Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 77 - 77: Old Acquaintance?

Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Old Acquaintance?

However, things always seemed to bring about what one feared most.

As the three of them drove, Guo Yang suddenly sensed a shadow overhead. His quick reflexes spun the steering wheel, and he saw a zombie with a purple body brush against the driver’s side window and fall outside!

The side mirror by the window had been knocked off, and just as Guo Yang was about to rush over, he saw the zombie suddenly spit out a burst of fire onto the hood of the car, which instantly caught fire!

Damn, could our luck be any worse! Could this be a Mutated Zombie?

Zombies with Special Abilities now?

“Old Xue, quickly call that kid Lu Hao,” Guo Yang said, noting they were just five minutes from Lu Hao’s family, and they couldn’t afford to get stuck here!

“No use, the phone has no signal!” Xue Wanyi replied.

Just then, global satellite signals were interrupted, and even widespread power outages occurred.

“What are we afraid of, the three of us against a fire-spitting zombie?” Liao Yifan was already prepared for a big fight.

Unfortunately, Liao Yifan miscalculated. Although there were three of them, they faced a Late Level Three Fire Element Zombie, and the three combined were no match for it.

Liao Yifan crashed heavily to the ground, wiping the corner of her mouth, tasting the obvious metallic flavor. Even she, a Power-type Special Ability User, couldn’t withstand a punch from this Fire Element Zombie.

“Liao Yifan!” Guo Yang gritted his teeth, grabbed the axe he carried, and swung it at the zombie!

This idiot.

Liao Yifan wanted to curse him out, but she didn’t even have the strength to shout.

Seeing Guo Yang charge forward, Xue Wanyi immediately used his Wind Element Ability against the Fire Element Zombie, but the zombie nimbly avoided it.

Guo Yang’s close-range attack was also easily dodged by the Fire Element Zombie. Seeing that the zombie was preparing another burst of fire, aimed straight at Guo Yang’s back, Liao Yifan desperately closed her eyes.

If I had known, I wouldn’t have been so harsh on him.

The expected scream didn’t come; instead, there was the sound of a gunshot and the zombie’s agonizing roar.

It was Lu Hao!

Xue Wanyi looked at Lu Hao rushing to their aid and the beauty behind him, suddenly unsure of whom to call out to.

“Ahem, Captain Lu!”

Despair turned to joy in an instant, and Liao Yifan experienced for the first time what it felt like to have a narrow escape from death.

Without stopping to chat with the three, Lu Hao turned and joined the fight. That last shot had temporarily repelled the zombie, but it hadn’t hit anything vital.

The Fire Element Zombie, having been hurt, roared angrily at Lu Hao, launching a fireball at him!

Lu Hao countered with a larger, darker ball of fire, which he hurled at the zombie’s Special Ability!

When Lian Jiyue arrived, he witnessed this scene: the two fireballs collided, producing a huge explosion. Clearly, the darker fireball prevailed, breaking through the lighter one and smashing into the zombie.

“Boom”

The zombie was struck and slammed into the ground, creating a crater in the concrete — a testament to the fireball’s immense power!

The Fire Element Zombie roared as it stood up again, lunging toward Lu Hao, only to be bound by a green vine that shot out, followed by a long-haired woman who rapidly ran behind the zombie and decapitated it!

“Xiao Jin, you stole the kill again,” Lu Hao said helplessly as he ruffled Su Jin’s hair.

“Quick battle, quick decision, hehe,” Su Jin felt a bit embarrassed too. She had seen an opening in the zombie and couldn’t resist taking it down, although Lu Hao could have handled it alone.

Watching the blissful smiles on the faces of the couple, Lian Jiyue, inexplicably, found it somewhat irritating. He flicked the unfinished cigarette butt to the ground, stomped on it, and strode forward.

“Lu Hao, long time no see”

“Captain Lian, long time no see”

Everyone watched as the two nearly equal in height and presence exchanged greetings with expressionless faces, setting a chilly tone around them.

In fact, there was no undercurrent between them; they were just plain in greeting, being naturally unexpressive.

“Who is this?” Lian Jiyue asked as he looked toward the red-clad woman behind Lu Hao. Hadn’t she worn white last time?

For some reason, upon seeing Su Jin, he felt as if they had met before, and the way Su Jin looked at him didn’t seem completely unfamiliar, as though they were old acquaintances.

“My wife,” Lu Hao stepped in front of Su Jin.

“Hm, are you a Fire Element?” Lian Jiyue asked another question.

“Yes.”

“Are you interested in joining my squad?” Lu Hao was a junior whom he remembered distinctly — reserved, ruthless yet capable, a promising talent. It was unexpected that he had also awakened a Special Ability and had even overpowered a Level Three Mutated Zombie without resistance.

“Thank you, but I have family I need to look after,” Lu Hao declined without hesitation.

Lian Jiyue wanted to mention that if they joined, his family could also receive protection, but seeing how direct Lu Hao’s refusal was, he knew he had his plans and didn’t press further.

“Alright, take care,” Lian Jiyue said and then turned and walked away.

Lu Hao noticed Su Jin behind him seemed to breathe a small sigh of relief.
