Chapter 3: Chapter:3
"I didn't expect it to be Charmander!"
Satoshi was pleasantly surprised.
Charmander, a fire-type Pokémon, was one of the three starter Pokémon in the Kanto Region. As a starter, it had tremendous potential and a fast growth rate, making it one of Satoshi's favorite Pokémon.
The reason was simple—its final evolution was Charizard.
Charizard was both powerful and strikingly handsome, making it a fan favorite in any world. More importantly, Charizard was one of the extremely rare Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution, and not just one, but two different forms!
To Satoshi's knowledge, there were only two Pokémon in the world with dual Mega Evolutions, and Charizard was one of them. Its potential and strength were undeniable.
And now, Charmander had become his starter Pokémon.
In his previous life, Satoshi had gone out of his way to obtain a Charmander, knowing how strong it was. However, by the time he acquired one, the game had already progressed significantly, and his Charmander was far behind.
But this time, it was the first day of the server opening, and he had received a Charmander right from the start. Even better, it was his favorite Pokémon.
"Professor Oak, can I open the Poké Ball now and see my starter Pokémon?"
Satoshi couldn't hide his excitement and wanted to see his Charmander immediately.
"Of course. It's already your Pokémon—open it and take a look," Professor Oak replied with a kind smile, mistaking Satoshi's enthusiasm for the awe of someone seeing a Pokémon for the first time.
"Come out, Charmander!"
Satoshi took the Poké Ball and tossed it into the air.
As the Poké Ball opened and a white light flashed, a small figure appeared on the ground.
It was a small dinosaur-like creature with blue eyes, an orange body, and a cream-colored belly and tail. The most striking feature was the flame burning brightly on its tail—a flame said to reflect the Pokémon's health and emotions.
"Kawawa"
Charmander looked up at Satoshi, calling out softly before waddling over to examine its new Trainer.
Immediately, the Power of the Evergreen activated, and Satoshi could feel Charmander's emotions—joy and curiosity.
"Charmander, we'll be partners from now on."
Satoshi crouched down with a smile and gently patted Charmander's head.
Thanks to the Power of the Evergreen, Charmander could sense the kindness and excitement in Satoshi's heart. The little Pokémon narrowed its eyes happily, clearly enjoying the affectionate touch.
"Chenxi, you've bonded with Charmander so quickly. It seems I made the right choice giving it to you," Professor Oak remarked warmly. "Here's your Pokédex. Take it, and you can check Charmander's details."
Satoshi accepted the Pokédex without hesitation. After all, it was something every player received.
However, in this game, the mass-produced Pokédex that players were given only displayed basic details, such as a Pokémon's name and level. For attributes, habitats, and skills, players had to discover that information themselves.
In his previous life, Satoshi had learned that the true Pokédex, held by native Trainers known as "Pokédex Holders," contained detailed information about Pokémon. Players could only obtain these authentic versions by completing highly specific and hidden tasks—and even then, very few succeeded.
Therefore, Satoshi didn't expect much from the Pokédex he received. But when he opened it and scanned Charmander, he was in for a shock.
[Name: Charmander
Attribute: Fire
Ability: Blaze (Increases power of fire-type moves by 1.5× in critical moments)
Level: 5
Potential: Quasi-Elite
Held Item: None
Skills: Scratch, Growl, Flare Blitz
Habitat: Lives in mountains and caves].
Satoshi: "???"
This… this was no mass-produced Pokédex! It was a real Pokédex!
"Professor Oak, this Pokédex…"
"Satoshi, you're a smart man."
Before Satoshi could finish his question, Professor Oak interrupted with a knowing smile.
The implication was clear: Don't ask, don't tell. Keep it to yourself.
Satoshi understood immediately. If he acted clueless, there was no risk of the Pokédex being taken back.
He smiled and decided not to press the matter further.
No matter why he had received a real Pokédex—whether it was due to the Favor of the World or something else—it was clearly a stroke of luck. There was no point dwelling on it when he could use it to his advantage.
"By the way, Professor Oak, what's this skill Flare Blitz?"
"You're lucky. Flare Blitz is a genetic move, also known as an egg move. It means that one of Charmander's parents knew this move, and it was passed down to it at birth. It's a very powerful skill."
A genetic move!
Satoshi was ecstatic. Not only had he received a Charmander—one of the three rare starters—but it also came with such a powerful skill.
This had to be the effect of the Favor of the World, which significantly increased his luck.
And then there was Charmander's potential: Quasi-Elite.
In this world, a Pokémon's potential determined its growth ceiling. A Pokémon with Quasi-Elite potential could naturally reach that level without additional aid.
Of course, this didn't mean Charmander couldn't grow stronger. However, after reaching Quasi-Elite, the experience required to level up would increase exponentially, and it would eventually cap at the Elite level unless certain conditions were met.
In his previous life, Satoshi had heard of a native Trainer who raised a Beedrill with Elite potential to the Champion level—a feat that required immense patience and dedication.
Fortunately, the game also provided rare items that could break through a Pokémon's potential, making further growth possible. These items were difficult to obtain, but Satoshi already knew where to find them.
"Here are 1,000 Alliance Coins and 20 Poké Balls. Take them," Professor Oak said, handing Satoshi a small pouch filled with coins and Poké Balls.
Then, with a knowing look, he added, "Why are you still here? Go on an adventure!"
"Thank you, Professor Oak. I'll be going now."
Satoshi didn't linger. After storing the items in his inventory, he thanked Professor Oak, returned Charmander to its Poké Ball, and left the laboratory.
"First stop—Route 1 north of Pallet Town. Time to level up!"
