Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Entrance Exam.
"How did it go?"
"I messed up..."
Coming out of the U.A. exam hall, Midoriya Izuku asked Shinso Hitoshi about his situation, and he just had a very depressed look on his face. The result was obvious...
"Ojiro, how about you?"
"I think I did pretty well!"
Compared to Shinso's extreme depression, Ojiro was smiling, clearly indicating he did well in the exam.
"Midoriya, how about you?"
"Although I defeated a few mock enemies, I think it still wasn't enough..."
Midoriya smiled awkwardly. Compared to other exam students, his performance wasn't outstanding. If the full score was 100, he was probably just at the passing line.
"Sorry..."
Both of his companions didn't do well, and Ojiro Mashirao, who did well, felt a bit guilty.
"It's okay, the results are based on our own efforts. If there's anyone to blame, it's ourselves for not working hard enough..."
Midoriya said this with a big heart. After all, the result was as he expected, but you always have to try, right?
After the U.A. High School exam, the three of them took the subway home. Now, they just had to wait for the results.
"Take a look at this student."
At U.A. High School, the teachers reviewing the entrance exam results noticed a particularly outstanding student. They played the video for the other teachers, and the video they were watching was of Midoriya Izuku.
"His physical abilities are impressive. It seems he defeated the enemy with just his skills."
"And this kid didn't hesitate at all when saving that girl. He made quick and accurate decisions and saved the girl without any delay."
In U.A.'s exam system, rescuing others also earns high rescue points. After all, being a hero is not just about defeating enemies but also saving people from danger. Midoriya's performance earned him a lot of rescue points.
From watching Midoriya's video, the teachers all praised this student. If everything checks out, he should be directly promoted to the Hero Course.
"Uh, this kid's name is Midoriya Izuku, and he's 'Quirkless'?!"
The teacher who was interested in Midoriya's performance pulled up his file, which showed his name and Quirk record. Unfortunately, Midoriya Izuku was 'Quirkless'.
The teachers who had just praised Midoriya fell silent. It wasn't that they discriminated against 'Quirkless' students, but it was very hard for a student without a Quirk to become a hero.
U.A. High School's Hero Course uses a very strict training method. Graduates from the Hero Course are usually very strong heroes right from the start. Therefore, U.A. carefully selects students for the Hero Course.
Even though Midoriya performed very well, the teachers, thinking long-term, believed that a 'Quirkless' student like Midoriya would have a hard time keeping up with the other Hero Course students based on physical abilities alone.
If they let this kid into the Hero Course now, it might become a torment for him in the future... This was the unanimous opinion of the U.A. teachers.
"Although we feel sorry for this kid, we can only reject him from the Hero Course..."
The teachers regretfully announced Midoriya's failure. They couldn't let a 'Quirkless' student pursue the harsh dream of becoming a hero, which would only lead to pain and suffering in the end.
---
A week later, Midoriya Izuku received a letter from U.A. High School, clearly expressing their regret and informing him that he had unfortunately failed the exam.
"So, it turned out like this..."
Midoriya sighed but didn't feel disappointed. He had expected this outcome. At the same time, he opened another letter.
It was also from U.A. High School, but this one was an admission letter for the Support Course.
After the Hero Course exam at U.A. High School, Midoriya Izuku also took the Support Course exam, which had a completely different atmosphere.
If the Hero Course entrance exam was a battlefield, the Support Course entrance exam was a gathering of inventors.
Hatsume Mei, who also took the Support Course exam, brought all her big and small equipment. Of course, Midoriya Izuku was responsible for carrying the heavy stuff.
After the Support Course teachers reviewed the scores, Hatsume Mei passed the exam smoothly. Next was Midoriya Izuku...
Then they saw Midoriya carefully take out his "Homemade Bomb Improved Version" and very seriously told the teachers that it was dangerous.
The teachers didn't care and threw Midoriya's "Homemade Bomb Improved Version" into the test field. Midoriya quickly grabbed Hatsume Mei and ran away from the Support Course exam venue.
A big cloud of yellow smoke spread out. Anyone who smelled it foamed at the mouth and collapsed, paralyzed. Only Midoriya and Hatsume Mei, who ran out in time, escaped this disaster.
"What did you make this time..."
"Uh... it's a herring can bomb. It smells so bad it can make people faint, but it won't harm the body. It's a very safe bomb."
"I'll never trust your 'safe' again..."
Midoriya had created another super powerful biochemical weapon, and this time it knocked out everyone in the Support Course exam venue.
Luckily, Midoriya's design used a smoke bomb, and the bad smell quickly disappeared. The people in the Support Course finally got relief...
Even though Midoriya caused such a big problem, the Support Course teachers all said he was talented and must be recruited into the Support Course. For these invention enthusiasts, as long as your invention interests them, other things are minor.
So, after failing the Hero Course at U.A. High School, Midoriya Izuku successfully moved to the Support Course, achieving his initial goal of entering U.A. High School.
Of course, Midoriya was also warned that he must inform the teachers and get approval before inventing any bombs in the future...
After receiving the admission notice, Midoriya called Shinso Hitoshi.
"Shinso, how's it going on your side?"
"I messed up the Hero Course exam, so I applied for the General Course instead."
As Midoriya expected, Shinso Hitoshi didn't defeat any robot enemies in the Hero Course exam.
"What about Ojiro?"
"He was lucky and got into the Hero Course!"
"Really..."
Midoriya was silent for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh, making Shinso on the other end of the phone very confused.
"Well, we need to work harder and catch up with Ojiro!!"
"Yeah! I won't give up so easily!"
Midoriya's optimistic words cheered up Shinso, who was feeling a bit down. Falling behind now didn't mean he would always be behind others.
"Let's work hard and show our skills at the U.A. Sports Festival!"
The U.A. Sports Festival was Midoriya Izuku's next goal. Those who performed well at the festival had a chance to move up to the Hero Course!
