Pokémon: Volcarona Eggs Found at the Start

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The First Battle

Chapter 8: The First Battle

"What kind of Pokémon is that? I've never seen it before."

"If you don't even recognize it, go back and retake five years of college entrance exams and three more years of mock tests. That's a Larvesta."

"I really haven't seen it before."

"Of course, this is a Pokémon even rarer than pseudo-legendaries. It's no surprise that a clueless rookie like you doesn't know."

"Say that again?"

"You wanna get scolded?"

"But isn't this Larvesta way too big?"

"Yeah, this Larvesta is absurdly large."

Many passersby pointed at Jiang Yu, with some even taking out their phones to snap pictures and post online.

"Family, anyone know? The biggest Larvesta sighting in history."

"It looks oddly delicious."

———

However, this wasn't something Jiang Yu was worried about. Along the way, it was actually Larvesta who was comforting him.

Larvesta: "It's so tough being me..."

Under Larvesta's guidance, Jiang Yu, though unable to fully accept reality yet, at least faced it.

"This ice cream looks good. Want some?"

[I want it! I want it!]

"Boss, one regular version and one Pro Max."

Boss: "?"

Wow, this boss is really straightforward—serving up ice cream in a bucket.

Since the bucket-sized ice cream was too big for Larvesta's tiny claws to hold, Jiang Yu had to hand over a smaller one while hugging the bucket himself.

Larvesta grabbed the small ice cream and immediately swallowed it whole.

Jiang Yu: "?"

With Larvesta in his arms, they walked and ate together, unknowingly arriving at the Pokémon Battle Park.

Upon seeing the battle park, Jiang Yu hesitated. While he did long for battles, it might worsen Larvesta's condition.

"Let's go, Larvesta. Let's check out somewhere else."

Just as he was about to turn away, Larvesta nudged Jiang Yu forward.

[Look, look!]

Larvesta's voice echoed in Jiang Yu's mind.

The two entered the park in an odd posture.

Inside, the battlefield stretched vast and open, with a few ponds but no trees—clearly designed for battles.

Every battle zone was packed with spectators, as bursts of fire, jets of water, and the sounds of clashing bodies filled the air. The cheers of the crowd and commands of trainers echoed throughout.

Jiang Yu took a deep breath. Every scene deeply resonated with him. This was the world of Pokémon. No one could resist the thrill of a heated battle, and he was no exception.

Sensing Jiang Yu's emotions, Larvesta took a deep breath and boldly announced:

[Everyone here is trash!]

All Pokémon nearby turned to look at Larvesta in unison. Their trainers followed suit, shifting their gazes toward Jiang Yu.

Larvesta didn't use telepathy but instead declared its presence in the language of Pokémon.

Thanks to Jiang Yu's Viridian Power, he understood Larvesta's meaning instantly. His mouth twitched—so this was Larvesta's personality?

"This Larvesta is huge."

"Looks like a pretty strong one."

A crowd of trainers quickly gathered around, eager to battle, but Jiang Yu refused them one by one.

"I'll take you on! Go, Pidgey!"

"?"

A huge question mark flashed through Jiang Yu's mind as he saw Larvesta had already stepped onto the battlefield.

"What are you waiting for? Get over here! What's with this trainer?" Pidgey's trainer shouted.

Jiang Yu sighed helplessly and stepped forward. "You're too mischievous, Larvesta."

He then turned to look at the opponent.

Pokémon: Pidgey

Type: Normal/Flying

Gender: Female

Ability: Keen Eye

Level: 10 (Early Stage)

Potential: Elite

Moves: Tackle, Sand Attack, Gust

"Alright, Larvesta, let's do this!" The anticipation of battle surged within Jiang Yu as he let loose his fighting spirit.

"I'll be the referee," a young man in sportswear, sunglasses, and a mask stepped forward and announced.

"The battle begins!"

"Larvesta, use Ember on Pidgey!"

"Pidgey, use Sand Attack!"

Both trainers issued commands simultaneously.

With a loud bang, a figure shot out from the dust—Pidgey stared at Larvesta in shock.

"Pi-pidgey...?"

Pidgey's trainer was dumbfounded. "You're telling me that's Ember?"

"Oh my god, is that really Ember?"

"If you told me it was Flamethrower, I'd believe it!"

The crowd was stunned. Even the referee lifted his sunglasses slightly, scrutinizing Larvesta closely.

"The release speed of Ember is slow… No, it looks like it's never used it before. But the sheer power… Is this even fair?"

Jiang Yu hadn't expected Larvesta's Ember to be this overwhelming. However, due to inexperience, the move was released too slowly, allowing Pidgey to react in time and block it with Sand Attack, causing an explosion. If it had landed directly, Pidgey wouldn't have stood a chance.

"Larvesta, use String Shot on yourself!"

The crowd gasped.

"This trainer is an idiot."

"What a waste of a Larvesta."

"I'll trade you my Caterpie for your Larvesta. My Caterpie can evolve at level 100. You'd be making bank."

The referee frowned. This Larvesta had a slight speed advantage over Pidgey, but now it's wrapping itself up? What's this trainer thinking?

"Pidgey, keep using Sand Attack!"

Knowing Larvesta's power, Pidgey's trainer wisely opted to keep reducing its accuracy instead of attacking head-on.

Jiang Yu remained calm.

"Since dodging is impossible, don't dodge. Larvesta, use Quiver Dance!"

Everyone was stunned.

"Q-Q-Quiver Dance?!"

"Are you joking? Quiver Dance is a high-level Bug-type move! How can a Larvesta know it?"

"Go read up on Pokémon, dude."

Even the referee sighed. Guess I overestimated them. Maybe this Larvesta just got lucky meeting such a strange trainer.

But then—

Larvesta started to move gracefully, its large body swaying rhythmically as its energy visibly rose.

The crowd was speechless.

"Unbelievable!!!"

"Pidgey, keep using Sand Attack!"

"Keep using Quiver Dance!"

By the time Larvesta's accuracy had been lowered to its limit, Pidgey's trainer issued the final order.

"Pidgey, use Gust at full power!"

"Larvesta, use Ember!"

A powerful flame shot from Larvesta's mouth, piercing through the gust of wind and striking Pidgey directly.

"Pidgey... Pidgey is unable to battle! The winner is Larvesta!"

The referee hesitated for a moment before making the call.

"Man, your luck is insane," Pidgey's trainer sighed.

Jiang Yu smiled but didn't explain. He walked over to Larvesta, stroked its head, and said, "Well done. Burn off the silk."

Larvesta ignited its body, burning away the sand-covered silk.

"If a move doesn't land, then it's meaningless. Right, Larvesta?"

[Of course.]

"Let's head home, or Mom will worry."

"ALERT! ALERT!"

"All units, prepare for combat!"

"A giant bird Pokémon has been detected over the capital… based on energy readings, it's suspected to be… a Legendary!"

———

Golden flakes floated from the sky, mixed with radiant feathers.

Jiang Yu stretched out his hand, letting the golden particles pass through his fingers.

[Ho-Oh's Blessing: Effect Unknown, contains warm fire energy.]

[Mystic Feather: Purpose Unknown, contains warm fire energy.]

"Ho-Oh? I never expected to encounter you like this."

Jiang Yu didn't notice as a golden feather quietly merged into Larvesta's body.

[This should be enough. I've given it a great gift. If that guy's emissary were to die in my domain, that would be troublesome indeed.]
