Pokemon: These Players are too annoying!

Chapter 73: Vermillion city

Well, what happened when the players crashed into Team Rocket's balloon?

What a silly question! Of course, Team Rocket got defeated and blasted off again!

... I'm not going to say that I was too lazy to keep writing.

After driving off Team Rocket, the players got back into their vehicles and headed in the direction they believed Red was going.

A.J stood there bewildered, watching them leave, feeling his leg being nudged by his Pokémon.

The Pokémon immediately started crying and clung tightly to him, surprising him a bit, but he hugged them back.

He looked in the direction of the players, having a few thoughts about them.

"I didn't even get a chance to thank them... they risked their lives to save my Pokémon, after all."

... Truly admirable. (Buddy, they don't deserve your admiration at all.)

A.J glanced at his Pokémon and made up his mind. He grabbed his backpack and took down the training grounds he had set up.

"If I just stay in one place to train, I won't improve! A trainer has to go on adventures and gain experience!"

And so, he set off, with the light on the path illuminating his journey!

... Alright, what am I even writing? This was supposed to be Red's journey, wasn't it?

"We've arrived in Vermillion City!!" Leaf cheered, raising both hands to the sky with joy.

The entire walk had been pretty boring, so she spent most of the time teasing Red and Misty.

What about Brock? He was as stiff as a rock—no matter how much she teased him, he didn't react, which was a drag.

So arriving in the city felt like a relief, finally a place to rest!

"..."

"Come on, why the rush? You can challenge the Gym tomorrow~" Leaf said cheerfully, placing a hand on Red's shoulder.

'Why is she so happy today?' Red thought, confused as he looked at Leaf.

"Leaf! Come shopping with me!" Misty waved to Leaf.

"Coming, coming~" Leaf happily skipped over to Misty.

But before leaving, she gave Red a wink.

"...?"

"It seems like she's signaling something to you?" Brock said to Red.

Well, neither of them had ever been in a serious relationship, so of course they wouldn't pick up on her hints.

Red took out his wallet to check.

'13,000 pokedollars.'

That's quite a lot, mostly earned from trainer battles.

Usually, there was no need for them to pay up, but they often said it would be embarrassing not to.

Thanks to that, Red had quite a bit of money.

"We're out of potions and other sprays, we'll have to stop by the shop," Brock said after checking his bag, turning to Red.

"Want to come?"

"..."

"Honestly, all you need to do is nod, no need to talk." (Wait, does Red even talk?)

So the two headed to the shop.

But something felt off...

There were a lot of people passing by, and even a few Officer Jennys were talking over their radios.

Something was definitely wrong...

"Uh, Officer Jenny? Is something going on?" Brock asked as he approached her.

Jenny turned around, surprised to see the tanned man.

"Aren't you the Rock-type Gym Leader from Pewter City?! What are you doing here? Are you part of the reinforcements?"

'Reinforcements? This sounds really bad!'

"My younger brother is taking over as Gym Leader now, I'm just traveling. But what's happening here?"

"...Well, you see..." Officer Jenny began explaining.

The power plant was experiencing some serious issues. For some reason, the output of electricity had skyrocketed, nearly causing an explosion.

When some people went to investigate, they found a group of Team Rocket members gathering and discussing something.

A Pokémon battle broke out, but unfortunately, Team Rocket managed to escape just in time.

That's why many police officers and even soldiers were gathering here, because they were sure Team Rocket was planning something at the power plant.

"The power plant is currently shut down, but electricity is still being discharged. There's a high chance that an Electric-type Pokémon is inside."

After explaining everything, Brock rubbed his chin thoughtfully before pulling out a notebook.

Red curiously glanced at the cover.

'Legends of Legendary Pokémon?'

Legendary Pokémon? That sounds awesome!

[Does the host not know about Legendary Pokémon?] The system suddenly popped up, speaking to Red.

"..."

[Well, I can't blame you. Just know that Legendary Pokémon are incredibly rare and powerful enough to destroy an entire city.]

"...!"

While Red was focusing on the system, Brock flipped to the right page and examined it closely.

The book described a Pokémon with yellow feathers, a bird with a bad temper.

There were no photos, but it had been proven to exist.

It was known by everyone as...

Zapdos.

Both girls had finished buying what they needed and were about to head back when they noticed the police officers and soldiers nearby.

"What's going on here?" They exchanged glances.

Suddenly, two hands landed on their shoulders, startling both of them.

"Hey, you two. It's pretty dangerous out here right now. I suggest you head to the Pokémon Center or another safe place."

The voice was deep, and the grip on their shoulders was firm and steady.

Misty and Leaf turned around to see who it was.

The man was muscular, dressed in military attire, with blond hair and a rather stern-looking face.

Misty immediately recognized him.

"Lieutenant Surge!"

"Oh! The little Magikarp!"

"Who are you calling Magikarp??"

The two girls responded to each other, and Leaf, feeling a bit confused, asked Misty,

"Um... who is he?"

"Lieutenant Surge, he's also the Gym Leader of Vermillion City," Misty introduced him.

"Hello there, just call me Surge. I've been out of the army for a while now," he said, scratching his head.

"And you, why are you here?" Surge turned to ask Misty.

"I'm traveling."

"Traveling? You're a Gym Leader, and you just left everything to go on a trip?!"

"Lieutenant Surge, I have three older sisters managing the Gym, and besides, I'm young, so I want to have some fun!"

"... Well, that's fine, but I advise you both to leave this city. There's a high chance of a big battle happening," Surge warned.

"Why's that?"

"We've just discovered a large number of Team Rocket members near the power plant."

'No wonder it feels a bit empty,' Leaf and Misty thought.

"Right now, we're heading into the power plant to check what those scumbags are after, of course, in a group."

"Let me join!" Misty suddenly raised her hand, catching Leaf a bit off guard.

"What are you thinking?! Don't you see how dangerous that is?!"

"I'm a Gym Leader, and Team Rocket is a serious threat that needs to be dealt with immediately. This is my responsibility," Misty said, as if there was no better excuse.

"Hahaha! Good spirit, Magikarp girl!"

"Stop calling me that!"

"So, are you joining too?" Surge asked Leaf.

"Uh... no—"

"The reward is about 100,000 pokedollars."

"I'm in."

Anything else can wait, but money? I'm not passing that up!
