Rebirth in Journey to the West: Sun Wukong

Chapter 382: Reclaiming Some Interest (8th Update)

"Roar~!"

"Howl~!"

Angry roars echoed loudly, and the conversation of the Six-Eared Macaque and his two companions was not muted, allowing the demonic beasts to hear every word clearly. Although these beasts were not highly intelligent, they could sense the contempt and mockery in their tone. And it wasn't just low-rank demonic beasts that were present, but also a considerable number of mid-rank and even high-rank ones. Read new chapters at My Virtual Library Empire

For years they had roamed the Demonic Beast Continent unchallenged; when had they ever been so belittled? Moreover, with so many beasts, a single spit from each would be enough to drown the trio of the Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan, right?

"What's all the noise for? Yes, I'm talking about you! What, you don't agree, want to fight? Come on then, Grandpa Six-Eared will keep you company to the end!"

With a flash of golden light in his hand, the Six-Eared Macaque's Heaven-supporting Iron Staff appeared. A cold laugh whisked it into action as he charged into the beast tide, "Brother Mu, Brother Bull, I'll make the first move!"

"Wait up, you naughty monkey, wait for old Bull!" bellowed the Bull Demon King, exhaling two streams of white air from his nostrils. He followed suit, swinging his iron staff and rushing into battle. The Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan shook his head with a bemused smile and entered the fray as well.

The battle recommenced!

"Interesting, very interesting; it's been a long time since I've seen such an amusing scene! These little ones really do have some skills!"

The Demon Ancestor Luo Hu lay atop the clouds, beneath him a black lotus pedestal materialized. This was the top-grade Innate Spiritual Treasure, the Twelve-petaled World-destroying Black Lotus. In a battle with Hong Jun Daoist Ancestor, Luo Hu was defeated and nearly perished. It was with the aid of this Black Lotus that he managed to escape with half of his lifebound primordial spirit intact and fled back to the Demonic Realm, hiding within the pillar of the Demon Gods. Now, resurrected through the body of the Jidu Demon Emperor, Luo Hu had also brought the Black Lotus back to witness the daylight once more.

However, the God-Slaying Spear had been lost in the Three Realms. Once his physical body and primordial spirit were fully fused and his cultivation restored to its ancient glory, he would have to venture into the Three Realms to retrieve his divine weapon. Such a handy weapon could not be left misplaced.

Vastly outnumbered, the trio of Six-Eared Macaque seemed inconsequential compared to the millions of demonic beasts; but strength never bore an essential connection to numbers. The trio moved through the beast tide as if it were unguarded territory. Wherever they went, limbs were severed, and blood splattered, mingling with bursts of flame as they wreaked havoc, leaving no beast a match for even one of them!

Such one-sided carnage, akin to mowing down wheat, was unsustainable no matter the numbers. The demonic beasts went from fury and relentless advance to terror and hesitance, and finally, upon realizing that no matter how they attacked they couldn't injure the trio, while they themselves were easily slaughtered in droves, they came to their senses.

One by one, they turned to look in the direction of the Heavenly Demon Dragon, the Beast Emperor, for orders, only to find him engaged in fierce combat with Sun Wukong, unable to spare a moment for them. This realization threw them into even greater disarray, and the more timid began to turn tail and flee for their lives.

This retreat didn't matter much initially, but once it started, it was like a chain reaction; all the demonic beasts turned tail and began to flee. In a moment, the beast tide that had attacked the Boundary Bridge en masse reversed direction, scattering and fleeing back the way they had come.

"Stop! All of you, stop for me! Anyone who dares to flee further will be killed without mercy!"

A winged tiger bit off the head of a demon scorpion, howling to the sky. This tiger's cultivation was at the level of a Demon Emperor, one of the few high-ranking, top-tier demonic beasts in the tide, second only to the Heavenly Demon Dragon on the Demon Beast Continent. Seeing the other demonic beasts scatter, the tiger grew furious, launched an attack on a Demon Lord-level scorpion, and killed it with one bite.

The other few Demon Emperor-level beasts followed suit, attacking the fleeing demonic beasts to make an example of them. Under the tyrannical influence of these few Demon Emperors, the almost dispersed beast tide stabilized once more, regaining courage and renewing their attack on the Six-Eared Macaque and his two companions.

"Heh! Looks like we really need to capture the king first to snag the thieves!"

The Six-Eared Macaque's mouth twitched upward as he swung his Heaven-supporting Iron Staff to sweep aside several attacking demonic beasts, charging straight towards the tiger. The iron staff slammed heavily into the air above the ground, instantly creating ripples visible to the naked eye that knocked the surrounding beasts head over heels. In a matter of moments, he cleared a space in the air, leaving only himself and the tiger floating in midair within a few square miles. The other demonic beasts could only roar skywards towards Sun Wukong from a distance, not daring to step a half-step into the area.

Didn't they see their companions in the vicinity pulverized into dust by the aftershock of that force? Charging in now would be akin to seeking death—it was a fool's errand!

"Flying Bear! Let me face you!"

The tiger with wings on its ribs was known as the Flying Bear in the Three Realms, an ancient exotic beast. To the Six-Eared Macaque, this winged tiger was just another beast that had grown up in the Demon Beast Continent, not much different from the ancient exotic Flying Bears of the Three Realms.

As it happened, the Six-Eared Macaque had reasons for singling out this Flying Bear demonic beast as his opponent.

During the Divine Enthronement War of the West Zhou, the real identity of Prime Minister Jiang Ziya was the Flying Bear, originally a disciple of the Guiding Daoist. To give the Western Cult an advantage in the second Infinite Calamity, the Guiding Daoist and the Primordial Heavenly Venerable reached an agreement to send the Flying Bear into reincarnation as Jiang Ziya, to study the Dao under the Primordial Heavenly Venerable. Later, inside the Nuwa Temple, he used evil arts to muddle King Zhou's mind with lewd poetry, angering Goddess Nuwa, which led to the Divine Enthronement War between Shang and Zhou.

After the war, Jiang Ziya pinned all the blame on Su Daji of the Nine-Tailed Fox Tribe, Leng Xuan's mother, causing her to bear infamy for life and ultimately leading to the tragic deaths of both her and Leng Xuan's father. This sorrowful past and deep-seated resentment was ever present in Leng Xuan's heart, no secret among those on Flower-Fruit Mountain, where many were aware of it.

In the long time after the Six-Eared Macaque joined Flower-Fruit Mountain, other than the young fox demon Sun Xiaoqing, Leng Xuan was the most caring toward him. When Wukong became wary of him, it was Leng Xuan who explained things to him, offered him counsel, and even persuaded Wukong to teach him the Eight-Nine Profound Skill, Somersault Cloud, and The Way of Transformation. Leng Xuan used his own points to exchange for the archives inside the Heaven-Piercing Tower for the Six-Eared Macaque to study. It could be said that Leng Xuan played an integral part in his achievements today!

This time, it was payback for Leng Xuan, even if just a little interest first. Too bad for this guy, being a Flying Bear just like Jiang Ziya! Bad luck for him!
