Chapter 13: The Mysterious Mark
Lin An's sharp eyes noticed that Wen Ya was about to be dragged off the roof of the RV by a zombie.
He couldn't help but frown.
If Wen Ya were just an ordinary person, he wouldn't care.
But as a suspected mutant, it would be a shame if she died.
Of course, that was only if she could be of use to him.
"Power burst!" Lin An muttered under his breath.
A flash of faint golden light flickered around him, and a surge of power erupted under the strange, pulsating energy.
After activating his talent, his speed increased dramatically. His form blurred like a shadow, sprinting along the highway.
In just a few seconds, he had crossed a distance of over 100 meters, closing in on the RV.
Wen Ya was already being torn down by the zombie, half of her body hanging off the roof.
Lin An's gaze turned cold.
He exerted his strength, and his Nepalese curved blade flew out of his hand with precision.
The blade sliced through the air like a whistle and, guided by Lin An's immense strength, neatly cut off the long hair that the zombie had been pulling.
"Ha!"
The blade plunged into the side of the RV, embedding halfway into the metal.
The force was so powerful that it lifted the RV's body as if a hand had smacked it.
Fist strike!
Lin An's expression remained unchanged as he threw another punch.
The air split with a loud whoosh, and his fist easily pierced the skull of the nearest zombie.
"Bang!"
It was as if a water balloon had burst.
Brain matter and blood splattered in all directions.
Before the other zombies could react, Lin An, with his power burst activated and a strength of 14, easily crushed the remaining zombies' skulls.
In just two seconds, the zombie horde that would have been a death sentence for an ordinary person was effortlessly wiped out by Lin An.
After confirming all the zombies were dead, Lin An casually wiped the blood off his hand, then calmly glanced at Wen Ya, who was still lying on the RV's roof.
Wen Ya was still in shock.
Her hair was a mess, and her chest was rising and falling rapidly.
She had just narrowly escaped death and was drenched in sweat.
Her fitted, well-crafted top clung to her body, revealing her stunning figure.
Her wide, astonished eyes were fixed on Lin An, mouth agape, struggling to find her voice.
So powerful!
The scene in front of her felt like a dream, too unbelievable to comprehend.
A single punch to shatter a skull...
Brutal and decisive.
She had no doubt that if that punch had landed on an ordinary person, they would have turned to dust.
"You are... just now..."
Wen Ya was tense.
After a moment of scrutiny, she recognized Lin An.
The roaring black motorcycle left a strong impression on her.
Lin An, dressed in black combat gear, with a tall and strong figure, boots on his feet, appeared cold and indifferent.
Killing four zombies was easy for Lin An.
Other than a few bloodstains on his right hand, his clothes were immaculate.
Lin An didn't respond.
He simply scanned Wen Ya's body with an intense, uncaring gaze, as though she were a finely crafted art piece.
This was his first time encountering a so-called mutant.
Although, in some ways, he was one too.
Nothing special.
Lin An's eyes roamed over Wen Ya.
Other than her being more composed than the average person, she wasn't much different from anyone else.
Lin An remained silent, and Wen Ya didn't dare speak either.
Half-laying on the roof of the RV, she bit her lip tightly, not daring to move a muscle.
Even though her mental fortitude was far stronger than an ordinary person's, anyone who had witnessed Lin An's brutal efficiency, and the skulls shattered all around, would be too frightened to speak.
Though Lin An had saved her, she didn't dare to let her guard down.
Despite the fact that Lin An's gaze seemed clear, without any lustful intent, it still filled her with an inexplicable sense of fear.
In Lin An's eyes, she could see no desire. It was as though she was nothing more than an object to him.
"Take off your clothes."
Lin An's voice was cold, and without hesitation, he gave a command.
He had carefully observed Wen Ya earlier, and there was no outward sign that she was a mutant.
Since that was the case, he decided to use a method from his previous life.
In the memories of his past life, there was a specific way to verify if someone was a mutant.
Before the apocalypse, mutants seemed like ordinary people.
But once they were "loaded" with a player template, their bodies began to develop purple marks under the influence of the system's power.
It was like a curse.
These marks were different from tattoos, and even if there weren't any clear images of them on mutants, anyone who had seen them could identify them with certainty.
Only mutants could possess such markings.
Lin An's words were soft, yet in Wen Ya's ears, they struck like thunder.
Her body trembled at the sound of his words.
She bit her lip, her face drained of color.
Sure enough...
She forced a bitter smile, helplessly clutching the corner of her clothes, unwilling to take them off.
"Ha."
Lin An impatiently stepped forward and effortlessly removed his Nepalese curved blade from the RV's side.
His eyes grew colder.
He had guessed Wen Ya's hesitation, but he didn't plan to explain anything.
He had no patience, nor any obligation to explain.
Wen Ya's gaze lingered on the bloodstained blade, and it was as though her heart had died.
Lin An's terrifying strength left her no desire to resist.
Moreover, if Lin An hadn't intervened, she would have already been a pile of bones on the ground.
"Rustle."
She silently removed her top, then lifted her head to meet Lin An's gaze.
Her bare skin was as smooth and white as polished milk.
The two locked eyes, Wen Ya's gaze determined, yet resolute.
Lin An didn't care about the details.
His attention was entirely on the mysterious pattern on Wen Ya's flat stomach, his eyes filled with obsession.
The dark purple markings on her smooth abdomen shimmered, the faint blood color flashing between the lines.
The patterns were enigmatic, chilling to the soul.
At a glance, it was as though one's very soul could be sucked into them.
Lin An couldn't help but reach out, his fingertips lightly brushing over the markings.
Her delicate, silky skin felt like satin.
Each time the faint blood color flashed across the markings, a subtle psychic energy surged into Lin An's body.
Lin An already had incredibly strong psychic power, but after absorbing this energy, he could faintly feel an enhancement.
So this is the unique pattern of mutants?
Lin An couldn't help but marvel internally.
Just a simple touch, and it had the effect of boosting his psychic power.
Unique, and clearly noticeable.
With markings like these...
No wonder the players in his past life, who hunted mutants, could easily spot them among ordinary people.
While Wen Ya was lost in her thoughts, Lin An's mind was already racing with possibilities.
Now that he had confirmed Wen Ya was indeed a mutant, his heart surged with excitement.
At first, he had doubts about defeating the "Suturer."
Even though he knew there were many treasures and spiritual foods hidden around that could boost his strength, it was unlikely he could gather them all in time.
With his current power as a first-tier awakener, fighting against second-tier, top-tier mutated zombies was still too much of a stretch.
But with Wen Ya's help during battle, her psychic energy could supplement his own, and in the frequent use of his awakening skills, it would certainly give him a much better chance.
Before Lin An could speak, Wen Ya, as if sensing something, followed his gaze down to her abdomen.
Her mouth parted slightly.
She stared at the patterns on her body, her eyes filled with confusion.
"What is this?"
Wen Ya thought for a moment, and with her already powerful psychic abilities, she quickly realized.
She had never gotten a tattoo.
Moreover, the markings on her body occasionally flashed with a strange, fleeting blood color.
She remembered how Lin An had ignored her at first, only to save her in the nick of time, and now he seemed so interested in these markings.
This meant that what really caught his attention wasn't her body, but the markings themselves.
Realizing she had misunderstood Lin An's intentions, Wen Ya felt a pang of guilt.
She had thought Lin An was just another man who was after her body.
