Chapter 5: The Adjustment
After he had talked with Ozpin, Reaper had a lot of work ahead of him. First, he wanted to learn about this world, so he at least knew what to expect from this planet. One of the first things he did was visit the library of Beacon Academy and looked through all the history books. He learned everything he could about Remnant from its Great War to now. It took him a considerable amount of time, but he absorbed the information quickly. He was given a place to stay in Beacon Academy thanks to Ozpin. The headmaster gave him one of the Staff Dorms to use for his time in Vale. But Reaper knew this was so Ozpin could keep an eye on him. He didn't care to be honest. As long as he gains an ally, he's okay with it. He's used to not being trusted. He was always under the heel of Doomfist back in Talon and he hated it but kept that secret.
Reaper learned a great many things about Remnant including the creatures of Grimm. The Grimm are creatures of darkness that Humanity has been fighting for countless years. There are many Grimm types from Beowolves to Goliath. He did as much research as he could about the Grimm as he knew that he'll be facing them a lot more from now on. Turns out, Grimm turn to mist or ash when they die. He then remembers that beast he killed when he first woke up in Remnant. That must've been a Grimm. He also learns about Dust. At first, he thought it was normal dust but turns out Dust is a type of crystal that allows Humanity to harness the elements. It acts as a source of clean energy for the planet but isn't space capable. Which means Remnant hasn't been to space.
Not that Reaper cared. He then learned about the planet's technology which didn't really impress him. Sure, they had Airships and some Robots, but nothing impressive. Dust was a marvel, but he isn't the science type. The Kingdom of Atlas seems to be the most advanced kingdom on the planet and has the strongest military. The Atlas Military has its forces mostly stationed in Atlas but does have a Military base in Mistral. The other kingdoms of Remnant are Vacuo and Mistral. From what Reaper could gather, Vacuo is a lawless land with only Huntsmen and Huntresses acting as law enforcement but then again, even they can be lawless. Mistral is the largest Kingdom due to its territory. Vale is special because of Beacon Academy.
Beacon Academy is one of 4 Academies created to teach people how to become Huntsmen and Huntresses. Huntsmen and Huntresses are people who harness something called Aura and Semblance to fight back against the Grimm. The concept of Aura did spark interest in Reaper as he immediately began looking for weaknesses. He can guarantee he'll fight Huntsmen down the line, so he wants to develop strategies to better fight them. He did some digging and discovered who the other headmasters of the other academies are. Leonardo Lionheart, Theodore and James Ironwood. Interestingly, Ironwood was also a General for the Atlas Military meaning he's one busy man. Reaper does not feel envy for him at all.
After he did all his research he decided to see where he was staying. Once he arrived at the Staff Dorms, he found the room he was given and went inside. The room was fairly big and had all the necessary necessities. But the first thing he did was check for any potential exits to use in case he needs to bail. Once he was done, he decided to sit down on the bed and think about his next move. Ozpin mentioned he would get a chance to earn his trust through some kind of test. He didn't know what kind of test that was, but he was preparing for it. His guest was either a school like test or a combat test. He's betting on the combat test as most likely to happen.
Reaper decided to get some fresh air as he doesn't know how long he'll be waiting for this test. So, he got up and went out the door. Once he gets outside, he decides to go for a walk around the Academy and before he knew it, he found himself walking down one of the many halls. Some students that were present spared him a few glances and all he could see was fear and the looks of people who are intimidated. He's seen these glances many times and is unaffected by them. So, he just walks down the hall before he runs into someone. Well, he doesn't actually bump into them as he stopped before he did. The person he nearly bumped into stops as well.
Reaper gets a look at the person he nearly bumped into. It's a woman has very light-blonde hair tied back in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face. Her eyes are bright green, and she wears thin ovular glasses. She has dangling teal earrings that match the hanging pendant on her collar. She wears a white long-sleeved, pleated blouse that has a wide keyhole neckline and gauntlet cuffs that flare in pleats at the wrist. Her lower body is covered by a black high-waisted pencil skirt with bronze buttons and black fading into brown stockings. She wears black boots with bronze heels and a cape that is purple inside and black on the outside. The cut of the cape is stylized to end in flames and arrows, with a row of diamond-shaped bronze beads on the back.
"Oh, sorry. Guess I wasn't paying attention." the woman said.
The woman then gets a better look at the man standing before her. She flinched a little seeing his mask and intimidating appearance. Reaper didn't say or do anything as he waited for her to snap out of her daze. The woman eventually comes to her senses and snaps out of it.
"Are you new? I haven't seen you around Beacon Academy before." The woman asks.
"You could say I'm new." Reaper said.
"Does the headmaster know your here?" She asks.
"Ask him yourself." Reaper said, bluntly.
"Very well. I was on my way to his office anyway." The woman said. "Oh, where are my manners."
The woman held her hand forward.
"My name is Glynda Goodwitch." the woman, now named Glynda, introduced.
"Reaper." Is all Reaper says to Glynda.
"Just Reaper? An odd name." Glynda comments.
"It's all your getting." Reaper said in a tone that said this conversation was over.
With that, Reaper walks around Glynda and heads down the hall. Glynda turns her head and watches him walk away, thinking he was a bit rude.
