Pokemon: With Title System

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: A Small Kanto Shock for Kiri

Chapter 68: A Small Kanto Shock for Kiri

With the League's security full of holes due to heavy infiltration, Asahi knew it was only a matter of time before Team Rocket discovered his identity.

There was nothing he could do about it—Gardevoir was his strongest Pokémon, and he couldn't just stop using her out of fear of exposure.

However, just because his identity would be revealed eventually didn't mean he should actively expose himself.

Every extra day he stayed hidden gave him an edge over Team Rocket.

Asahi shared his thoughts with Lance.

Lance considered for a moment and decided to temporarily detain these Team Rocket members in the same location where they had locked up the three captured agents from Celadon City.

"Are you sure the League is okay with this?" Asahi asked, raising an eyebrow.

This time, it wasn't just three nobodies—it was Lt. Surge, a major Team Rocket officer. Shouldn't he be locked up in an official League prison?

Lance spread his hands. "Celadon City alone captured so many Team Rocket members that the League's prison is already full. Locking Surge up somewhere else is just a necessary measure given the circumstances."

Hearing that, Asahi gave Lance a surprised look.

"Lance... I never expected you, of all people, to pull something like this."

But this was great news for him—he wasn't about to complain.

He gratefully nodded toward Lance. "Thanks."

Lance shook his head. "Compared to what you've done, this is nothing." Then, he asked, "Now that this operation is over, what are you planning to do next?"

Asahi took a moment to reflect on everything he had done since joining the International Police.

From Mt. Moon to the Celadon Game Corner to Vermilion Gym, in just one month, he had inflicted more damage on Team Rocket than the League had managed in the past several years.

"Wow... Have I really done that much?"

Asahi couldn't help but feel proud of his overwhelming sense of justice.

"Still... I've been working non-stop. Taking a break shouldn't be too much to ask, right?"

With that thought in mind, Asahi looked at Lance and answered seriously—

"I'm taking a vacation!"

Lt. Surge's Arrest Sends Shockwaves

The news of Lt. Surge's arrest spread rapidly.

Paldea Region – Levincia City

After an entire day of streaming, Kiri waved her oversized sleeves and struck a cute pose in front of the camera.

"Shocking the world with an electric web! That wraps up today's episode of 'Kiri's Electric Gossip'~"

"Thanks for tuning in! We broke another viewer record today!"

"See you all tomorrow, same time—"

Just as she was about to sign off, she noticed the chat flooding with messages.

At first, Kiri thought it was a technical glitch—but after checking, she realized it wasn't.

The messages themselves, however, were what confused her.

"Kanto…? Did something huge just happen in Kanto?"

Kiri's curiosity was piqued, and even her Magneton-shaped hair accessories tilted in confusion.

"Check the news!"

"Kiri-chan, read the Kanto news!"

Following the chat's suggestions, Kiri quickly opened a news website and navigated to the Kanto region section.

A massive headline took up one-third of the screen—

[Breaking News: Lt. Surge, Gym Leader of Vermilion Gym, Arrested for Smuggling—Currently Under Investigation.]

Below the headline, a smaller subheading read:

"Sources suggest his arrest may be linked to the criminal organization Team Rocket."

Kiri gasped, covering her mouth with her oversized sleeves, eyes wide in shock.

"Lt. Surge… got arrested?!"

In that instant, she recalled a Super Chat (SC) message from a viewer named "Slacking Off at Work Today" earlier that day:

"Just easily defeated Vermilion Gym's Electric-type Gym Leader, Lt. Surge. Felt kinda underwhelming."

…Could it have been him?

A sudden wave of Kanto shock hit both Kiri and the little Magnemite-shaped hair accessories on her head.

If she had realized it, then the chat had definitely caught on too.

The comment section exploded—

"I sincerely apologize for doubting the guy who challenged a Gym at dawn. Turns out he was actually 'taking down' the Gym."

"SC was sent at midnight. The guy was gone by morning."

"Yeah, I also think Surge was kinda mid. (Insert smug emoji)"

The sudden surge in engagement caused Kiri's viewer count to double, drawing in newcomers eager to join the chaos.

In no time, "Felt kinda underwhelming" replaced "Good morning, afternoon, and evening—Hello, Ciao~!" as the new catchphrase of Kiri's stream.

