Without a doubt, under the effect of Bellossom's Sleep Powder, the guards and Pokémon that had rushed around the corner were all forced into a deep slumber.

Now, Fujiwara had no backup left and was entirely at Sato's mercy.

"So, besides that freaky Golbat, this guy actually has such a powerful Pokémon, huh? Useless fools."

Seeing his subordinates so easily subdued by the combined efforts of Golbat and Bellossom, Fujiwara's face turned pale with anger. He realized he had truly been cornered by Sato this time.

"Please don't misunderstand, Mr. Sato. I have no ill intent whatsoever. Although my Fujiwara family may not be a noble household in Kanto, we're still not someone a mere civilian trainer like you can afford to provoke. I assure you, if you let me go, I'll let this all slide," he attempted, not answering Sato's questions but instead trying to use his status as a member of Kanto's Fujiwara family to intimidate him.

Of course, faced with the now-defenseless Fujiwara, Sato wasn't about to go easy. First, he knocked the elegant woman unconscious, then dragged Fujiwara into a small storage room off the hallway and stuffed a dirty cloth into his mouth.

Next, Sato stomped his leg down hard, breaking Fujiwara's leg. Caught in terror, Fujiwara finally spilled everything he knew.

In reality, the Fujiwara family in Kanto could only be considered a bottom-tier, second-rate family.

In the Kanto Alliance, their standing was low; they didn't even have a single True Elite trainer, only a pseudo-Elite trainer to keep up appearances.

However, in recent years, the Fujiwara family had gained status by arranging a marriage alliance with Kanto's powerful Sasaki clan, thus securing a cooperative relationship and elevating their position within the Kanto Alliance.

But in truth, though they called themselves partners, the Fujiwaras were merely a small vine clinging to the mighty tree of the Sasakis, effectively acting as their lackeys.

Fujiwara was the third son of the Fujiwara family head, a second son without any claim to the family inheritance. Within the family, he was a notorious playboy, idle and aimless, likely destined to drift through life without purpose.

Because of the marriage alliance between the two families, the Fujiwara family received invitations to gatherings hosted by the Sasaki family.

It was at one of these gatherings that Fujiwara met Alice Sasaki. Captivated by Alice's noble background and stunning beauty, he fell for her at first sight.

Yet, Fujiwara knew his place well. The gap between his status and Alice's was vast, and she had never even acknowledged his presence.

In short, there was no chance for anything to develop between them.

But Fujiwara didn't wallow in self-pity. Learning that Alice admired strong trainers, he decided to work hard in an attempt to close the distance between them.

Abandoning his easy life in the family, he set out on a journey as a trainer.

However, having grown up in luxury, Fujiwara was entirely unprepared for the hardships of a trainer's life. After barely three months, he slunk back to his family, unable to endure the rigors of travel and training.

Still, Fujiwara hadn't come away empty-handed. With the resources his family provided, he managed to train a few decent Pokémon and even earned three Gym Badges.

Though his journey as a trainer had been short, it was enough to impress his circle of wealthy peers, giving him a chance to boast for quite some time. Through this, he even managed to secure a brief conversation with Alice.

Fujiwara swore that his conversation with Alice was the happiest moment of his life.

It was due to his grandly embellished tales of the trainer journey that Alice became fascinated with the world beyond her home, leading to her current attempt at running away.

In short, Alice's decision to run away had a lot to do with Fujiwara's vivid portrayals of how exciting the outside world was.

As her admirer, Fujiwara kept tabs on any news about Alice. When he learned she had indeed run away, he felt a mix of shock and secret delight, knowing this was his chance to spend time with her alone.

In fact, Fujiwara had contributed to Alice's runaway plan. So, after informing his family that he was heading out on another solo journey, he quickly tracked Alice down.

Yet, aware that Alice wanted to travel alone, he didn't reveal himself but instead followed her from a distance.

Although he couldn't travel alongside her, Fujiwara was content just seeing her each day. In his mind, he was her silent knight, protecting her from the shadows.

Thus, he was present yesterday when Sato's Golbat defeated Alice's Charmeleon. Seeing Alice in tears broke his heart, and he desperately wanted to tear Sato apart.

However, Fujiwara knew his own limits. He had once battled Alice, only to witness all six of his Pokémon almost get defeated by her Charmeleon alone.

Now that Alice's Charmeleon had been beaten by Sato's Golbat in a single move, Fujiwara knew he had no chance of winning a straight solo fight against Sato. Instead of acting rashly, he silently marked Sato as a future target, waiting for a chance to get revenge for Alice.

Little did Fujiwara expect that such an opportunity would come so soon. To avoid detection by Alice, he had chosen to depart a bit later and booked a ticket on the St. Louis, bound for Slateport City—the same ship that Sato happened to be on.

The moment he saw Sato's face, Fujiwara's heart raced. He knew that if he could stand up to Sato on Alice's behalf, she might remember him.

There was even a chance that this could bring them closer.

With this possibility in mind, Fujiwara became fired up, his mind racing as he quickly crafted a plan to deal with Sato.

Fujiwara spent a considerable amount of PokeDollars to hire some skilled trainers, planning to ambush Sato after his match. His plan had two main steps.

First, he would engage Sato in conversation to distract him, then launch a surprise attack, all while his hidden employees recorded the battle on camera to create proof of his "heroic" confrontation with Sato, which he would later show Alice.

The second step was for his hired trainers to join the battle once it reached a certain intensity, helping him overwhelm Sato together.

But things quickly went sideways for Fujiwara when Sato unexpectedly made the first move, catching him off guard by sending out not Golbat but Bellossom, foiling Fujiwara's plan to counter Golbat with his Electabuzz.

Moreover, Fujiwara hadn't anticipated that Sato's Bellossom would be so powerful, able to hold off two opponents at once and even crush both Electabuzz and his employee's Ivysaur with ease.

In the end, Fujiwara overestimated the abilities of his hired trainers, who were put to sleep by Sato's combined use of Bellossom and Golbat before they could even fight, leaving him with no hope of success.
