Chapter 6: We are not longer weak!
Adonis stood in the empty garden. In front of him were rocks, each having a name written on it.
These rocks were meant to represent the dead bodies of their former party members.
Since they were unable to get their bodies, Adonis decided to use those rocks, carrying only the memories he had of them.
For almost an hour, Adonis had stood there, watching the stones as if they were moving.
Eri, who was fully dressed, stayed behind, waiting for him to finish.
Even though she was not close to them, she knew Adonis cared deeply for every single one of his party members, regardless of who they were.
He needed to give them a meaningful goodbye.
"And I know I wasn't much of a leader, at least not yet. But I vow before your very souls, I, Adonis Wilson, will take our party too far up and be unstoppable. This, I promise you. Your deaths were not in vain."
He vowed before their resting place.
In this world, parties were considered a huge part of society, similar to how clans worked.
Every party had a unique signature that set them apart from the rest.
The stronger your party, the more famous and respected you become.
Once a party gets too strong—typically from A-S rank parties—they are no longer under the Guild. Instead, they work alongside the Guild organization.
Parties like these would be considered a Private Guild, a group of organizations doing things by themselves for themselves, without the help or influence of the Guild organization.
This was Adonis's goal—to be one of the top guilds in the kingdom, free from the Guild organization itself.
With a bow of his head, he hardened his heart, knowing what he had to do to accomplish it.
Turning around, Filo was still waiting for him.
"You could have gone ahead without me, you know that, right?" he said as he walked toward her.
Filo smiled. "And leave my leader behind? I think not."
"Leader? It's not much of a party with just the two of us. We'll have to start recruiting people first," Adonis said as he walked.
"Eh? Like right now?" Filo tried to catch up.
"I wish that were possible. Right now, we are only an F-rank party. The Guild won't let us recruit anyone else until we climb the ranks."
Filo placed her hand on her cheek. "But I am an A-rank. Shouldn't that amount to something?" she asked.
"Not officially. You only know you're an A-rank. No one else does, so unless we take you for revelation, you are still an F-rank Fighter."
Adonis stopped, an idea popping into his head.
'In the novel, I remember key characters that only later came out as being strong towards the third volume of the book. Right now, most of them are nothing but rookie adventurers. If I recruit them first... it would be like me building an entire army of overpowered characters... it's genius!'
He suddenly looked at Filo, placing his hand on her shoulder. "Filo!" he called out.
"H-hia...aaa!" Filo replied nervously.
"I am going to make you stronger—strong enough to win against anyone you raise your blade to. For that, I need you to tell me right now: Do you love me?! Even a little bit?!" he asked.
Thankfully, no one was around, or Filo would have died of embarrassment.
Her cheeks were bright red, her eyes spinning in circles.
"W-haaattt?" she moaned.
"You need to give me an answer. If you don't, then I won't be able to continue on with my plan. You and I, we've stayed too long at the bottom of the barrel. I have the power to change that. Filo, do you love me?!" he asked again.
Of course, Adonis knew the answer to that—he had read the novel before.
Filo loved him with all her heart, which was why she wasn't hesitant to die for him in the novel.
That said, this was the only way Adonis knew to increase their relationship.
If she were to admit to loving him, he knew it would be a drastic jump.
Filo was quiet for a while, her fingers twirling her hair as she looked to the side. "Y-you meanie, asking me a question like that out of nowhere..."
She then looked him in the eye, her entire cheeks flushed as she replied...
"I do love you. With all my heart. But I couldn't tell you because you were always hanging out with the rest. And I was... eh..."
"Shy?"
"Noooo!" she screamed.
Adonis laughed, holding her hand as she attempted to gently tap his chest.
It was then the notification Adonis had been waiting for appeared.
[Filo's relationship level has increased to 100%.]
[You can now upgrade her to Rank S.]
(Note: After Rank S, a character's growth will be dependent on their own personal hard work.)
A smile formed on Adonis's face. 'Bingo, it worked. Nothing boosts a relationship like a good confession.'
Once a character increased in rank, it was said they would instinctively know their rank and even every ability they had gained and would gain.
As such, Adonis knew that if he were to upgrade Filo, she would instantly be far stronger than him.
The strongest in Dancing Corpse.
"Upgrade!" Adonis said out loud, a smile on his face as he looked at Filo, who also stared back at him.
"From this moment onward, you are now an S-rank fighter. With this power, you will become my strength where I lack—my protective shadow—for I am the only one who can raise you to this height..."
As she listened to those words, Filo felt her body strengthening in every area she lacked. Her magic energy overflowed, her heart raced, and her eyes widened in amazement.
It was the birth of an S-rank.
The S-rank was a rare rank—so rare that in a guild of over 50 people, only four could have attained the S-rank.
"You are no longer weak because I say so," Adonis spoke with his hand close to his chest and a grin on his face, "We are no longer far."
