Chapter 75: Chapter 75 – The Underwater Ruins
Chapter 75 – The Underwater Ruins
"Long time no see, Asahi. I heard all about what happened in Vermilion City!" Professor Oak greeted.
Asahi had single-handedly taken care of Lt. Surge—something Oak hadn't expected. Initially, he thought Asahi was merely there to gather intel.
"It was just a minor task..." Asahi replied.
He had expected Oak to arrive later, considering he came from Pallet Town. Surprisingly, he got here even faster than Professor Sakuragi, who was in Vermilion City.
Glancing at the Dragonite beside Oak—
Was this his old battle partner?
Sensing Asahi's gaze, Dragonite was about to wave in greeting when it suddenly felt something poking it.
Looking down, it saw Eevee staring at it furiously.
"Vee!"
Eevee pointed at the collapsed sandcastle, demanding an explanation.
First, Gyarados had destroyed its hard work. Now, just as it was about to finish rebuilding, Dragonite had landed and ruined it again.
"Uhh..."
Dragonite scratched its head, realizing its mistake, and looked embarrassed.
"Eevee? It looks well-trained. Is it yours, Asahi?" Oak asked, finally noticing the Pokémon.
With his keen eye, he could immediately tell that this Eevee was exceptional—its level was astonishingly high!
"Yeah, Eevee is my partner." Asahi patted the still-pouting Eevee's head. "And it's pretty strong, too."
With Asahi's reassurance, Eevee finally let go of its frustration.
Dragonite sighed in relief.
Eevee's complaints were just a brief interlude. Soon, Oak turned his attention to Lugia.
In Kanto's history, Lugia, the so-called 'Guardian of the Sea,' had been the subject of countless records and studies. Many scholars had sought after it.
Oak was no exception. That's why he had rushed over as soon as he heard about the discovery.
Asahi handed him the Silver Feather Green had retrieved.
"This was found by Green in the underwater ruins. It belongs to Lugia."
As Oak examined the feather, Asahi had Green recount her underwater findings.
"I believe the ruins were a site of ancient Lugia worship," Asahi concluded. "But since Pokémon research isn't my field, I invited you and Professor Sakuragi. Based on the timing..."
Just as he was speaking, a loud cry rang from the sky.
A Pidgeot carrying a basket approached from the horizon, and inside it, Professor Sakuragi could be seen.
Both Dragonair and Gyarados are Pokémon capable of moving underwater, and as for Gardevoir, its invisible psychic power can also function effectively in the water.
"Besides... even if something unexpected happens, don't we still have your Dragonite, Professor Oak?" Asahi said, glancing at the Dragonite nearby.
"Whoo~"
Dragonite patted its chest confidently, assuring everyone that they could count on it.
Hearing this, Professor Oak no longer objected. He had great trust in his partner.
"Alright then, be careful!"
Asahi, now dressed in a diving suit, gave a gesture to Professor Oak and Professor Sakuragi.
Then, holding onto Dragonair, he flipped over and dove into the sea.
The moment he entered the water, Asahi was greeted by a dreamlike sight.
A large school of Magikarp swam past him, while Shellder and Staryu clung to the rocks on the seabed. Groups of Corsola gathered together, basking in the sunlight filtering through the water, looking quite cheerful.
He even caught a glimpse of a Lapras elegantly gliding through the distance, its fins moving gracefully.
Seeing the underwater world for the first time, Asahi felt an entirely new kind of beauty.
Just then, Dragonite made a big splash as it plunged into the sea.
Its massive body sent ripples through the water, startling the Corsola basking in the sun, making them scatter in all directions.
Dragonite, however, didn't seem to notice. Once in the water, it stretched out comfortably as if returning home. Despite its chubby body, it moved with surprising agility.
Asahi couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth—how should he put it? This Dragonite was... kind of ruining the atmosphere.
"Whoo~"
Dragonair nudged Asahi with its head and released a shimmering energy field that enveloped him, isolating him from the seawater.
Breathing in the humid, sea-scented air, Asahi lay on Dragonair's back, giving it a light pat before waving at Dragonite.
"Let's go!"
Dragonair nodded and swayed its body, diving deeper into the sea.
Dragonite quickly followed.
The Pokémon around them scattered as soon as they saw Dragonair and Dragonite approaching.
In just a few minutes, Asahi arrived at the ruins that Green had mentioned.
The ruins before him were not a single building but an entire complex. Most of it had collapsed, leaving only a peculiar-looking temple in the center still intact.
Taking out his communicator, he adjusted the settings.
"Hello? Professor Oak, can you hear me?"
"Shhh... Yes, I can hear you! Shhh..." Professor Oak's voice crackled through the communicator.
The signal wasn't great—seawater blocked most of it—but at least it was still functional.
"I'm in front of the ruins now. I'll activate the video feed in a moment, so keep an eye on the transmission."
As he spoke, Asahi switched his communicator to recording mode, securing it to his chest to capture everything ahead. Then, with Dragonair and Dragonite by his side, he swam toward the ruins.
At the entrance, the doors had already been opened—likely from Green's previous visit.
Following the open path, Asahi entered the ruins.
