'Thoughts'

------------------

The sun slowly ascended on the horizon; illuminating the small town of Pallet. A Dodrio could be seen preparing its morning call. Today was a monumental day for a couple of lucky children. Not everyday you get your first pokémon after all.

In one household a young boy still dreamt of eternal glory. Of being the best pokémon master. The boy stirred in his sleep. Almost ready to wake up.

"Ash! Are you up yet?" A concerned voice could be heard.

The boy slowly opened his eyes, sat up and looked confused. 'Where am I?'

"Ash Ketchum, you will be late for your pokémon journey!"

'I'm Ash Ketchum?' He went to the bathroom and saw a familiar face. He transmigrated into Ash's body.

After a few minutes he raised his head which contained a wide smile. He achieved what many dreamt of before. Landing in the world of pocket monsters. Filled with excitement, he ran downstairs only to see his mother not being so impressed with him.

"You have five minutes to get to professor Oak's laboratory. I'd run if I were you." Her smile almost seemed to be a threat.

"Yes mom. I'm going, I'm going." Ash quickly strapped on his shoes and ran out.

'Thank you Arceus that I have the memories of Ash. Otherwise I'd be in deep shit. Big time.'

After a couple of minutes of non stop running he finally saw the laboratory. With newly found strength he ran even faster than before. A limo stood beneath the hill on which the main building of the laboratory was located. His childhood rival, Gary was sitting in the car surrounded by young women.

'Yeah, a ten year old child hanging out with older women doesn't scream child endangerment at all.' Ash mused.

"What's up, Ashy boy. You snooze you lose." Gary mocked Ash.

"A king doesn't have to be on time. His subjects await him." Ash said sticking his tongue out.

"A king? It seems someone is delusional." Gary remarked.

"Yes Gary, he is!" His entourage agreed.

"And you're using your grandfather's influence and boasting as if you ever accomplished anything by yourself. Now make way. Loitering is unbecoming of a professor's grandchild." Ash smirked at the shocked look on Gary's face.

Before Gary could blow up Ash entered the laboratory. Professor Oak was waiting for him in front of a machine with three pokéballs laying on it.

"Hello Ash. It was unexpected that you of all people would be late on this special occasion." He remarked

"My alarm clock broke at night. I probably knocked it over when I was stirring in bed." Ash answered.

"Either way since you're here it means that you're ready for your adventure. Although, after seeing your clothes I have to disagree with that conclusion." Oak winked.

"My pajamas? It's a new look. Hopefully it'll catch on or I'll feel foolish." Ash jokingly said.

"He, he. Quite my boy. Come on then, chose your pokémon."

"But aren't the starter's already taken?" Ashe asked.

"Oh yes. Silly me. It seems there aren't anymore pokémon left." The professor scratched his head from embarrassment.

"And how does that work. Didn't you know that there would be more than three trainers beforehand?" Ash asked while casting a scrutinizing gaze on the man before him.

Sweating the professor tried to change the topic.

"Ah yes. There is one more pokémon. However, it's a rather tricky one indeed." A pokéball with a thunderbolt rised from a hidden compartment in the table. The professor picked it up and released the pokémon, it was a Pikachu.

"Chu?" The electric mouse looked around and it wasn't happy with what it saw.

"Wow. A Pikachu. And from what I see it also has an attitude. Are you sure you didn't kidnap this one at the last second?" Ash asked with a wry smile.

Oak comicly fell on the floor after those words.

"I'd be grateful if you didn't spread accusations like this one, thank you very much."

"Chu, chu!" Pikachu laught at the antics of the two humans before it.

"Well then." Ash walked up to the pokémon. "Will you give me the honor of becoming my first friend on my road to greatness?" Ash asked with confidence showing on his face.

"Pikachu?" It sized Ash up and almost laughed at his appearance. It thought that it should scorch the little runt. However, when he saw the eyes filled with determination, it resonated with Pikachu. Maybe it should give him a chance. It can always run away.

"Pika!" Pikachu nodded its head in agreement.

Oak was flabbergasted with how quick it agreed. It's probably deceiving them.

"Ok Pikachu. Are you ready to go?" Ash asked.

Pikachu leapt on his shoulder and motioned with it's tail to make a move on.

As Ash left the laboratory he saw a crowd forming with his mother at its head.

"What's with the welcome party, Mom?

"Well, we couldn't just let you go without saying goodbye."

"But I wanted to go back home anyway. I have to change after all. And I want to have your cooking at least one more time." He hugged his mom.

"Ah yes. Why didn't I think about that? Let's go back home."

One breakfast and changing of clothes later Ash with Pikachu headed towards the route leading to Viridian City. It was a great sunny day. Flowers were blooming as it was the middle of spring. Pikachu layed on Ash's shoulders burping from time to time.

"You know we could have saved that food for later. There was no need to glutton up. Unless you had an idea of running away."

Pikachu started sweating from that comment. Asking itself how this human knew.

"Ha, ha. Don't worry. I was just joking. Although, now you made me wonder about your intentions." He smiled wryly.

A couple of hours later they've reached a fairly open field. Many bird type pokemon could be seen in the grass scouring for food. Ash started looking around for a Spearow. A specific one with an attitude that left alone would bite him in the ass down on the road.

"I'm going to need your help Pikachu. I'm keeping my eye open for a Spearow with an attitude."

