Rebirth Counterattack: I Heard That the Imperial Marshal Has a Crush on Me

Chapter 10

Unexpectedly, he saw this person here. Chu Muxi was stunned for a moment, but he quickly composed himself, pretending as though nothing had happened and found a seat.

As the airship took off, Chu Muxi discreetly glanced at the other passenger, Lu Junzhi, who was dozing with his eyes closed.

Why was he here?

Did he come to pick me up in person?

What could be the reason for his presence?

Chu Muxi’s mind was in turmoil, and he felt anxious.

In the past life, their relationship was about to undergo significant changes by the end of the month. Sadly, he had passed away before accepting these changes.

In this life, as Chu Muxi gazed at the man who was considered perfect by many, he furrowed his brow. While the other person’s wealth and background could be advantageous, he no longer dwelled on it after being reborn. The initial excitement he felt upon learning of the outcome was outweighed by the risks to his life.

Let it be. There were probably others who were even less content with the situation.

The First Marshal of the empire and a worthless young master?

Upon reflection, he felt undeserving.

Having made up his mind, Chu Muxi ceased looking at Lu Junzhi, reclined in his chair, and closed his eyes for a nap.

Unbeknownst to him, as soon as he closed his eyes, Lu Junzhi opened his.

After observing the other passenger with an indifferent expression, Lu Junzhi’s gaze settled on Chu Muxi’s long, curled eyelashes. They fluttered slightly, resembling colorful butterfly wings in the sunlight.

Unintentionally, Lu Junzhi gazed a bit longer and was caught when Chu Muxi suddenly opened his eyes.

Chu Muxi had semsed the lingering gaze and was feeling nervous. He clenched his hands on his knees to conceal his anxiety.

Is he looking at me? Why is he watching me?

Why doesn’t he look away? Chu Muxi cursed inwardly and finally couldn’t resist opening his eyes.

“…You,” his voice caught in his throat, leaving him momentarily at a loss for words.

Surprisingly, Lu Junzhi wasn’t embarrassed about being caught. He nodded calmly, “I’m Lu Junzhi.”

“I know.”

Chu Muxi swallowed and forced a smile. “Thank you for safeguarding my grandfather during the entire journey back to the Central Star. I appreciate you coming to meet me.”

Lu Junzhi responded with a simple, “You’re welcome,” as he lived up to his reputation of being reserved.

Nonetheless, Chu Muxi didn’t sense any condescension or intimidation from him. Instead, he found the man, despite his stoic exterior, surprisingly easy to interact with.

“Thank you so much.” Chu Muxi expressed his gratitude, recognizing that without Lu Junzhi’s help, his grandfather wouldn’t have returned to the Central Star so swiftly and wouldn’t have been able to elude He Hui’s tails to meet Shen Wu privately.

Lu Junzhi remained silent, folding his hands across his chest and sitting up straight.

Chu Muxi observed him closely and noticed a faint weariness creasing his brow, barely discernible unless one looked closely.

It wasn’t easy for a person like him to bear the title of the Empire’s First Marshal.

The airship continued until it descended in a villa. As Chu Muxi disembarked, he recognized the location. It was the central island situated in the heart of the Central Star, home to influential figures.

Most notably, the central island housed the imperial palace, covering thousands of hectares at its center.

The area surrounding the palace, from inner to outer circles, was where princes and nobles resided.

The Lu family, an ancient lineage, had strong ties to the current emperor through Lu Junzhi’s mother, Nafu, who was the emperor’s sister and an imperial princess. By the empire’s laws, in addition to being the eldest son of the Lu family and the Empire’s marshal, Lu Junzhi was granted the title of earl by his uncle, the reigning Emperor, upon his birth.

Presently, they were in the courtyard of a villa within the Lu Family estate on Central Island.

“Is it permissible to bring me here?” Chu Muxi inquired cautiously. Not even the Chu family, let alone his grandfather’s Shen family, had access to Central Island.

Lu Junzhi strode forward with measured steps and responded calmly, “It’s a separate courtyard.”

Chu Muxi acknowledged with an “oh” and followed him inside.

Upon entering the villa, he immediately spotted an elderly man seated on the sofa, eagerly waiting. It was Shen Wu.

“Grandpa!” Chu Muxi paid no attention to anything else and hurried toward the old man. “Grandpa! I’ve missed you so much!” Tears welled up in his eyes.

Since Shen Lan’s passing, Shen Wu had not spent quality time alone with his grandson for quite some time. For some reason, Chu Tianhao seemed to have provoked Chu Muxi, causing him to become distant and even appear to harbor some resentment.

It was heartbreaking, as Shen Wu’s only remaining family was his grandson.

Despite his disdain for Chu Tianhao, Shen Wu had invested all his hopes in Chu Muxi. Recent years had been painful due to Chu Muxi’s aloofness.

Unexpectedly, circumstances had changed, and Xiao Xi had taken the initiative to reconcile.

“Xiao Xi, let grandpa have a good look at you.” Shen Wu placed his hands on Chu Muxi’s shoulders and gazed at his grandson, who bore a striking resemblance to his own daughter. Chu Muxi was undeniably attractive, with rosy lips and pearly white teeth.

As a child, he resembled a little angel, and as he grew older, his appearance continued to captivate many. “That’s goos, you look more and more like your mother.” Shen Wu raised a hand to tousle his hair.

Chu Muxi obediently tilted his head up and said, “Grandpa, I’ve missed you so much.”

Shen Wu responded, “Grandpa has missed you too.”

Chu Muxi sniffled, feeling awkward but also earnest and resolute. He said to Shen Wu, “Grandpa, I’m sorry. I was such a brat before, misunderstood you for so long, and made you sad.”

“It’s alright. As long as you’re well, grandpa has no other wishes.” There was anger and sadness, but all he wanted was for Chu Muxi to lead a happy life. Now that he saw his child thriving and so understanding, even without an apology, Shen Wu was already content. “Alright, my boy, please don’t cry. Grandpa doesn’t blame you. Grandpa always wished for your well-being.” Shen Wu affectionately ruffled his hair.

Chu Muxi sniffed heavily and wiped away his tears, slightly embarrassed. “I won’t cry, grandpa. Seeing you makes me feel happy.”

He then remembered that he and his grandpa weren’t the only ones in the room. He turned around and noticed that Lu Junzhi had left.

Shen Wu explained, “Xiao Lu just brought you here and stepped out. He probably wanted to give us, grandfather and grandson, some private time to talk.”

Chu Muxi commented, “He’s quite considerate.”

Shen Wu smiled and added, “Yes, even though this kid always appears distant, he’s actually a very nice person.”

Chu Muxi’s heart stirred as he thought about what was about to transpire.
