chapter 19
Headless Iron Cavalry – 3
‘I’ve come to the right place, right?’
I was relieved at the fact that the familiar scenery that I had seen so much in games finally appeared. I wondered if I had taken the wrong direction in the middle, but I am very glad that I came to the right place.
I barely managed to reach the boss field of ironclad cavalry without a head after literally running for two full nights. In the game, about 10 minutes on horseback was enough.
After running for two days, somehow I tied a horse that looked more energetic than me who was riding on it to a nearby tree, and then took out the items needed for the boss battle from the saddle.
‘One Two Three Four Five… ‥ great. I have everything.’
I checked the number and put it in the bag on my waist. This was the key item for attacking ironclad cavalry without a head. I even practiced throwing with stones of similar weight and size to make sure I didn’t miss.
The moment this misses and fails to complete the gimmick, it was good to say that clearing the headless armored cavalry was virtually impossible.
Of course, it’s not physically impossible, and under the condition that there were no mistakes, I could manage to wake up if I concentrated for a little over 20 hours.
It is literally possible. That’s not something people would do.
ㅡQueueek!
I confirmed that I could hear a scream as if someone was tearing a pig’s throat from nearby, and I drew out my bloody sword. It was the sound of the mobs roaming around the boss field.
As we continued along the road, we saw monsters roaming around that looked like they had shrunken dried boars down to the size of medium-sized dogs.
On the way to the ironclad cavalry boss fight, there are a total of 8 miscellaneous mobs to kill. All of them were of the same type, and to match the title of miscellaneous mobs, they were the ones who came running and hit the body and 2 bites at the end of the pattern.
If you were mindful, it would be harder to hit the attack.
I adjusted my distance and approached slowly. And at the point where I took six more steps, my legs stopped. The guy closest to me saw me and flinched.
The other guys lined up behind him were busy doing their own thing. It must have been a distance that I could confirm with my own eyes, but looking at it like that, it seemed that the game’s recognition system was applied as it was.
‘It’s a good thing for me.’
It was because I had it all in my head how close I had to approach to lure out one person at a time.
In terms of the battle system of Brunet 4, it was much harder to fight with a lot of street mobs than 1v1 with a decent boss. Needless to say, both of them were tough.
So, the key was to aim for a one-on-one battle as much as possible. one at a time. It is an unchanging truth that works in all the brunei series.
The wild boar monster recognized me and rushed at it without covering its front. Then, a few steps away from me, it jumped up and opened its mouth wide, baring its teeth. It was a biting pattern.
He swung the bloody sword at his teeth. Empty! With a sound, his body bounced back slightly. Taking advantage of that gap, he quickly thrust his sword into his lower jaw.
With the sensation of the blade digging into the dried flesh, the tip of the knife that had been driven into the lower jaw protruded from the top of the head. The struggle stopped in an instant.
He drew his sword, but no liquid came out. If it was a game, it would have displayed the amount of experience gained on the HUD. Since there was no such thing, I wondered if I had done it right.
Well, if you saw that his head had been pierced and there was no movement, he would be dead. Even in the game, after deflecting, he died in one flat hit.
“next.”
A few more steps forward. A skinny wild boar in the distance reacted to my appearance again and came running with a stomp.
If you are asked to point out the core combat elements of the Brünt series, you will be able to count the concept of ‘combat fatigue’, which is practically a second physical strength, on your first finger.
Battle fatigue is a concept that builds up a certain amount when defending, deflecting, being attacked, and rolling.
This is because if you are hit by an enemy or cannot properly deflect an attack while the combat fatigue gauge is full, the gauge is reset and the character is incapacitated for 2 seconds.
In the incapacitated state, no manipulation is possible until the character recovers, and all damage is multiplied by 1.5. Even in vanilla, in boss battles, you had to be prepared for death the moment the gauge exploded.
In Darkest Light mode, that’s not enough, the duration of incapacitation is increased to 4 seconds, and the amount of damage received is doubled instead of 1.5. It just didn’t mean to die.
That’s why bounce is so important. As long as the enemy’s attack is properly deflected, even if the combat fatigue gauge is accumulated to the end, it never explodes and remains full.
