Chapter 28: CHAPTER-28
Blackthorn city:
Noah could be seen on top of lapras' shell while she swam towards a cave.
The cave was very dark and it didn't have any floor as it was filled with water.
Lampent was by his side lighting the way forward while also keeping an out on unexpected enemies.
The cave had many tunnels which leads to the dragon holy land.
'Atleast that's what I heard.' Noah checked his pokegear and still saw that it had some signal.
'Even inside a cave.' He stored it back into his bag.
'Its different from the anime.' He supported his chin with his hand as he thought about any memories regarding the dragon holy land.
'i hope that something interesting would be there.' Noah was quite curious about the dragon Pokemon which was defeated by the first gym leader.
"Lapras do you want to fight a dragon?" Noah asked which caused lapras to stop.
'Hmm? Did I scare her?' Noah was about to apologise but he stopped after following lapras' line of sight.
In the water an old man with an extremely wrinkly face with long white hair covering half his face was floating on the water.
He had a long goatie and a long moustache which were obviously white and he wore a blue robe with dragon patterns stitched onto them.
However these patterns were almost faded as the robe was worn out and looked so old.
"Dead?" Noah asked lapras which caused her to shake her head.
"Hohoho..don't worry young man, I was trying to become one with water!" The man suddenly opened his eyes and started to laugh.
Even if the laugh didn't wierd Noah out, the old man's reason did.
"You need help?" Noah asked the man as lapras approached him.
"Sure why not." The man smiled and swam towards lapras.
Noah reached out his arm towards the man.
"My name's Noah." Noah introduced himself as the man got on top of lapras with the help of Noah.
"You can call me Blackthorn." The man introduced himself.
"Blackthorn?" Noah turned towards the man and asked.
"Hehe no need to think too much, it's a coincidence." The man laughed and sat down on top of lapras' shell.
'I don't believe him.' Noah felt that this was quite similar to the encounter with the nameless girl.
'I will play along.' Noah had too much time on his hand so why not?
He also sat down on the shell as both Blackthorn and Noah had a staring contest.
They were trying to intimidate eachother.
you may ask why, but why not?
"You know, this leads to the dragon holy land and outsiders aren't allowed there." The man smiled and said this with narrow eyes.
"I am sneaking in, no one knows about it except us." Noah said with honesty.
The man's smile disappeared as his tone became heavy and rough: "Well it's good if you're here for an exploration or something but if you do something that may harm this place you will deeply regret it."
"Sure." Noah didn't seem to be frightened as he replied with a smile.
'I am pretty sure it's a ghost and lampent's flames can burn souls or was chandelure's flames?' Noah had a backup plan.
The two continued on their conversation about Pokemon, gym leaders, and some myths the old man shared.
"I am sure you know about the story of the nameless girl right?" Blackthorn asked as he pointed towards Noah's earrings.
"Yeah." Noah replied as he took a sip from his water bottle.
"Then have you heard about the dragon which was defeated by the first blackthorn gym leader?" The man asked while he kept on taking glances towards Noah's earrings.
"I heard that the first gym leader defeated a powerful dragon Pokemon but it was not mentioned which Pokemon it was." Noah wasn't sure if he was not informed enough or if it was the same for all people.
"Heh, they won't write what really happened into the history books, they're scared." The man scoffed as he took out a gourd from his robe and gulped down the content inside it with no hesitation.
'Alcohol?' Noah only saw these types of gourds when he was watching one piece.
The man stopped drinking as he sighed in satisfaction and wiped the the alcohol which was all over his mouth using his robes.
"Listen close young man." His expression turned serious.
"Long long ago, during the time when people and Pokemon were still bound by friendship and not their pokeballs, there was a certain woman in the town of blackthorn who always practiced a ritual at a lake near blackthorn city."
"No one knew why she did this and some accused her of worshipping evil and she was ostracized by the people."
"During the ritual she always held onto a single dragon fang which when asked she said was obtained from her kingdra."
"She was a mysterious lady appearing out of nowhere one day and moved into our town."
