Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Custody of Amber: A Sacred Trust
Blaine was truly impressed by Ash's display of power and his deep bond with his Pokémon. Ash hadn't just passed Blaine's test—he had shown maturity and a unique connection with his Pokémon.
This was precisely the quality Blaine wanted in a trainer to whom he would entrust Amber and Eevee.
"Well done! Boy, that was one of the best matches I've ever had, a true demonstration of both skill and strategy," Blaine praised Ash, recognizing his abilities and strong bond with his team.
"As a mark of your victory, here is your reward—the Volcano Badge." Blaine handed over the Volcano Badge, which Ash took with pride, realizing this was the last step before the Indigo League Conference.
After obtaining the badge, a prompt echoed in Ash's mind at just the right moment.
[Mission complete: Defeat Cinnabar Gym Leader Blaine using your main Fire-type Pokémon and obtain the Volcano Badge.]
[Task reward: Random Pokémon level +9]
[Completion of all three-ring tasks grants an additional reward: highest-level Pokémon level +3]
[Random Pokémon: Charizard]
[Pokémon: Charizard, Level: Lv58 ➔ Lv67]
[Highest-level Pokémon: Dragonite]
[Pokémon: Level: Lv88 ➔ Lv91]
Ash was delighted, seeing his Dragonite reach Lv90 and Charizard advancing to Elite level.
Then, Blaine turned to Ash and his companions with a serious expression. "Ash, I have a request, and it's important you and your friends keep it confidential."
Ash and his companions nodded, and Blaine began to share his story as a former Team Rocket scientist and executive. He explained how he and his friend, Dr. Fuji, had been involved in a cloning experiment, creating a Pokémon from Mew's DNA, resulting in Mewtwo. After Mewtwo's creation and Dr. Fuji's tragic death, Blaine had permanently left Team Rocket.
However, he still hoped to fulfill his late friend's dream of reviving Amber, Dr. Fuji's daughter, through the pinnacle of gene cloning and resurrection. Blaine had researched the legends of Pokémon with the power to revive others, like Ho-oh, who had brought three fallen Pokémon back to life in Johto's Burned Tower.
He warned Ash that if his research data were ever misused by Team Rocket or any other organization, it could be catastrophic. Upon hearing this, Ash was shocked. He'd always known Blaine as a scientist, but the depth of his research and its potential implications were staggering. Brock, Misty, and Sabrina, each seasoned gym leaders in their own right, felt the weight of Blaine's words.
Blaine reassured them. "I destroyed all my research data after developing the method to revive Amber. There's nothing left that can be exploited."
The group sighed in relief. Blaine continued, "Ash, I'm sharing this with you because you have the strength and integrity to protect Amber and bond with her as a true brother would."
Ash nodded in understanding. Blaine then added, "I also did some research on your family. I couldn't believe it at first—you're the son of @#_#$√¢¥¢Richard Ketchum, and your mother, Delia Ketchum, was once Professor Oak's top student and one of the leading researchers of her time."
Ash and his friends were stunned. Ash knew his mother had studied under Professor Oak, but learning she'd been his top student and a celebrated researcher surprised him. As for his father's name, it sparked a faint memory, but it was as if something was blocking him from fully recalling it.
Sabrina and Misty exchanged surprised glances. They knew Ash's mom as a gardener and café owner, but now they marveled at her hidden talents. Brock, however, was particularly intrigued by Ash's father, recognizing his name as someone of significance.
Blaine then made his request. "Ash, I want you to take Amber into your family, to be her guardian and brother. It would be a lifelong favor to me."
Ash replied confidently, "Don't worry, Blaine. I understand the risks, and I'll protect Amber. With Professor Oak in Pallet Town, Team Rocket won't get near my family." Ash was reassured by the fact that Professor Oak, a former Kanto Champion, had powerful Pokémon watching over the town. His team didn't bother with Team Rocket's trio in the original series because they found Jessie, James, and Meowth amusing.
Blaine breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Ash. Knowing you'll look after Amber puts my mind at ease."
He led Ash and the others to a hidden lab within the gym. Inside a small room, a girl, around seven or eight years old, was playing cards with an Eevee with a unique-colored tail. Seeing the newcomers, Amber hid her face behind Eevee, who she held like a shield.
"Amber, don't be shy," Blaine coaxed. "This young man will be your brother from now on."
Ash crouched down to her level, smiling warmly. "Nice to meet you, Amber. I'm Ash Ketchum, and from today onward, you're my little sister."
Amber's eyes widened. "Really? You'll accept me as your sister?" she asked shyly, her words tugging at everyone's hearts.
Ash chuckled. "Yes, Amber, from now on, we're family." Ash don't knowat this time but he was started to evolve into siscon.
Amber threw her arms around him, tears of joy in her eyes. "Thank you, brother," she whispered, filling Ash's heart with warmth and protective resolve. Misty and Sabrina's hearts melted at the sight, while Brock looked on proudly, mentally welcoming Ash to the "Siscon Association."
After introducing Amber to Misty and Sabrina, who instantly started fussing over her, Brock handed Ash a book titled How to Be the Best Bro. Ash gave him a thumbs-up and tucked the book away.
Blaine then pointed to Eevee. "This Eevee is special. It has a mutated gene allowing it to transform into any evolution form but will need to experience each unique evolution condition first. Please, take it as a reward for your incredible performance today." Blaine removed Eevee's ownership and encouraged Ash to capture it.
Ash knelt by Eevee, smiling. "Eevee, it's good to meet you. Do you want to join my team and grow strong together?" Eevee glanced at Pikachu, sensing its power, and made up its mind, tapping the Pokéball Ash held and joining his team.
As soon as Eevee was captured, another prompt sounded in Ash's mind.
[Mission complete: Demonstrate your bond with Pokémon to gain Blaine's trust and be given custody of Amber and Eevee.]
[Task reward: Power of Viridian mastery, Rainbow Wing (key to challenge Ho-oh), Master Ball x3]
Ash decided to explore his new power of Viridian and other rewards later, but he was thrilled—Master Balls, the Rainbow Wing, and mastery over the Power of Viridian.
Ash knew this matter needed to be discussed with both Professor Oak and his mother, so he mentioned to Blaine that their support would be essential.
Blaine agreed and contacted Professor Oak and Delia Ketchum, inviting them to Cinnabar Island.
Upon their arrival, Blaine shared his story. Professor Oak listened intently, carefully analyzing the situation, while Delia was immediately drawn to Amber.
Though shy at first, Amber quickly began to warm up to Delia, forming an instant attachment.
After weighing the pros and cons, Professor Oak agreed to support the adoption but on one condition: Blaine would need to provide some key information about Team Rocket's black-market locations and transactions. Blaine accepted this request.
Delia, delighted to welcome Amber into her family, agreed to adopt her without hesitation.
Now that she was financially stable, thanks to Ash, she was confident she could raise her new daughter comfortably.
Ash then asked Professor Oak to assist his mother in the legal adoption process, ensuring Amber would officially become part of their family.
