Chapter 296: The Millennium Comet and Jirachi’s Awakening!
"Dragonair, Hydro Pump!"
Two Crobat carried Matt and his remaining grunts into the sky. Johan and the others could only pin their hopes on Dragonair's final long-range attack.
"Draaa~~!"
Hearing Johan's command, Dragonair's blue orb shimmered brightly, and a torrent of water blasted out, cutting through the air like a spear.
Matt sneered coldly.
A long-distance Hydro Pump? At this range?
Impossible to hit.
Did they think a Team Aqua Admin wasn't an expert in handling Water-type moves?
However, that smug grin soon froze on Matt's face.
The water blast shot straight at him with terrifying precision!
"Damn it!"
There's definitely something off about this Trainer's Pokémon!
With a grimace, Matt tossed another Poké Ball into the air.
A Gastrodon appeared in a flash of red light and intercepted the incoming attack, absorbing the Hydro Pump with its Storm Drain ability.
Matt hadn't taken the risk of commanding his Crobat to counter the water blast directly—something about that attack felt off, like it wasn't so easily neutralized.
Better to sacrifice a Pokémon to block it than take chances.
"Tch."
Watching Matt escape into the distance, Johan clicked his tongue in frustration.
These evil organizations really don't play fair—since when did they start carrying more than six Pokémon?!
"Should we give chase, Teacher?" Steven asked, his expression serious.
"How?"
Johan shook his head.
The only way to catch up would be for him to ride on Dragonair and use Extreme Speed.
But Dragonair was already slippery enough to ride on during normal flight, let alone while zipping through the sky at lightning speed.
Besides, who knows if there are more Team Aqua members lying in wait ahead? They might be walking into an ambush.
Still, Johan had to give Matt credit for being decisive.
The guy left behind multiple Pokémon and even his own grunts without hesitation.
Cold-blooded? Sure.
Effective? Absolutely.
"He's probably weakened after losing so many Pokémon," Johan mused.
Then, with a small grin, he added:
"Although… with Gengar's Nightmare, he'll probably be stuck having some very unpleasant dreams for a long while."
Now came the next problem:
What should they do with the left-behind grunts and their defeated Pokémon?
Just as Johan pondered their options—
Buzz—
The purple crystal in Johan's hand began to tremble, pulsing with a faint light.
Then, without warning, it floated into the air.
"Huh?"
Johan blinked.
Suddenly, the night sky cleared, and from the heavens, a brilliant silver comet with a long tail streaked across the sky.
"The Millennium Comet…" Johan whispered.
Wait.
Wasn't it supposed to appear tomorrow or the day after?
Why now?
The sudden appearance of the comet drew everyone's attention. Steven, Roxanne, Flannery, and all the Pokémon gazed upward in awe.
"Wow… it's beautiful…" Roxanne murmured.
She was still catching her breath from the intense battle earlier. But now, under the comet's light, a sense of peace washed over her.
Flannery couldn't help but grin.
"Is this the universe's way of celebrating our victory?"
Even Gengar was mesmerized by the sight.
"Ka-kah!"
He clasped his hands together, squeezing his eyes shut.
Time to make a wish!
Please let Johan become the strongest Trainer! Please let him live a long, happy life! Please let us always stay together!
At that moment, all of Johan's Pokémon shared a single, heartfelt wish.
Even Charcadet, the newest addition to the team, silently wished:
[Johan, may you always be happy.]
Suddenly—
A gentle telepathic voice echoed in Johan's mind:
[Johan… may you be happy.]
Huh?
Johan's eyes widened.
Was that…
Jirachi?
So, he could hear its voice after all!
As the chosen bearer of the Rainbow Wing, Johan grinned smugly to himself.
"I knew it!"
"Oowoo~~"
Alolan Ninetales wrapped its tails protectively around Johan, rubbing its head affectionately against him.
"Cha~~"
Tinkaton toddled over, tugging at Johan's pant leg.
The comet's tail was curving in the sky.
Following Tinkaton's gaze, Johan squinted at the comet.
Was there… something chasing it?
Steven spoke softly, his tone tinged with wonder.
"The scientists at Mossdeep Space Center are going to be shocked. They predicted the comet's arrival incorrectly."
Johan's lips twitched.
Maybe the comet's early arrival wasn't a mistake.
Maybe…
something that feeds on celestial bodies had caused it to change course.
Right then, Jirachi's telepathic voice spoke again:
[The stars… they are calling to me.]
Calling?
Or perhaps… crying for help?
The purple crystal Johan held began to glow more intensely.
Light spilled out from within it, bright and radiant.
"Is that… Jirachi?!" Roxanne gasped.
"Quick, Rotom! Record this!"
Rotom Dex hovered closer, its camera lens whirring as it captured the scene.
The glowing crystal bathed the surroundings in a radiant aura before shattering like glass petals.
And from the light emerged…
A small, star-shaped Pokémon.
Golden and adorable, it floated gently in the air, its eyes still closed as if it hadn't fully woken up.
Rotom Dex immediately began its analysis:
Jirachi, the Wish Pokémon.
Type: Steel/Psychic.
It is said to awaken once every thousand years for only seven days, during which it can grant any wish, no matter how impossible. Rotto!
The tiny Pokémon wavered, blinking sleepily.
Johan caught it with both hands as it drifted toward him.
It was as if it instinctively trusted him.
The status screen popped up in Johan's vision:
[Jirachi]
Type: Steel/Psychic
Ability: Serene Grace
Moves: Confusion, Wish, Swift, Life Dew, Zen Headbutt, Gravity, Future Sight, Doom Desire, Healing Wish, Rest…
Mood: Dazed (Who woke me up?)
Condition: Excellent (Still sleepy…)
Friendship: 50 (It senses your pure intentions through your aura. Thank you, Aura.)
Johan's expression darkened.
So, without the Aura, Jirachi wouldn't even notice his kindness?
What a useless Pokédex entry!
"Draaa!"
Dragonair coiled happily as Jirachi floated closer.
Johan smiled.
"Hello, Jirachi. I'm Johan. It's nice to meet you."
Jirachi blinked.
[Johan?]
The Wish Pokémon giggled, suddenly flying forward to hug Johan tightly.
"Hey! It's hugging him!" Flannery whispered to Roxanne.
"That's adorable," Roxanne agreed.
Even Gengar got excited.
"Ka-kah!"
Hey, look! It popped out of a rock like an egg!
Johan rubbed his temple.
Why did that sound like something out of a bad joke?
But as Jirachi clung to him, it suddenly froze.
The Friendship meter in Johan's mind began to drop rapidly.
His heart clenched.
"Not again…"
Quickly, Johan reached into his bag and pulled out some Pokéblocks.
"Hungry?"
Jirachi's eyes sparkled. It eagerly took the treats, nibbling happily.
Friendship restored.
Suddenly—
A shadow loomed over them.
Looking up, they saw a massive golden pyramid floating in the sky.
"Is that… a flying pyramid?"
Gengar's eyes sparkled.
"Ka-kaah!"
Forget cars or planes—this was the ride of his dreams!
As the pyramid hovered, a smaller craft descended from it.
Two figures stepped out.
One of them was a tall, stern-looking man with a commanding presence.
The Pyramid King, Brandon.
"Something happened here?" Brandon's sharp gaze swept the battlefield.
Behind him, a familiar, rotund man wearing a floral shirt and sunglasses grinned broadly.
"Hey, it's Scott!" Roxanne recognized him immediately.
"Johan! Are you here to challenge the Battle Frontier?" Scott asked excitedly.
Johan: "…???"