"She didn't seem to be of humble birth and she had a huge mansion in the outskirts of the town which was very close to the lake."
"She was a widow and she had a newborn child which died exactly an year after she moved in."
"And it was during one of her rituals that this happened."
"Although most people didn't really care some of them who were rather interested in gossiping spread the story of her sacrifing her children for wealth."
"And you have to know that during those times people were extreme believers of superstition and one day after discussing the issue over and over again, they decided to put her house on fire with her inside."
"During those times the first gym leader was only a teenager who wanted to impress the town girls so he charged into the raging fire saying that he will slay her himself."
Blackthorn's face became pale as some traces of fright could be seen.
"How stupid he was if only he stayed back!" The man spat out his words with a mix of emotions.
"The moment he stepped inside he saw that wretched woman standing on the steps with a wide smile as she saw him approach her."
"She was extremely beautiful with her long silky blue hair and blood red eyes but that still didn't stop him from killing her."
"If he had looked closer he would have that the woman was holding the said dragon fang even though it didn't look like one and an unborn fetus in her other hand."
"It was still dripping with fresh blood as the cries of children were resounding throughout the mansion."
"The gym leader blinded by his quest for fame didn't really py attention to detail as he plunged the sword in his hand into the woman's heart."
A suffocating silence enveloped the surrounding as Noah felt a shiver down his spine as he imagined an unborn fetus.
Blackthorn held his open palms closer to his face as his eyes were widened in fear.
"No, saying that he didn't notice would be misleading, it was almost as if he was being manipulated."
"He did not know what happened after that but when he came to his senses he found himself in his late twenties with a family and a son by his side."
"He was confused and lost and he wanted answers."
"He asked around for any information about what happened that day and he was shocked when he recieved the answers of the unfamiliar people who introduced themselves as his friends."
"No such thing happened in the last few decades."
"That was the answers that he recieved and this pushed him to the edge and he only found comfort within his own family."
"But something was wierd, the woman he married looked eerily similar to someone he knew but he can't recall who they were."
"His son was a handsome young man who was pretty popular in his town."
Blackthorn stopped for a moment as Noah passed him his water bottle.
He took huge gulps to calm himself down.
"He slowly accepted the fact that he may have lost his memories and returned to his old self."
"But he did not know when he developed a fascination with the dragon fang which was supposed to be his family heirloom."
"He often took it with no one knowing and a voice in his head would lead him towards a lake near the town."
"From there onwards he would chant the things that were being told to him by the voice and he would do the ritual with his consent."
"He was in absolute fascination by what happens when the ritual ended as the image of the dragon flew towards the sky."
"He did everything the voice told some which he felt bad for and some he regretted deeply...."
"He did not realise the consequences for his actions would come quickly as his town was burned down by his own son."
"Do you know what his son told the man?"
Blackthorn's voice was hitched and he seems to be tearing up.
"You did a great job, as I calculated newborns are the most pure souls obtainable and that would help me achieve my goals."
"YES! THAT WASN'T A DRAGON FANG, IT WAS MADE FROM CHILDREN NOAH! POOR KIDS THAT I KILLED WITH MY OWN HANDS EVEN MY DAUGHTER!" Blackthorn screamed at Noah's face as he seems to be in the verge of insanity.
Blackthorn's quick change of emotions creeped Noah out.
"He had no emotion on his face as if this was an experiment."
"The same day he left with his mother."
"Then I remembered that was the same woman I stabbed."
P
"That day I realised that I had already fallen into insanity."
"I couldn't take it anymore..."
"I...I...don't know how to repent for my sins."
The man curled up into a ball in shame.
Noah was speechless, he did not know what to say.
He had already speculated that this man was the ghost of the first gym leader but he never expected such a story behind it.
"There was no dragon, it was all a lie fabricated by my family."
He raised his head and looked towards Noah.
"I can't take it anymore."
"I created this place thinking I would be forgiven but NO! I can still hear their wails every single moment."
