"Name."
"Link."
"Age."
"Male… I mean, 18."
At the Duskwater Town Police Station, Officer Jenny, who was registering Link, an illegal immigrant kidnapped by pirates, looked at him with a mix of confusion and doubt.
He didn't look 18—probably closer to 15 or 16.
Even Link himself felt his health had improved significantly after arriving in this world.
[Before you traveled through time, you were just a completely degraded, useless college student. Although you regained your youthful body, you were soon pierced through the abdomen by Patamon's "Air Cannon."]
Recalling the system's earlier prompt, Link guessed his body had returned to its peak—his high school days.
"Actually, I'm not sure," Link admitted. "Just put down an approximate age."
Jenny nodded and typed "16" into her computer.
"Place of birth?"
"I don't know."
Jenny frowned but ultimately entered "Duskwater Town."
A short while later, Link received a trainer card from the Hoenn region.
The card's front displayed his ID number, name, gender, age, place of birth, and residence, while the back would eventually record any honors he earned.
In Hoenn, trainer cards effectively served as citizenship IDs, as the household registration system was fairly lax.
Initially, Link had worried his undocumented status would cause significant problems. Instead, Officer Jenny swiftly confirmed his story and provided substantial assistance.
This kindness made him realize: There are still many good people in this world.
"Fu!"
Fennekin, perched on Link's shoulder, sniffed at the fresh ink on his trainer card and sneezed in disgust.
"Well, with this, you're now an official citizen under the Hoenn League," Jenny said with a smile. She seemed genuinely happy for the unlikely duo.
The Alliance and police were far more accommodating than Link had expected.
He had disclosed Fennekin's status as smuggled cargo and expressed his wish to return it to its original owner. However, investigations revealed the batch of eggs was entirely untraceable.
With no known origin and given Fennekin's strong bond with Link, Officer Jenny officially assigned the Pokémon to him as a "starter Pokémon," which every 10-year-old citizen was entitled to receive.
As an added gesture, she personally funded Link with 50,000 Pokédollars, acknowledging his assistance in the operation against the pirates.
Though the start of his journey had been rocky, Link felt motivated to integrate into this world.
Later that morning, with his trainer card in hand, Link strolled through Duskwater Town alongside Fennekin, taking in the sights of this new world.
Humans and Pokémon filled the streets, coexisting seamlessly. Common Hoenn-region Pokémon like Zigzagoon and Poochyena wandered freely, while rarer ones such as Bagon and Tropius occasionally appeared.
A street vendor selling takoyaki used a cheerful Corsola as a pickle jar weight.
In a flower shop's aquarium, Horsea floated lazily in the sunlight, occasionally puffing out streams of water.
A Magikarp flopped out of a fountain, splashing rainbows in the sunlight, only to be snatched mid-air by a swooping Wingull.
Not every hunt succeeded, though—one unlucky Wingull was bitten by a Carvanha and dragged into the water.
Nearby, a tired fisherman reeled in a shiny Magikarp but got slapped in the face twice before it escaped back into the sea.
An elderly man stared out toward Route 131, muttering cryptically, "Nothing again today…"
This harmonious blend of humans, Pokémon, and nature captivated Link, who had grown up in a bustling city. Everything felt surreal—like stepping into a dream.
Yet, despite its wonders, Link knew that wildflowers couldn't thrive without care.
Looking at Fennekin, who had been born just the night before and was now wide-eyed with curiosity, he made a decision.
"Fennekin, I believe every encounter has meaning," Link began.
"You and I came into this world on the same day. How about we journey together and see everything this world has to offer?"
"Fu?"
Fennekin tilted its head, not fully understanding, but its gaze softened as it snuggled closer to Link.
"Life without goals is fine for middle-aged or older people," Link continued. "But we're young. Let's aim for something big—becoming a trainer with all 8 badges, competing in the League Conference, and maybe even winning the championship!"
Link had initially considered becoming an 8-badge trainer as a simple goal, but with Fennekin by his side and the simulator at his disposal, he felt it was now within reach.
Fennekin, still developing its values, would grow and learn about the world through their adventures.
As for Link, he vowed to use this time to guide the young Pokémon, helping it discover its ideals and interests.
The journey ahead would be long, but it was theirs to shape, one step at a time.
With 54,396 Pokédollars in hand, Link had no clue where his next meal or bed would come from, yet he was brimming with confidence.
Despite being a "late-stage hero" with a simulator, Link cherished this new life and planned to recruit teammates methodically.
Even during a short walk, he had already envisioned names for his future team members' children.
His goal? A Sunny Day Team.
Fennekin (Fire/Psychic): The team's tactician, using its versatile psychic abilities for battlefield control and support.
Incineroar (Fire/Dark): A disruptive force, capable of intimidation and harassment.
Arcanine (Fire/Rock): The core damage dealer, excelling with moves like "Flare Blitz" and "Head Smash."
Charizard (Fire/Flying): Weather setter and special attack powerhouse.
To balance the team's vulnerabilities to Water, Ground, and Rock types, Link decided on a Grass-type addition.
He considered Amoonguss for its defensive potential, but real-world conditions—like strong winds or random flames—might prove problematic.
Instead, he opted for Dipplin, the Grass/Dragon Pokémon from Kitakami.
For the final slot, he considered Ursaluna or Decidueye.
The plan was clear. Charmander, Litten, Arcanine, and Dipplin would be recruited in that order, with flexibility for the last teammate.