"Pika pii?"

"I know they're all crazy. But this one has thrown the screws off. Oh, there it is. Look over there." Ash crouched on the floor and pointed in front of him.

Pikachu was curious and looked in the mentioned direction. And there it saw a slapable face. Yeah that birdbrain was going to get it. The duo closed in on the pokémon.

"Pikachu use Thunderwave and Tackle it. I'll catch that little bugger." Ash gave his sign and the mouse hopped to action.

"Pika chuuuu!" After Pikachu pummeled the bird, Ash quickly thrown a pokéball. Three twitches later and the bird was caught.

"Ha ha. Nice job Pikachu! High five." Ash reached his open hand to Pikachu while it held it's tail up. Suddenly a shock transfered to Ash. After comically falling on his back and puffing a cloud of smoke Ash asked 'Why?'. Pikachu helplessly shrugged. Unfortunately for them the ruckus alerted all the bird pokémon in the near vicinity.

"Run Pikachu, now. Towards the river."

Ash quickly grabbed the pokéball with Spearow and began his sprint with Pikachu running behind. The birds attacked the duo by pecking them. Seeing Pikachu not handling it well he took it into his hands. Pikachu looked with shocked gratitude towards the gesture. The river finally showed up and Ash immediately jumped into it. The current took the both of them for a joyride downstream.

-------

"It's a good day for fishing. Will I catch a majestic Seadra? Or maybe a handsome Golduck, kyah." Hearts appeared in her eyes just thinking about the possibilities.

"Here, my patented Misty bobber will give me the catch I deserve. Hiyah!" And she swinged her fishing rod towards the river.

"Now we wait." Her concentration hit peak levels and the tension in the air could be cut with a knife.

"Why isn't anything biting!?" Misty was getting frustrated. Over two hours of grueling silence and still nothing to show.

"Maybe there's some problem with the bait?" When she tried reeling back in the line something had pulled the bobber back into the water.

"Finally! Come here you handsome piece of...boy?" A black haired boy was fished out by her.

"Hey, are you alright?" She called. 'Please wake up I don't want to do CPR with you!' Her head space was a mess.

The boy started to cough out water and begin doing deep breaths.

"Well this isn't going as expected. Right Pikachu?"

"Pika pii." It said with tiredness audible in its voice.

"Are you both okay?" Ash turned his head and saw a familiar face.

"Why hello there precious. Thank you for saving us." Ash winked and immediately his head hurt.

"I'll give you precious, you dumbass." Steam was blowing from her fist.

"Have you seen a flock of angry birds?" Ash asked.

"No, why?" She replied.

"Well we might have picked up a fight with them so... run?" Ash said while scratching his head. Pikachu's ears twitched.

"Pika, pika chu!" It cried.

"Yeah, better run. I'll borrow your bike to lead them away from here. Thanks, bye!" Ash took Misty's bike and scrambled away with Pikachu. Leaving behind a very flaming redhead.

Screeches finally reached Ash's ears as he ran for his life on the bike.

"They're really persistent. Look over there Pikachu! A thunder cloud. That's our only chance. Get ready!"

"Pika pika!" Resolution within its eyes.

Rain started to pour down intensely. Lightning was coloring the dark gray clouds. The birds flew lower as if afraid of the thunder. However they still continued their pursuit; closely gaining on the runaway duo. Ash was pedaling with all his might. Unfortunately, a rock from nowhere caused him to lose his balance. He tumbling off the bike and landed on the muddy road. Pikachu was quickly surrounded by the raging birds. Ash rushed before it standing at harm's way without fear in his eyes.

"Pika?" It couldn't believe that the human didn't abandon it. Finding strength within itself it slowly stood up. Sparks jumping chaoticly from his cheeks. It made a leap of faith. First to Ash's shoulder and then to the sky, durrounding itself with even more electricity.

"Pi, ka, chuu!" A glorious Thunder shot towards the sky frying the birds in the process. Making it rain Spearows and Pidgeys down to the ground.

It seemed that because of Pikachu the energy in the clouds dispersed much faster than it should have. And because of that the storm ended. Ash went up to the laying on ground Pikachu. He took it into his arms and rubbed the pokémon's head.

"Thank you Pikachu. You don't even know how much this means to me. But I also could have lost you." Tears started falling from his eyes.

"Chu." Pikachu weakly said while licking Ash's face. Affection showing in its eyes. They knew that from this point onwards they'll be friends for a lifetime.

Suddenly, a regal cry reached their ears. They looked towards the sky. An unforgettable moment burned into their memory. A magnificent bird like pokémon with golden flares accompanying it's huge body. A rainbow was being released from its tail feathers. Its squawk chased the clouds away. It seemed to notice the duo beneath it. The legendary bird, Ho-Oh was heading in the direction Ash presumed was Johto. Quickly he took out his Pokédex and took a photo to commerate this one in a lifetime moment. Suddenly, he saw something coming his way.

"Is that what I think it is?" Ash was brimming with excitement as a rainbow feather landed in his hands.

"Pika?" It asked.

"Yes. This is a promise to meet again." He couldn't help but grin.

"Pika pika."

"Let's go Pikachu. I'm taking you to a Pokémon Center."

Ash caught a couple of the fallen Pidgeys and Spearows. He'd send them later to his mom. At least they'd help keep the insects away from the garden.