Blackthorn slowly stood up and pressed a pendant again Noah's chest.
"This is the real one, the one used by clair is an actual dragon fang."
Blackthorn face showed some hesitation and he finally sighed and asked Noah.
"I know this is selfish but I can't take it anymore, Noah please for this already dead old man would you grant him a bit of peace in his afterlife?" Blackthorn asked with some hope.
"Sure why not?" Noah did not know why but he felt like leaving this here may cause him future troubles.
He received it and carefully inspected everything to the very last detail.
The pendant was pure white in colour and it had a circular shape with golden engravings of an unknown language around its edges.
But if one looked close enough pained and frightening faces of newborns would be seen on the flat surface and their vengeful wails could also be heard.
It was the size of Noah's palms and a silver chain was connected to it.
'Unown language again.' Noah more or less knew the perpetrator behind this.
'The creator's shadow,
The incarnation of unholy,
The forbidden and forgotten,
The one who resides in emptiness.'
Noah read these words as his expression soured.
'Not only do they have a bad naming sense,
They make it seems like their god is actually the bad guy, no wonder these guys aren't popular.'Noah held in his laughter and wore it around his neck.
'May Arceus protect from evil.' He prayed in his heart.
However at this moment warm sunlight pervading in the distance caused Noah to ask Blackthorn: "We reached the holy lands?"
"No." Blackthorn replied.
"There's no need for you to go there as there is nothing that will interest you, right now we are on a tunnel which takes us to the route towards newbark town." Blackthorn continued as he turned around and approached the water.
'I wanted to challenge the gym though.' Noah sighed as lapras finally swam out from the the cave.
"Remember Noah, don't despair no matter what happens." A voice resounded behind him.
'Sure.' Noah knew the man had left but he still looked behind him.
And to no one's suprise blackthorn was nowhere to be seen.
Noah held up the pendant in his arms and thought: 'If what he said is correct it can be used as an alarm clock.'
Noah was serious about this.

Dragon holy land:
An old man was sitting in the grass with a dragonite by his side.
He had a face fulled expectations as he took glances all around him.
He seems to be waiting for someone.
And he didn't have to wait much only about half a day.
He immediately turned around as he heard footsteps.
A person wearing a purple robe adorned with unown symbols appeared from the bushes.
The moment they came face to face the person wearing the robe removed her hood revealing a beautiful woman with silky long blue hair and blood red eyes.
"I hope you didn't fail." Her face was filled with utter disgust as she looked towards the man who once almost killed her.
"I didn't." He replied and that was enough for her as she started to leave.
"Already leaving?" Blackthorn scoffed and asked.
The woman did not reply as she kept on walking.
"You know, that boy is a kind one, I don't think he deserves such a fate." Blackthorn spoke again.
The woman stopped and turned around as she asked in ridicule.
"Kind one? He ripped off the face of one of the most beloved woman of our messiah. And what do you know about that kid? He exists because of the mercy of our messiah."
"The same one who took over my son's body and made me kill my own daughter?" Blackthorn seems to be holding in his laughter.
"That was necess-" The woman tried to retort but was met with a dragon claw right infront of her face.
But unfortunately for Blackthorn a certain ice bird was protecting the woman and his dragonite fell the moment he approached the woman.
'Articuno? Haven't seen it in a while.' Blackthorn stood up with a smile.
"So you cooperating with us was a bait to call me out?" The woman asked as she gained some distance.
"You already knew right?" Blackthorn's smile widened as he stroked his long moustache.
"Ofcourse we knew, we aren't dumb." The woman replied as dragonite slowly stood up.
"They send me here so a loose end like you could be resolved." She said calmly as she took out some pokeball.
Dragonite had some injuries on her body as she started to pant.
"It seems you were getting rusty girl hahaha!"
Blackthorn laughed as he tossed a berry towards his dragonite.
Both sides were ready as a huge battle ensued.
Later that day a news would spread that would shock the entire johto region.
Dragon's Den was destroyed by a secret cult.
A corpse of an articuno was discovered upon further research.
