POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The First Dark Force Outside Pallet Town

Ash and Pikachu continued their journey toward Tokiwa City. As Ash thought back to his previous experiences from the anime, he realized that he had yet to encounter many significant events. In the anime, he had met a group of Spearows, which led to a hard-fought battle that helped him bond with Pikachu. Afterward, he met Misty, the first heroine of his journey, and even encountered the legendary Pokémon, Ho-Oh.

However, Ash felt that things were going to be different this time. He didn't think he'd meet Misty because, unlike the anime, he hadn't provoked a Spearow yet. In the show, Ash's troublesome behavior and lack of cooperation with Pikachu caused them to clash with a Spearow, which then led to a large group of Spearows chasing them. During the chase, Ash had jumped off a waterfall to escape, only to find himself face-to-face with a Gyarados, which led to his meeting with Misty.

"Although I may not meet Misty, there's still a chance I could see Ho-Oh, right?" Ash thought aloud. Despite his uncertainty, Ash couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope. Ho-Oh was a legendary Pokémon, often described as the ruler of the skies, capable of reviving the dead and bringing life back to the world. Ash wondered if it could also resurrect humans—though he wasn't sure, he thought that it might be possible.

Ash knew that Pikachu, while powerful, was no match for a legendary Pokémon like Ho-Oh. Still, it would be a blessing to witness such an incredible creature in person.

"Well, I guess I'll just let things unfold," Ash decided, shaking his head. This wasn't the anime world or the game world; it was the real world, and everything was out of his control.

"Pika?!" Pikachu's sudden, alarmed cry brought Ash out of his thoughts. He turned quickly to see Pikachu staring intently at something behind him, a hint of fear in his expression.

"What's going on?!" Ash asked, sensing something was wrong. He could hear a series of noises approaching, and from the direction they were coming from, it was clear that something was rapidly closing in on them.

"Pikapi—!" Pikachu tugged at Ash's hat urgently, signaling him to look behind.

Ash spun around, and his heart skipped a beat. His eyes widened in shock as he saw a massive "dark cloud" approaching in the sky, a swarm of creatures closing in fast. It was a large group of Spearows.

"Spearow?!" Ash could barely believe his eyes. Although they were nearly a kilometer away, Ash's keen eyesight helped him identify the source of the disturbance. It was unmistakably Spearow, the notorious and aggressive Pokémon.

Spearows were known for their reckless and violent nature. While they typically attacked to protect their territory, this behavior made them a nightmare for many Trainers. While a single Spearow wasn't particularly dangerous, encountering a group of them was a different story. Spearows were social creatures, and if one of them felt threatened, it would call for backup, leading to an organized assault. This was why Spearow had earned its reputation as one of the deadliest Pokémon.

"Let's go!" Ash shouted, immediately starting to run. He had no desire to provoke a group of Spearows, and from the looks of it, they were already chasing him and Pikachu.

Ash wasn't sure when he had angered the Spearows, but he had recently fought a Pidgey with Pikachu. Could it be that the Spark attack from Pikachu had alerted the Spearows? Perhaps they thought an outsider Pokémon had invaded their territory.

Pikachu, too, felt the looming danger. Having spent time in the wild, Pikachu was familiar with Spearow's aggressive nature and had no desire to face a group of them. The situation was becoming dire, as the distance between them and the approaching Spearows was shrinking rapidly. Spearows could fly, and Ash only had two legs to run with.

"How did this happen? What's going on?!" Ash muttered, glancing over his shoulder as the Spearows continued their pursuit. The noise of their wings flapping grew louder with every second.

"Could it be...?" Ash suddenly had a realization. The earlier encounter with Pidgey, the Thunder Shock, and the noise caused by Pikachu's electric attacks must have triggered the Spearows' territorial instincts. They had probably mistaken Pikachu's Spark for an intrusion.

"What a mistake!" Ash cursed himself. He had known that the area was Spearow territory, but he had been reckless. Now he was paying the price.

"This wild environment really is dangerous," Ash thought grimly, remembering what Professor Oak had warned him about. Oak had cautioned Ash not to venture too far into the uncharted wilds, but Ash hadn't fully grasped the extent of the danger until now. If this was the level of danger near a human settlement, then places further away from the roads and cities were far more treacherous.

"Lie————!" A high-pitched cry echoed from behind Ash, and he looked over his shoulder in alarm. The fastest Spearow was now within a hundred meters of him. It wouldn't be long before the entire group caught up with them!

"We can't just sit here and wait!" Ash realized that if they didn't act, they would be surrounded and attacked by the Spearows. The best strategy now was to find a place where he could temporarily escape their pursuit and slow them down.

"Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" Ash shouted, making a quick decision.

"Pika———!" Pikachu leapt off Ash's shoulder, gathering electric energy around it. The golden Spark shot forward, striking a Spearow that was about thirty meters away.

The Spearow let out a painful shriek as it fell, smoke billowing from its body. But instead of deterring the other Spearows, the attack only made them angrier and more determined to catch up with Ash and Pikachu.

Ash knew that this attack would provoke the Spearows further, but he had no choice. Being caught would result in a brutal attack from the entire group, and that was a fate he wasn't willing to risk.

"Could this be... the inertia of history?" Ash thought, bewildered. The situation felt strangely familiar, almost like his actions were aligning with the events from the anime.

Suddenly, Ash spotted a cliff waterfall up ahead, an exact replica of the moment in the anime where he had once jumped to escape. It felt as though history was repeating itself, forcing him to follow a predetermined path.

"I don't have time to think about this now!" Ash shook his head, focusing on the immediate danger. He picked Pikachu up, bolted toward the cliff, and jumped.

The water below the cliff rushed upward to meet them.

As they fell, Ash could only hope that, like in the anime, this leap would help them escape the Spearows and lead to a new chapter in their adventure.
