The forest was tranquil, a sharp contrast to the intensity of their earlier battlefield.
"Alright, that's all. If you want to join the Guardian Twelve Ninjas, be careful," Kaitan said as he glanced at Asuma and his group.
He had just finished explaining the situation, piecing together bits of information from the memories he'd read. According to what he'd uncovered, the daimyo of the Fire Country had been the target of numerous assassination attempts over the years. The Fire Temple, which trained guardian ninjas for the Fire Country, maintained detailed records of these attempts, generation after generation.
It was clear that beyond the five great ninja villages, the internal power struggles within the Fire Country were equally complex. Kaitan's analysis of the situation painted a dangerous picture, one that made Asuma and his group reconsider their next steps.
"This has nothing to do with you," Asuma finally replied, his tone firm. "It's my decision whether I join or not."
Despite being somewhat grateful for Kaitan's insights, Asuma remained committed to his own principles.
Nearby, Dunko, who had been listening intently, nodded respectfully toward Kaitan. "Thanks for the information. Knowing about potential threats makes our mission much easier."
Kaitan shrugged. "Not my responsibility to babysit you. That's something the Third Hokage should handle."
Then, turning to his own team, Kaitan grinned. "Let's go, boys. It's not every day we get to travel like this. Now that the task is done, I'll guide you through the Land of Fire. You'll gain some experience, and I'll even teach you a thing or two."
"Yeah!" Rin and the others replied enthusiastically.
"What kind of ninjutsu will you teach us?" Rin asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
Kaitan smirked. "Who said anything about ninjutsu? A true ninja's strength doesn't lie solely in techniques. What I'll teach you is far more important."
Rin pouted. "Captain, you've never taught us ninjutsu!"
Kaitan chuckled as he continued walking, his team following behind. Meanwhile, Dunko observed their departure with admiration. "Those Konoha elites... they're impressive."
Asuma, still processing everything, nodded slowly. "Yeah. That guy, Kaitan... he's no less capable than Kakashi."
As the memory of Kaitan's genjutsu returned to him, Asuma felt his stomach churn. It had been disturbingly powerful, far more intense than anything he had encountered, even from Kurenai.
On the road to their next destination, a messenger hawk landed on Kaitan's arm. He tied a piece of parchment to its leg before sending it off into the sky.
"Wow, Captain! Your genjutsu is so advanced you can even use it to communicate with hawks?" Rin asked, his admiration evident.
Kaitan shrugged. "It's nothing to be envious of. I've tested it before—you and Xaasu don't have the aptitude for genjutsu."
Rin's face fell. "That's harsh, Captain."
However, Shenu's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Wait, Captain... are you saying I do have the talent for genjutsu?"
Kaitan nodded. "You do. But talent alone won't cut it—you'll need dedication to master my techniques. For now, focus on basic genjutsu. Secret techniques require a higher level of proficiency."
Shenu beamed with pride, while Rin and Xaasu exchanged envious glances.
"What about us, Captain? Do we have any talents?" Rin pressed, clearly eager for some validation.
"Of course you do," Kaitan replied. "Everyone has their strengths."
The messenger hawk soared across Konoha's skyline, eventually landing at the Communications Department. A ninja retrieved the scroll tied to its leg, glanced at it, and said, "It's information from a field mission. It should go to Hokage-sama."
Another ninja, busy sorting reports, replied, "It's not urgent. We'll deliver it once Hokage-sama is free."
At the Hokage's office, Sarutobi Hiruzen read the scroll with a thoughtful expression. "Kaitan's efficiency is impressive. He managed to find Asuma so quickly."
The report detailed Kaitan's encounter with Asuma, including a brief skirmish. It also mentioned Asuma's rudeness and reluctance to acknowledge his companions.
Kaitan's message humorously complained about being frightened by Asuma's "super-powerful ninjutsu," which included his ash-cloud explosion technique and the Fuuma Shuriken Clone Jutsu. As a result, Kaitan requested permission to stay in the Land of Fire for a while, claiming the lively atmosphere would help him recover from the experience.
Additionally, he promised to use this time to train his team, aiming to turn them into capable, independent ninjas.
Hiruzen chuckled. "Let them be. Konoha is stable enough for now, and this could be good for them."
The Hokage's secretary, however, frowned. "Isn't this just an excuse to slack off? Shouldn't they return to help with the village's recovery?"
Hiruzen shook his head. "Kaitan has his methods. Besides, the messenger hawk he used returned as a straw construct. Sending new orders would be a waste of resources."
Meanwhile, at Linchuan Waterfall, Kaitan stood before his team. "Alright, listen up. Each of you has unique talents. I'll help you hone them, but don't expect miracles overnight."
He turned to Shenu first. "You have a natural aptitude for genjutsu, which gives you an advantage in manipulating perception and illusions."
Shenu nodded eagerly, his confidence boosted.
Next, Kaitan addressed Rin. "Your theoretical knowledge and solid foundation make you a natural teacher. Your patience and understanding are assets in this field."
Rin's face lit up. Teaching had always been his dream, and hearing Kaitan affirm it filled him with pride.
Finally, Kaitan turned to Xaasu. "Your reflexes and spatial awareness are exceptional. These skills make you a natural with hidden weapons like shuriken, and they hint at potential for mastering time-space techniques."
Xaasu scratched his head, surprised by the revelation. "Time-space techniques? I never thought about that..."
Kaitan nodded. "Yes, but remember, talent alone isn't enough. Hard work is what truly counts."
Despite Kaitan's encouragement, Rin and Xaasu couldn't help feeling a little disheartened. Their talents seemed less flashy compared to Shenu's genjutsu potential.
Sensing their unease, Kaitan added, "You all have strengths that will make you invaluable to the team. I may not be able to teach you everything, but I'll do my best to guide you."
With renewed determination, the team began their training under Kaitan's watchful eye, eager to unlock their full potential.
Back in Konoha, Hiruzen reflected on Kaitan's abilities. "His techniques are remarkable, especially his use of weaving as a medium for secret arts. It's rare to see such innovation."
The Third Hokage smiled, confident that Konoha's future was in capable hands.