Watching the madness unfold, Kiri felt conflicted.

Sure, it was great that her viewership had skyrocketed—but none of it had anything to do with her own content.

Her mind kept drifting to that mysterious viewer—"Slacking Off at Work Today."

Just from that casual, perfectly timed SC, she could tell—this guy had an insane sense for entertainment. In fact, he might be just as good, if not better, than her!

Should she… invite him for a collab?

But… would he even agree?

Kiri let out a dramatic sigh, resting her chin on her sleeve-covered hands.

"Ahh, what an electrifying dilemma~!"

A Well-Deserved Vacation (and a Convenient Expense Report)

After telling Lance about his vacation plans, Asahi took Green to a new hotel.

Not the old one.

That place had been used to hold prisoners for too long, and since it was so close to Vermilion Gym, there was a good chance Team Rocket investigators would check it out soon.

So, Asahi booked a luxury ocean-view suite instead—the kind that could be reimbursed as a "work expense."

---

A Night of Board Games & Unfair Luck

In the hotel's living room, Asahi, Green, Eevee, Gardevoir, Jigglypuff, and Clefairy were playing a Pokémon adventure board game.

Asahi rolled a 3, landing his Caterpie directly onto a Victreebel trap.

His expression darkened.

"I give up. Just end me already."

The board had six spaces: three were good, two were neutral, and only one was bad—and somehow, he landed on the bad one.

This game was rigged.

Meanwhile, Green rolled a 1, landing perfectly in an evolution stone cave, gaining a Water Stone to evolve her Shellder into a Cloyster.

Her face lit up with joy.

Asahi went silent for a moment, deep in thought.

"Maybe I should catch a Togepi to change my luck?"

It didn't seem like a bad idea.

He immediately sent Lance a message asking where to find wild Togepi in Kanto.

Then, he turned his attention to the rewards he got from taking down Lt. Surge.

---

Asahi examined his three options:

1. A mass-producible Z-Crystal.

2. The Lightning Plate.

3. The Power Restraint Device from Regieleki.

The third option worried him.

Since he didn't know where the system pulled these rewards from, what if choosing the Restraint Device meant it was ripped directly off Regieleki's body?

That would absolutely cause the legendary Pokémon to go berserk, and if innocent people got hurt—that would be on him.

So, to be safe, he picked the Lightning Plate, which was already a proven power boost with no risk of collateral damage.

…There was just one issue.

He didn't have an Electric-type Pokémon.

Looking at Gardevoir, who had just lost the game right after him, an idea struck him.

He rummaged through his bag and pulled out a TM for Thunderbolt, handing it to her.

"Wanna give it a try?"

Gardevoir tilted her head but took the TM, pressing it to her forehead.

A faint hum filled the air as the data transferred.

Moments later, golden sparks flickered between her fingertips.

…Tiny, but functional.

TMs only taught moves—they didn't automatically master them. Without training, the move's power would be suboptimal.

But Asahi didn't need raw power right now.

"Remember this level of strength," he instructed.

Then, he handed her the Lightning Plate.

The moment Gardevoir touched it—

BZZT!

A thick bolt of electricity crackled wildly from her hand, instantly filling the room with golden arcs.

Green nearly jumped out of her seat.

She stared at Asahi in shock. "What are you doing?!"

Asahi quickly gestured for her to relax, then activated telepathic communication with Gardevoir.

"So... does the Lightning Plate feel different from the Psychic Plate?"

Gardevoir nodded, explaining through their link:

The Psychic Plate was gentle, steadily amplifying her psychic power like a refined amplifier.

The Lightning Plate, however, was the complete opposite.

It felt wild—like a raging power source that forcefully surged into any Electric-type move.

"That makes sense. Electricity is inherently chaotic."

A calm electric current wouldn't even feel like real electricity.

If the Plates represent the purest essence of their elements, then this reaction was perfectly logical.

Still, Asahi had one more question—

"Maybe it's because you're not an Electric-type. I should test it on an actual Electric Pokémon someday."

Hearing that, Gardevoir glanced at Eevee, who was playing with dice nearby.

Asahi immediately shut that idea down.

"NO. Not Eevee. Absolutely NOT."
