and encountered a demonic beast. I fought as best I could but was no match for it."

Nodding, Zhang Hao contemplated whether to reveal his status as a cultivator at the third layer of the Body Refinement stage but decided to keep silent. He extended his hand and helped Lin Yue to her feet. "If you're willing, I can assist you. We can travel together, at least until you reach Qingchuan Sect, where we can look out for one another."

Lin Yue hesitated, then slowly reached out, accepting Zhang Hao's help. Weak from her injuries, she leaned on Zhang Hao as they slowly made their way through the forest.

"Are you also heading to Qingchuan Sect?" Lin Yue asked.

"Yes, I hope to learn more about cultivation there," Zhang Hao replied.

From Lin Yue, Zhang Hao learned that she hailed from a family in the north, raised under the protection and expectations of her family and master. She had been sheltered and cultivated within her clan, never truly experiencing the world's dangers. This time, she had secretly left home for training, hoping to prove her abilities by joining Qingchuan Sect, only to be attacked by a demonic beast.

As the sun climbed higher, the temperature in the forest began to rise. Zhang Hao and Lin Yue found a small stream and decided to rest there for a while. The water was crystal clear, and the banks were dotted with colorful wildflowers. With Zhang Hao's help, Lin Yue carefully made her way to the stream, cupped her hands to splash cool water on her face, and revealed a relaxed smile. Zhang Hao sat on a large rock, watching Lin Yue, feeling a sense of responsibility. He knew this journey was not just about cultivation but also about finding companions, friends with whom he could stand shoulder to shoulder in battle.

During their walk, Lin Yue noticed the carcass of the demonic beast and stopped in surprise. "Did you do this? Did you defeat this beast?"

Zhang Hao nodded, his voice calm. "Yes, I encountered it here yesterday. I exploited its weakness and emerged victorious."

A glimmer of respect appeared in Lin Yue's eyes as she looked at Zhang Hao, realizing his strength far exceeded her expectations. "You are truly powerful, Zhang Hao. Thank you for helping me."

Zhang Hao smiled and shook his head. "We cultivators should help each other. Moreover, I believe you will become a formidable cultivator in the future."

"And you are brave, Lin Yue," Zhang Hao said earnestly, "Faced with the demonic beast, you did not retreat. Not everyone possesses such courage."

Lin Yue's face flushed slightly as she lowered her head, then quickly raised it again, her eyes gleaming with determination. "Though I may have acted impulsively, I understand that the path of a cultivator is to continually challenge oneself and overcome obstacles. I will not give up easily."

As they continued their journey, they finally caught sight of the traces of Qingchuan Sect. Beyond a dense forest, a towering peak rose from the earth, its summit enshrouded in mist, resembling a celestial realm. Although they had not yet reached the main entrance of the sect, they could already sense a powerful aura emanating from the depths of the mountain.

Zhang Hao and Lin Yue exchanged glances, both seeing the excitement and anticipation in each other's eyes. They knew this would be a significant turning point on their path of cultivation. They quickened their pace, heading towards the mysterious peak, their hearts filled with boundless longing for the future.
