Chapter 10: Boulder Badge!
In the high-speed airship, Zephyr lounged comfortably.
The luxury of the interior was undeniable. A faint smirk crept onto his face. "If only there were a few pretty girls here... life would be perfect," he muttered. His villainous persona seeped into his thoughts now and then.
---
After a few hours, the airship landed in Pewter City. Known for its abundance of rocks and minerals, Pewter was teeming with people accompanied by Rock-type Pokémon. Zephyr observed the bustling streets, his gaze locking onto the various trainers with their Pokémon.
Not one to waste time, he approached a passerby and asked for directions to the Pewter Gym.
---
[Task Triggered!]
[Growth Mission: It's not easy to become the strongest villain! Challenge the Pewter Gym, improve your strength step by step, and dominate the world. (Completion Reward: 500 points)]
Zephyr smirked at the system's prompt as he stood before the Pewter Gym. "This badge is mine."
He pushed the heavy doors open and called out, "Anyone here? I'm here to challenge the gym!"
Lights flickered on, revealing a man on a raised platform wiping down a wall with a bucket of water in hand. "A challenger?" Brock's father, Flint, stepped down, giving Zephyr a quick once-over.
"Yeah, Uncle," Zephyr said casually. "I'm here to win."
Flint set the bucket aside and stood tall. "The rules are simple—two-on-two. The trainer with at least one Pokémon standing at the end wins. Ready?"
Zephyr stepped onto the opposing platform. "Let's do this."
---
Flint tossed a Pokéball into the air. "Geodude, let's go!"
A sturdy, rock-like Pokémon materialized, its gaze sharp and ready.
[Geodude (Owned)]
[Rock/Ground Type. Its magnetic properties often attract iron ore, boosting its defense. Commonly found in mountainous areas.]
[Moves: Tackle, Defense Curl, Rock Throw, Explosion, Rock Blast]
[Combat Power: 280]
Zephyr glanced at the stats and chuckled. "510 combat power versus 280? This'll be quick."
"Haunter, you're up!" Zephyr's Ghost-type Pokémon appeared, its mischievous grin wider than ever.
Flint studied Haunter. "That's a well-trained Pokémon. Impressive."
Zephyr smirked. "Compliments won't help. Let's start. Haunter, Hypnosis!"
Haunter's eyes glowed as it waved its hands, sending hypnotic waves toward Geodude.
"Snap out of it, Geodude!" Flint barked. "Don't let it catch you off guard! Counter with Tackle!"
Geodude shook itself awake and lunged forward.
"Float up and dodge," Zephyr commanded. Haunter effortlessly hovered above the charging Geodude. "Now, Double Team!"
Multiple Haunter copies filled the battlefield, circling Geodude and leaving it spinning in confusion.
"Geodude, Defense Curl! Stay strong!" Flint shouted.
But it was too late. Zephyr's Haunter unleashed Confuse Ray, its eerie light striking Geodude head-on.
A burst of dust filled the air. When it settled, Geodude lay unconscious, spirals in its eyes.
Flint sighed and recalled Geodude. "Not bad, but let's see how you handle this. Onix, go!"
A massive Onix emerged, towering over Haunter.
[Onix (Owned)]
[Rock/Ground Type. Known for its immense size and powerful rock-hard body.]
[Moves: Dig, Roar, Earthquake, Iron Tail, Bind, Harden]
[Combat Power: 370]
Zephyr grinned. "Haunter, let's finish this quickly. Use Dark Pulse!"
Haunter released a wave of dark energy, causing the lights in the gym to flicker. Onix flinched but roared in defiance.
"Roar, Onix! Shake it off!" Flint commanded, steadying his Pokémon's resolve.
Zephyr laughed. "It won't matter. Double Team again!"
Haunter split into multiple copies of itself, surrounding Onix.
"Onix, Earthquake!" Flint shouted.
The massive Pokémon slammed the ground, shattering the illusions and forcing Haunter back. Zephyr's smirk faltered briefly. "Haunter, Hypnosis—now!"
Haunter's hypnotic waves struck true this time. Onix's massive body wobbled before crashing to the ground, sound asleep.
"Perfect," Zephyr muttered. "Now, Nightmare!"
Haunter's energy engulfed the sleeping Onix, causing it to writhe in pain even in its unconscious state. Flint's face tightened as he realized the inevitability of the battle's outcome.
"Finish it, Haunter. Shadow Ball!"
The orb of dark energy hit Onix squarely, knocking it out completely.
Flint sighed and recalled Onix. "You've got skill, kid. Good luck out there."
Zephyr pocketed the Boulder Badge with a smirk. "Luck? Who needs it?" He turned and walked out of the gym, his sights set on the next challenge.
