Reality Quest: Threshold System

Chapter 4: 4our - Rogue is ASSassing

I'm writing this while on Online Class. No academic comeback for me I guess...

...

...

The Rogue, in my humble opinion, is the best suited for me.

From the description, this class could both fight in short and long range with the throwing daggers. But, I assume there will be some sort of downside to this class, for example… While it could utilize all ranges, I don't think it will excel in both of them. It cannot fight well in Melee like the warrior, it couldn't pressure with range as well as the Arcanist. I think, this class is basically a jack of all trades master of none type of archetype.

It survives with the superficial knowledge of differing classes, but not really going deeper than that.

However, the main reason I pick this is the passive and the active skill. The Passive is a spidey sense basically, and the active skill turns invincible. Where I'm going with this, is that I don't have to fight head-on really. Sure I could do that, but the margin of failure is smaller than that of the Warrior, not as the same with the Arcanist.

I need to think long term here. Both classes rely on a team, while the Rogue better fit the lone-wolf kinda player, which, while cringe, I am right now. I don't have anyone, and I won't meet any time soon. This world is new, and I don't think of a world beyond this cave. This could very well be a Dungeon-Rogue game, where the whole system revolves around a dungeon. That's still proven, for god's sake, this is my first time here.

But, when dealing with the uncertain, that's when assuming becomes a tool. Because, that's the only thing you know about what lays ahead.

And, being real here for a moment, I don't really like mages.

"Rogue."

[Class Chosen. Beginning Calibration!]

A sudden pulse rippled across my body. While I don't see any physical changes, my perception contorts and becomes loud. I could hear small rocks falling from the roof of this cave, I could feel slight vibrations on the ground, and what little air there felt sharp in my ears and skin. My perception has increased!

My hand suddenly became heavy.

"... huh?"

Glancing down, the kitchen knife that I've been holding now became colored black. The blade got bigger width and length, but the thickness got smaller. Bringing it up for closer inspection, I bop my finger on the edge and retracted with the sudden sharp pain. The tip is bleeding…

"Sharp… So, it changed my weapon, eh?"

This changes things actually. I now have a competent weapon. The smile on my face became brighter than it ever was, and the darkness of this place seems to be more welcoming than its initial hostility.

"With this, " I brought my dagger, "... You're not very scary anymore…"

The walls themselves pulsate in cold blue.

The same disgusting liquidy noise reverberated, and with my increased hearing, the sound of light-footsteps swiftly marched towards me.

From the sound, there's a lot of skittering feet.

My eyes twitch.

"And, I jinx it."

The dungeon senses another intruder. Foolish mortal back at it, again. Chasing their own demise here.

The dungeon finds them feeble, and pitiable. Consumed by their own desire of grandeur. They belittle the prospect of dying here, underestimating it.

The dungeon doesn't hate the mortals, no, no. Do you hate the arrow that pierces you, and not the Archer? No, the Dungeon hates what they carry, what inhabits their souls.

The dungeon despise ichor.

The blood of those accursed, prideful, beings that shackle it with the heavy tower – that pierce their wretched home.

But this one doesn't carry their blood.

Well, it doesn't even seem the gods have touched this one.

At school.

"Boo."

"AHH!"

Beom jumped in surprise, having a grimacing face and I could see a little snot in his nose. His reaction made me smile in amusement, if only this guy worked out and cut his ties with one of the Bully Council's members.

"Morning, Fatso."

"How did you do that?!" Beom ignored my greeting, pointing his finger while returning to his seat.

"Do what?"

"That, "He snapped, " How did you even sneak without a noise?"

Hmph, I guess it's still working, even though it's been dampened when I returned.

I shook my head, and returned to my seat. Looking around my classroom is not that noteworthy, it looks like any other room of this school. Boring and mundane, the only thing that differentiate it, is the students. I think manhwas are the 2.0 of manga, when it impossibly colored hairs. Sure some of them, like fatso over there: jeez get over already, dyed their hair. But, a majority is natural.

Well, I don't really care all that much. I am more, or least, interested in what Dowan's been up to. Seeing it's morning, it's safe to assume he's not been invited yet or dragged into the bathroom by Jaemin Shin. If I could play it well, I could warn him before that thug got to Dowan.

I'm very much interested in seeing the story I've been following for a year develop in real time. While I'm interested in my own things, like growing stronger – exploring that cave-dungeon, etc – Dowan needs to develop in strength.

His system is too powerful to let it stagnate.

And, speak of the devil.

