Rebirth in Blood: The Sun of Sin

Chapter 15: The Doomsday Base Vehicle

"The Doomsday Base Vehicle (Upgradeable): Length: 10 meters - Width: 5 meters - Height: 5 meters."

"This base vehicle has two forms, which can be switched freely."

"Note: Switching forms consumes a large amount of spiritual energy. Choose deployment locations carefully to avoid wasting spiritual energy."

"1: Safe Zone Form - When the base vehicle is deployed, it transforms into a full-metal mobile fortress occupying 100 square meters. It can resist light weapons (assault rifles, handguns, melee weapons). After taking damage, it slowly repairs itself using spiritual energy. Once deployed as a Safe Zone, it automatically absorbs spiritual energy."

"2: Armed Transport Form - When the base vehicle retracts, it transforms into a heavy-duty truck. Maximum capacity: 10 people. Maximum speed: 200 km/h. Defense in driving mode is reduced by 50%, and it continuously consumes spiritual energy."

"Doomsday Base Building: ??? Not unlocked."

A base vehicle!?

A vehicle that can deploy a Safe Zone and absorb spiritual energy!

Lin An snapped back to reality, his heart racing with excitement.

On the holographic screen, a black, high-tech armored truck slowly rotated, with weapon mounting positions visible, though no weapons were present.

At the bottom of the screen, a three-dimensional rendering of a metallic structure, similar to a factory building, was shown. It appeared to be made from sealed alloy steel plates, giving it a solid sense of security.

His heart raced wildly.

After being reborn, Lin An rarely experienced emotional fluctuations, but seeing the Doomsday Base Vehicle made him uncontrollably excited.

A year after the apocalypse game began in his previous life, the world was divided into four major regions and thirty-six battle zones. Survivors and players from various countries formed alliances, living in safe zones controlled by different factions.

Safe Zones were the foundation of survival for players!

In the apocalypse game, Safe Zones weren't just areas for fending off zombies. The Safe Zone Lin An had planned to build was merely a shelter. He never imagined it could absorb spiritual energy from the start.

The true Safe Zone could enhance the strength of players and awakened ones.

After the apocalypse, not only did large-scale zombie outbreaks occur, but the Earth was also gradually contaminated by a type of energy pollution, known as spiritual energy.

Under the influence of spiritual energy, animals and plants mutated into powerful monsters or rare treasures. Players could absorb spiritual energy to gradually enhance their physical strength, albeit very slowly, but safely.

If an awakened one couldn't defeat mutated zombies when their strength was weak, the best approach was to absorb spiritual energy and level up before forming teams to hunt zombies.

Spiritual energy could only be absorbed through Safe Zones, which extracted the energy from the air.

However, establishing a Safe Zone required rare and special items known as "Safe Tokens," which could only be obtained through high-difficulty tasks assigned by the system. These tasks were time-consuming, requiring hundreds of awakened ones or large teams to complete.

In his previous life, many small Safe Zones were actually branches of mid-sized Safe Zones.

But now, a mobile base vehicle that could deploy a Safe Zone and absorb spiritual energy was far more valuable than a Safe Token.

Lin An felt a surge of excitement, his steps quickening. Behind him, Wen Ya gritted her teeth and struggled to keep up.

"Wait... wait for me..."

The cold wind howled, and Wen Ya almost lost her balance from the chill.

Lin An turned back, realizing she had already fallen nearly a hundred meters behind.

...

Waiting for Wen Ya to catch up, Lin An suppressed his excitement, quickly adjusting his mindset.

Although he wanted to claim the team task reward immediately, the most urgent matter was still to strengthen himself and defeat the "Sewer" to rescue An Jingtian and An Xia.

These two were the only people Lin An truly cared about and could trust at the moment.

An Jingtian, a former scout, had better basic stats than ordinary people. If he could become awakened, he would be a great asset.

Although the team task was simple, Lin An didn't plan to recruit just anyone.

The team function had a limit on the number of members, and though this would increase with upgrades, once a member was added, their strength would be boosted, and they couldn't be swapped out.

Thus, Lin An had to be very selective.

An Jingtian, An Xia, Wen Ya.

He still needed two more.

Lin An's gaze drifted thoughtfully as he quickly searched his memory for candidates.

The Four Emperors and Six Kings.

In his past life, there were 10 unparalleled experts in the China Battle Zone. Four of them were fourth-tier awakened ones, known as the "Emperors," each leading over a billion people. Six were third-tier awakened ones, called the "Kings," leading millions.

In Lin An's city, there was one third-tier "King" who was still weak at the moment. If he could recruit him early, it would greatly help Lin An build his power in the future.

"By the way... I still don't know your name."