Of course, enemies also have battle fatigue gauges. Filling it up was a prerequisite for casting a special attack called ‘parring’.
And, this headless armored cavalryman was the only boss who could parry even though it was a monster type enemy.
ㅡPurruleuk!
The heavily armed horse, wrapped in iron armor all over its body, looked at me and groaned. The rider on top of it, with nothing above his shoulder and equally heavily armed with iron armor, spun his spear as if threatening.
It was a look that explained very well why this boss’s name was ‘Headless Iron Armored Cavalry’.
Compared to a normal horse, its shoulder height seemed to be twice as high, and the ironclad of ignorant thickness was wrapped around the whole body, so the feeling of intimidation was enormous.
Really, without exaggeration, just running around made the ground vibrate tremendously.
ㅡ hee hee hee hee hee!!!!!
The horse roared loudly as it sprang up its forepaws. This is the start. I firmly gripped the bloody sword with both hands. As the distance narrowed, it was not a cute sound like du-du-du-du, but a crackling sound.
‘From left to right, once from right to left. And take it down.’
It was a pattern I had already explained in front of the knight commanders. Each of the spears that were swung horizontally was deflected, and the downward slashing attack was avoided by rolling.
The rider pulled out the spear stuck in the ground with his right hand and turned it over his head several times to shake off the dirt. Then, after swinging it forward, he rode his horse again and disappeared.
The cavalryman, who ran back in this direction in a big circle, stabbed his spear. Let’s deflect the attack, Chaeng! Recoil rushed through the whole body with a heavy sound.
The next attack followed. The horse raised its forelegs, and the rider prepared to slam the spear down from above his head. I saw that and put my hand on my waist.
‘It’s deal time.’
The word “deal time” also meant that the armor breaking gimmick could be performed. At the same time as the horse slammed its foreleg to the ground, the cavalryman struck down the spear with all his might with both hands.
But I had already left the spot by rolling. The tip of the spear was deeply embedded in the poor floor, raising dust. Taking advantage of the chance to retrieve the spear, the rider took out the key item for defeating the boss this time.
A small bomb that causes an explosion at the point of impact. It was the only item that could break that iron armor.
‘now!’
Shortly after the cavalryman drew his spear, he aimed it at the horse’s head, activated the bomb’s fuze, and threw it.
The bomb flew precisely at the horse’s head, and as soon as it touched the armor, it caused a magnificent explosion with colorful flames.
ㅡ hee hee hee hee hee!!!!!
The horse, startled by the flames and explosions, roared and jumped. The cavalryman riding on it staggered. I was going to throw another one, but I decided not to be greedy and go safely.
In vanilla, if one is properly inserted, the rest can be thrown step by step to break the armor right away while it is stunned, but in danila mode, the stun time is too short, so the timing has to be extremely fine.
‘Let’s not be greedy. let’s go safely safety.’
If you hit the horse’s head with bombs five times, as before, the iron armor around the horse’s body will shatter, exposing its bare skin. From then on, no matter where I hit it, the damage went in.
In vanilla, there was a merchant in the field nearby, so you could buy unlimited bombs from that merchant at a low price. According to the setting, the merchant is the inventor of the bomb.
If you choose the option to talk to the merchant instead of the option to talk to him and buy something, this bomb is his own invention, and he says, ‘If you hit it several times in the weak point, it will be able to break even the thickest iron armor.’
Of course, breaking the iron armor was a gimmick limited to the headless ironclad cavalry boss fight. Against enemies wearing other armor, it took a hundred days to break it.
However, unlike vanilla, where you can try again and again even if you make a mistake because there is a merchant who sells unlimited bombs, the Dyaela mode has much more vicious conditions.
There were no vendors, and the player had to go around all the nearby fields to find the bombs. Besides, the number itself was only five.
You have to hit it five times to take off the armor, but there are only five bombs available in the field nearby.
That meant that if even one of the five misses, it was doomed.
ㅡpurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
The horse grunted and glared at me with angry eyes. The entire eye was covered with red glare, giving it a bloody color.
I laughed at that and snapped my finger as if to come. I don’t know if he can recognize this gesture.
Ironclad cavalry charged at me, shaking the ground.