In the hallways, the subject in question walks with bandages on his face. Students gossip about him, how he and Chulwoo fought, and how the white-haired bitch cursed the infirmary – well that was a bad idea on his part.

"Where are you going, bro?" Beom asked, noticing me getting up.

"To the bathroom," I replied, looking at him playing with his phone, "What? Want to come along? You could hold my dick while I piss~"

"It's 8:50, you dimwit. Too early for that kind of bullshit!"

"Haha."

..

.

..

.

The door opened, and Dowan stepped in. Immediately, the boy is met with Jaemin Shin. The dyed-haired thug, who is currently smoking from a vape.

"Oh, Dowan~"

Dowan perked up.

"I had something to tell you, "The guy puff a couple of smoke, " So we meet here, huh~"

"Huh…? What do you mean, Jaemin, " Dowan looked around, " Did you also start a game?"

"Game? I don't game, haha," He said, inhaling again.

This time Dowan is really confused.

"We're, more or least, here because… " Jaemin smiled smugly, " I saw everything."

"..."

"How you beat up ChulWoo Min."

Dowan looked shaken, as his eyes darken in surprise and fear.

The system user looked cautiously at the blonde, as he walked towards him.

"Is 'Loser with hidden powers' your concept?" Jaemin fist-bump Dowan chest. Who, in turn, slightly flinches.

Why is Jaemin talking to Dowan of all people?

"You're funny, haha~"

Jaemin face slight tilts, "Tonight, I'm going to have a drink with girls from an all girl highschool~"

Dowan is startled.

"Wanna go together?"

"Is that an invitation for two-people?"

Suddenly a voice echoed behind them. Both of them turned, surprised at the sudden intrusion. Dowan was first to recognize who this person is.

Said individual turned from the urinal, revailing the the flat face of Si-Wool.

"Y-you're here? "Dowan pointed out.

"Whose this, Dowan?" Jaemin aske, taking out his vape again.

Si-Wool hooked his arm on Dowan, who deflated from his arms weight.

"His buddy," Si-Wool replied nonchalantly.

The bob-cut boy was about to protest, when his eyes strayed onto Si-Wool's hand. Dowan's eyes widened, as he saw writings that read…

"Play along, this guy is dangerous."

"Is that true Dowan?" Jaemin got closer to Si-Wool, "Are you really his buddy?" His face is shadowed.

Si-Wool didn't react, waiting for Dowan's response.

"Y-yeah, Si-Wool is my f-friend…" He skittishly answered.

"Hmm, Si-Wool eh, I feel like I heard that name before…" Jaemin looked up, musing, "Are you associated with Beom Seok by any chance?"

Si-Wool is surprised, " That blonde fatso? Yeah, what about it?" Both lies and truth.

"Hehehehe~ fatso, huh~" Jaemin giggled, "I guess from your way of calling him, you're close~ Well, Si-Wool I could arrange another spot."

"If Dowan agrees."

"I agree…"

Both Si-Wool and Jaemin looked at him surprised. However, Si-Wool is quickly replaced by a knowing look.

Jaemin smiled ominous, "I guess, I got two-tails bring, hehehe~"

..

Jaemin left Si-wool and Dowan to their own devices. Dowan is especially the most confused on what just occurred. Jaemin didn't look angry at him for beating ChulWoo, and he even invited him to hang out drinking. Suddenly, Si-Wool, the guy who interacted with him, interjected and asked for him to join. It's all very confusing for him.

"I assume you've a lot of questions?" Si-Wool smirks.

"You don't know, man…" Dowan fell to the ground on his butt, as an exhale of relief escaped him, "What just happened out there?"

"Well, you're on your own Hero's quest~" At that word, Dowan stiffens. Sensing what he just said, Si-Wool inquired, "Huh, what's with the reaction?"

Dowan looked at him, suspicious, "Did you start a game, Si-Wool?"

"Game? What game?"

This response made him at ease. Of course, Si-Wool knows the subtext, he just played along to keep it low-key.

"N-nothing, " Dowan looked at the ceiling, "What do you mean by quest, tho."

"It's exactly that, you just got invited by Jaemin Shin…" Si-Wool took out a gum, and handed it to Dowan, "Remember what I said last time?"

"What are yo-" Dowan's head sparked, "Y-you said that I'm gonna attract attention…"

"Verbatim." Si-Wool smiled, "Jaemin invited you to a 'drink' and I know you know what that means?..."

"N-no, not exactly."

"Nah, you know. Just too scared. " His words made Dowan shift a bit.