"How should I address you?"

Wen Ya, running to catch up, asked, trying not to waste Lin An's time.

"Lin An."

"Anything's fine."

Lin An didn't care about titles; he wasn't interested in having followers call him "master" like some awakened ones who would recruit minions or even slaves in his past life.

"Then I'll call you Lin An... or Captain."

"You should be around my age?"

"I'm 24, just graduated from university this year."

Lin An glanced at Wen Ya when he heard this. He was also 24, so they were indeed the same age.

"Sure."

Wen Ya was gradually getting used to Lin An's cold demeanor and continued asking, "You still haven't told me why you want me to join your team. Also, you seem different from us..."

Wen Ya recalled Lin An's impressive strength, feeling a bit curious.

"I asked Li Zhiping before; he and I both started as players."

"My power is 3, his is 4."

"How much do you have?"

Lin An nodded and thought for a moment before deciding not to hide anything.

"First, I want you to join because you're a Mutant."

"Mutants can provide me with mental power, which enhances my strength."

"People like you are rare, and once others discover you're a Mutant, they'll fight to recruit you."

"So, don't let anyone know you're a Mutant."

"Second, I'm an Awakened one. Unlike regular players, I have another set of stats in addition to the player template. My strength is about..."

"Five times yours!"

Wen Ya was shocked.

Five times?

Doesn't that make him superhuman?

"Third, my strength is 12."

"Uh, actually, 14.4."

Lin An momentarily forgot that his total attributes were increased by 20% due to the team function.

"14?!"

Wen Ya gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief.

14 points of strength. No wonder Lin An could smash a zombie's skull with one punch.

Lin An wasn't bothered by her surprise. If Wen Ya knew that after surpassing 10 points of strength, every additional point would result in a 30% increase, she'd be even more astonished.

"Your attributes should also have some bonus; that's one of the benefits of joining my team. You can check it out later."

Wen Ya eagerly opened her player panel, her face full of joy.

But when she saw an entry (Rescue Squad Member) on her panel, she froze for a moment.

"Rescue Squad?"

Wen Ya was puzzled. The name had some special significance.

However, Lin An didn't offer an explanation, and she didn't dare to ask.

Lin An's already mysterious image became even more enigmatic in her eyes.

Had she unknowingly encountered an extraordinary person?

"Get in the car."

Lin An said flatly without turning around.

Wen Ya snapped out of her thoughts and obediently followed him.

Lin An turned and mounted his motorcycle.

Wen Ya, eyes glistening, quickly climbed onto the back seat.

"Vroom!"

The engine roared, and the bike shook slightly.

Amid Wen Ya's surprised shout, the motorcycle sped off.

At high speed, the icy wind forced her to wrap her arms around Lin An's waist.

Warmth, security.

After a day and night without rest, and with her mind tense, Wen Ya felt an inexplicable sense of peace as she held onto Lin An.

The motorcycle, like a black phantom, traced a dark line on the highway.

After a while, exhaustion overwhelmed her, and she couldn't keep her eyes open any longer.

Subconsciously, she tightened her grip.

Lin An noticed Wen Ya had fallen asleep and slightly slowed down.

...

At the far end of the road into the city, a massive horde of zombies gathered.

Thousands of cars had crashed into each other, the ground littered with broken bodies and debris.

In the center of the road, atop a mountain of corpses, a boy crouched, idly playing with a severed arm, as if searching for something.

After finding nothing, he casually threw the arm away and resumed digging through the corpse pile.

"No."

"Yes."

"This."

"One."

His childish voice stumbled.

Nearby, the zombie horde circled the corpse mountain but didn't dare approach.

A clear space surrounded the boy.

The zombies, though relentless, seemed to fear the harmless-looking boy at the top of the mountain.

"Clang."

A zombie at the edge of the group lost balance and crashed into the clear space.

It stumbled and triggered a piece of metal.

The boy suddenly looked up, his eyes bloodshot.

"Roar!"

An invisible shockwave erupted from his mouth, instantly crushing the zombie.

The horde panicked.

Without reason, the zombies seemed to display strange emotions under the boy's intimidation.

If Lin An were here, he would recognize this as the instinctual fear response of zombies when facing mutated beings with power exceeding level three!

"Also."

"No."

"Yes!"

Anger, madness... The emotions manifested as shockwaves that swept across the surrounding zombies and crashed cars, turning them to dust.

The boy finally stopped searching and stood up straight.

A black fragment pierced his chest.

There was no wind, but he slowly floated into the air, like a puppet pulled by invisible strings.

The boy's stiff head turned to survey his surroundings.

After a moment, he shifted direction.

The remaining zombies followed his lead.

The horde surged forward.
