Chapter 28 - Coincidence
Two days had passed since the events. It was now Monday, which meant WuYue was at school, leaving YouYu alone at home.
Living alone at home was more convenient for YouYu. After all, it meant he could do anything he wanted as long as he didn’t make too much noise.
For example, today… he planned to experiment with his abilities before WuYue and Bai Yu arrived. His goal was to create a “weakness” or a “key” that could lead to his defeat.
Afterward, he intended to use his identity as “YouYu” to communicate this to them, and then, in the subsequent battles, he would gain their trust through the ‘defeat’ of Ouja.
That was the plan.
But before that…
“I just remembered something… Mamba.”
He recalled something that still existed but hadn’t yet occurred—a potentially fatal oversight.
“What is it?” Mamba asked.
“It’s… do you really think they won’t discover my current identity?”
“Even though my body and voice change after transforming, I’m still slightly concerned.”
“Honestly, I have no idea how they determine who is an ‘enemy’—someone they need to defeat.”
“I asked WuYue about it… She just said it’s by feeling, such an abstract method.”
“So… I wanted to get some explanation from you rather than just guessing on my own.”
“…I see.”
After thinking for a moment, Mamba responded, “I’m not entirely sure how they determine who their enemies are, but I can explain about the question of whether you’ll be discovered or not.”
“…Let’s put it this way: you’re the first human I’ve ever made a ‘contract’ with. None of my former colleagues have ever attempted this before, so it’s the first time that an existence like yours has appeared in this world.”
“And… perhaps because your transformation isn’t yet complete, still retaining some ‘human’ elements, even though I’ve modified your body, as long as you’re not fully unleashing your power, you appear no different from an ordinary person to outsiders—even to those magical girls.”
“Hmm… I see. Then I have another question: according to what you’re saying, I haven’t fully transformed into something like a ‘Negative Beast,’ so why is my power…”
“So strong?”
After pondering for a moment, YouYu asked this question.
After all, during the first battle when ‘Ouja’ appeared, except for a little bit of combat knowledge he learned from Mamba, everything else—how to fight, how to harness his power—was all up to him.
Except for when he summoned Mamba to cosplay ‘Final Vent’ when dealing with that cadre puppet…
(TL: this)
He relied mostly on his own strength to kill the spider monster, as well as fighting Bai Yu.
So why… as someone who isn’t a pure breed, neither fully ‘human’ nor ‘Negative Beast,’ can he wield such immense power?
It is really a bit unreasonable.
“As far as I can surmise, one reason could be that you’ve absorbed a significant amount of negative emotions from the magical girls. Another reason—”
“—might be because you still retain a ‘human’ aspect within you.”
“How so?”
“Well, what I’m saying is that for beings like us, who feed on and draw energy from negative emotions, we generally can’t store too much of that negative energy for combat because we also need to ‘fill our stomachs’ as well.”
“But for someone like you, YouYu, your transformation isn’t complete. You’re both human and a Negative Beast, and your human side compensates for the weaknesses of the Negative Beast side.”
“In other words…”
“Because you still possess the human ability to replenish energy, you don’t necessarily need to consume negative emotions to survive.”
“And since your negative emotions no longer serve the purpose of ‘feeding’ you, they have only one function left.”
“And that function is to be fully utilized in strengthening yourself, which is why you’re so powerful.”
“Moreover, since you’re still human and capable of generating emotions, in a sense, you can sustain yourself by using the negative emotions born from your own ‘despair’ to strengthen yourself.”
“…Listening to you say it like that, I sound pretty overpowered…”
After listening to Mamba’s explanation, YouYu remained silent momentarily and laughed.
So, he’s really that special of a being? He himself didn’t even know he was this awesome!
And being both human and a Negative Beast—what an interesting setting. The idea of growing stronger through one’s own despair has a certain “willpower-based” feel to it!
But this kind of setting also seems like it could easily ‘go rampage.’ It’s risky, but he’s confident he can handle it well.
“Alright… Thanks for the explanation, Mamba. I’ve asked all my questions; I’ve got nothing else for now.”
“That’s good, YouYu. If you don’t have any more questions, I’ll go into hibernation for now. After all, I can’t just let you handle everything alone. Once I’ve rested and recharged my power, I’ll be able to assist you more effectively.”
“…Thanks then.”
Hearing Mamba’s words, YouYu was at a loss for what to say. In the end, all he could muster was a simple “thanks.”
As Mamba gradually quieted within him, YouYu couldn’t help but feel a bit reflective. It was surprising how considerate Mamba could be—nothing like the ruthless villains one typically sees in anime.
So… if the opportunity arises, he might try to convince Mamba to abandon any “revenge plans.” After all, deep down, YouYu still wants to stand on the side of humanity. As for destroying the world, ruling over humans, or plunging the entire world into despair, he has no interest in any of that.
Besides, once he’s dealt with the issues here, his world is still waiting for him to return. If possible, he doesn’t want things to escalate too far.
“…”
“Click!”
Just as he was deep in thought, the sound of the front door opening broke the silence.
Hearing this, YouYu instinctively looked up and said.
“Welcome back, WuYue. You… Who’s that next to you?” YouYu asked as he lifted his head, realizing someone had walked in with WuYue.
The person was none other than Bai Yu, wearing the Rainbow High School uniform.
“Eh~ Don’t you recognize her, YouYu? She’s Bai Yu! Funny enough, she’s actually from the same school as me. I never noticed her before.”
Hearing YouYu’s question, WuYue replied.
“…”
For a moment, YouYu was taken aback by how bizarre the situation was.
So, Bai Yu was actually from the same school as WuYue all along?
This is too much of a coincidence!
