Chapter 14: Minjin and the First Day in School
Minjin and Heo Yeong-hwan were summoned to the teacher's room, where they stood before their homeroom teacher, Mr. Yu. Before arriving, Heo Yeong-hwan was allowed time to wash his face.
"What's wrong with you two? It's only the first day of school, and you're already fighting!" Mr. Yu exclaimed, his voice stern as he pointed at Minjin. "You're making trouble on your first day! This isn't America; you are now in Korea, so please act politely!"
Mr. Yu sighed deeply as he looked at Heo Yeong-hwan. "Do you truly love your mother? Do you want her to return to me and plead for forgiveness?"
Heo Yeong-hwan kept his head down with an expression of shame on his face.
Minjin glanced aside.
"Hey! You should bow your head, too!" Mr. Yu commanded sharply, directing his words at Minjin.
Minjin quickly lowered her head.
"Return to your classroom! If there's another fight, I'll notify your parents!" Mr. Yu's tone was unmistakably final.
Both Minjin and Heo Yeong-hwan lowered their heads and exited the room.

Heo Yeong-hwan walked ahead with a smug expression, followed closely by Minjin. As they reached their classroom, Kim Aecha stood outside the door, arms crossed and clearly annoyed.
Kim Aecha narrowed her eyes as she observed Heo Yeong-hwan entering the room. With a roll of her eyes, she shifted her focus to Minjin as she approached.
"Here's my PE uniform. Feel free to use it," Kim Aecha offered, handing Minjin the neatly folded outfit.
Minjin accepted it with a grateful smile. "Gomawo."
Kim Aecha nodded back with an encouraging smile before entering the classroom. Minjin glanced at the PE uniform and let out a sigh.

After classes, Heo Yeong-hwan made his way to the training room for taekwondo practice. While adjusting his belt, a teammate approached with a look of curiosity.
"Hey, I heard people say someone stood up to you," the teammate remarked, attempting to gauge Heo Yeong-hwan's response.
Heo Yeong-hwan shot him a piercing glare and remained silent, his frustration clear. Sensing the mounting tension, the teammate stepped back to keep a safer distance.
At that moment, Coach Cha and Mr. Kim, accompanied by Minjin, entered the training room. Heo Yeong-hwan caught sight of her, and a slight drop of his jaw revealed his annoyance, immediately becoming a scowl. Although Minjin saw him, she opted to disregard his presence.
"Everyone, meet Park Minjin," Mr. Kim announced. "She's from America and will be training with us. Go ahead and introduce yourself, Minjin-ah."
Minjin politely bowed. "Annyeong haseyo, I am Park Minjin. Nice to meet you all."
Her new teammates took turns introducing themselves. When it came to Heo Yeong-hwan, he paused for a moment before stating, "I am Heo Yeong-hwan."
"Okay, change into your dobok," Mr. Kim instructed.
Minjin accompanied the group to the changing area before returning to the training ground. The sparring session started with Heo Yeong-hwan and another participant teammate.
Heo Yeong-hwan showcased his dominance in the sparring match, demonstrating his control over the fight. A powerful final kick to the chest unbalanced his opponent, sealing the victory. The match ended with both competitors bowing formally to each other.
Minjin watched the sparring match and couldn't suppress a smirk at Heo Yeong-hwan's display. She sat on one side while he sat across from her, his eyes occasionally darting in her direction.
"Alright, everyone, great job," Mr. Kim remarked, focusing on Minjin. "Now, let's see you in action, Minjin-ah."
Minjin rose to his feet.
Mr. Kim was preparing to call someone for a sparring session with Minjin when Heo Yeong-hwan raised his hand. With a resigned sigh, Mr. Kim selected him. Heo Yeong-hwan's grin grew broader as he put on the body gear and head protection, excited to showcase his skills.
Minjin and Heo Yeong-hwan stepped to the center of the mat and exchanged respectful bows. Heo Yeong-hwan leaned in and taunted, "Don't be upset if I beat you."
Minjin shot back a smirk but opted to stay quiet.
As the sparring commenced, both fighters readied themselves for the first strike. Heo Yeong-hwan executed a rapid kick, which Minjin skillfully countered with her own. The bout swiftly escalated into an intense contest, with both combatants delivering precise and swift kicks to each other's chests. The room resonated with the impact of their strikes and the astonished reactions of their teammates.
Heo Yeong-hwan pressed on, launching a series of fierce kicks at Minjin. Despite being pushed to her limits, Minjin skillfully defended herself while countering with her own kicks and defensive moves. The exchange persisted until Minjin landed a perfectly timed kick that knocked Heo Yeong-hwan down.
When Mr. Kim called the end of the sparring match, applause filled the room. Minjin, slightly out of breath but triumphant, stood confidently as her teammates cheered excitedly, impressed by her fierce and skillful performance.
Now, on his feet, Heo Yeong-hwan appeared visibly defeated yet maintained his poise. Despite the loss, he respectfully bowed to Minjin, who reciprocated the gesture.
