Chapter 436: Killing The Assassins
When Kent left the carriage, Lady Lani and Nara also left and appeared a few meters away.
It was the only way for Nara to keep an eye on him and perhaps help him if he got in over his head. It was her way of doing her job as his guard and seeing if he could wield the sword like how he could handle his women.
Though he rescued her from captivity, she still wants to see him in action.
After watching him kill the first assassin, they followed him to the place where the rest were hidden. It was a weird thing to do, but they followed him.
Naturally, Lady Lani knew if she were in Kent's place, she would sneak in and eliminate them individually. Nara would have done the same.
But not Kent.
The bastard walked to the front door and stopped.
"What is he coming to do?" Nara asked. "I can count five Ascension-stage cultivators in there and ten Transcendents. He wouldn't actually kick his way in."
"If he were able to fight against Evil Bat, who is a Sovereign, then he would do just that."
As if he were waiting for that cue from Lady Lani, Kent kicked the door in and walked inside, wiping the dust off his sleeves.
He was immediately surrounded.
Then, to their shock, he actually decided to drop one wise saying.
Nara looked at Lady Lani's face as if to say, "This motherfucker didn't just do that."
But Kent just stood there, and after dropping the icy saying on them, he gave them that classic line.
"Gentlemen, shall we?"
His sword appeared in his hand as one of the Transcendents lunged at him with daggers drawn. Kent stepped backward, evading the attack like it was the easiest thing a person could do.
This stunned the assassin.
Then his sword came out of the sheath and went back in, along with the head of the assassin falling to the ground.
It was one quick and precise draw that happened so quickly. After the head fell, the assassins knew the monster before them could not be killed.
The assassin he killed was one of their best, so the moment his classic one-dash kill attack failed, they knew they had to run.
"Oh, but you cannot run," Kent smiled and activated one of the abilities unlocked when he upgraded the [Soul Shock] skill.
"Soul Lock." The entire space around the house where the assassins were hiding was locked down. "No running now unless you want to die the most painful way."
His warning was heard by all, and like he said, none of them moved, for they knew they were under rather powerful soul energy.
Those closer to the boundaries of the soul lock felt their souls getting pressed down hard.
"Kill him," one of the Ascension-stage assassins ordered, and like the obedient assassins they were, they lunged at Kent.
He moved back, evading an arrow aimed at his head. In return, he turned and locked eyes with the assassin atop a structure who was using the crossbow against him.
His eyes shone, and the assassin who locked eyes with him fell from the structure to his death.
'Fuck, that was dangerous.'
Kent used the [Soul Rending Glare] for the first time, and it was more lethal than he expected.
⟪The person has no defenses around their soul nor any treasure protecting their soul, so it was a direct attack. But even if their soul is protected, you are a Tier 10 soul cultivator; killing him was a normal thing to do.⟫
Akira said to Kent, making him smile as he dodged yet another arrow from the second bowman. He used the Soul Rending Glare again, and the results were the same.
The assassin fell to his death, making Kent sigh. Then he pulled his sword from the sheath and unleashed his Level 9 Enhanced Sword Intent and Qi.
He moved and executed a series of sword attacks, creating sword lights in the air. They all happened very fast and were over before they knew it.
He arrived back at the position he had moved from, and when he sheathed his sword again, all the Transcendents there were beheaded.
It was as simple as unleashing an attack, and like he expected, they all died.
Kent glared at the Ascension-stage assassins who were looking around themselves, watching the headless bodies of their teammates on the ground.
Kent didn't bother with that. Instead, he acted with two skills.
The void cracked behind them, and two crescent sword arcs flashed out, cutting four in half. It was a quick, precise attack that came and went like the wind.
Perhaps it was because of shock, or because assassins naturally lack stronger defense, or maybe both, but killing four Level 2 Ascension-stage assassins that quickly shouldn't be that simple.
Yet on the ground now were the four who died before even the void closed.
The only one left was the leader, who was at the 4th level of the Root Ascension stage. His sword vanished, and he glared at the clearly terrified assassin.
"I planted a soul bomb into your soul, so your death is going to be as simple as snapping my finger. However, you still have a chance to live after this.
So answer my questions well and perhaps I will be generous."
Kent spoke coldly to the assassin, whose grip on his dagger loosened, and the dagger fell to the ground. The battle happened in under two minutes.
The brat he and his men were bragging about capturing and torturing before killing had broken through their front door and killed every last one of them, leaving only him.
And now, even though it sounded unbelievable, he is hearing that there is a bomb planted in his heart.
In truth, Kent was telling the truth.
After upgrading the [Soul Shock] skill to the Mystical grade, its name changed to [Soul Mapping Arts].
It became something akin to a technique with multiple skills. The description described these as abilities; the first ability was the [Soul Brand] he used on the Assassin he spotted during the alchemy trial and later used to locate him.
The second was the [Soul Lock] skill, which locks the space around 50 meters. If not allowed by him, anything that tries to get in or out experiences an agonizing soul attack.
If not strong enough in the soul, they will die.
The last skill is called [Soul Bomb]. This can only be used once every two hours. It basically turns one's soul into a bomb with a casual snap of his finger as the detonator.
So he wasn't bluffing.
"Tell me. Who sent you?" Kent asked, but just when the assassin was about to open his mouth, a mark appeared on his forehead, causing blood to pour out of his mouth, eyes, and nose.
He fell back and died. But it didn't end there; the mark shot toward Kent, aiming to enter his forehead.
However, Kent grabbed hold of it before it could enter his forehead. He used his soul energy to enter the talisman.
"We will meet soon enough," he said before destroying the mark.
He looked at the bodies briefly before they all vanished into his Necro Forge.
With that, he left and met up with the two shocked ladies. They soon returned to their slow-moving carriage and continued returning to the hotel.
Meanwhile, a Sovereign sitting somewhere far from Vastport city snapped his eyes open as blood flowed from his mouth, nose, and eyes.
"Kent Madson."
The gritting of his teeth could be heard many miles away.
