Pokémon: Perfect Start

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Pewter City Gym

"Ah, I'm so full. The food at the restaurant is really delicious."

After finishing the meal, Misty and Brock were sitting with their stomachs bulging, while Ash was writing something with a pen. The manager beside Ash was sweating profusely as he watched his boss.

After finishing his writing, Ash handed the paper to the manager and said, "Change the tomato supplier. Their tomatoes don't taste right anymore. Pikachu wasn't satisfied with the tomato sauce this time."

Pikachu, whose stomach had grown significantly from eating, stretched out a small hand and made a "V" sign, shouting, "Pika pika!"

"Hmm, the tomatoes used for the tomato sauce weren't the freshest when they arrived..."

After they left, Misty looked at Ash with some exasperation and said, "Ash, you're really strict."

However, Ash shook his head and said, "It's not that I'm strict. It's a matter of integrity. I don't think this supplier is a good partner. Anyway, let's not talk about it anymore. Let's head to the Pokémon Center first. I still need to sign up for the league competition."

"Alright."

Afterward, Ash and his group went to the Pokémon Center. After handing over their Pokémon, who had all gained some weight from eating, to Nurse Joy, Ash began to sign up for the Pokémon League.

"Ash, are you going to participate in the Pokémon League?" Nurse Joy looked at Ash with some surprise.

"Yeah, it's also a way to hone my skills. After all, I just started my journey. There will definitely be many strong trainers along the way, but compared to the strong trainers in the league, there will be fewer. So, it's good to go there and challenge myself to see where I stand."

"Hehe, as long as you're happy..." Nurse Joy didn't know what to say. The Joy family, being a medical family, is responsible for helping Ash's Pokémon recover, so they are very familiar with Ash's Pokémon.

Not to mention the recent additions like Growlithe, Ralts, and Charmander, Nurse Joy knows the true strength of Meowth and Chansey, who have been with Ash the longest. Meowth and Chansey are truly at the level of Elite Four strength. Just these two are enough to sweep through the rookies in the league, let alone Ash's Pikachu...

Just thinking about how many people would be shocked if they knew the true strength of Ash's Pikachu.

After the Pokémon had recovered, Ash and Misty arrived at the Pewter City Gym. However, as soon as they entered, they heard a loud crying sound.

"Waaaaah!!!! Why?! Miss Elesa is getting married?! Why?!!"

Looking at the guy who was crying uncontrollably while watching the news, Ash said with some exasperation, "Heartbreak is really scary..."

Just as Ash was feeling speechless, a child walked over and said, "I'm sorry. Big brother Brock has been like this ever since he heard that a sister named Elesa got engaged. It would be better to wait a bit."

"Alright, thank you. Misty, let's wait for a bit."

Misty looked at Brock, who was crying sadly, and nodded, saying, "Okay."

During the waiting period, Ash also called some of his friends.

"Hey? Steven, I'm out on my journey now. Oh, don't worry, Pikachu and the others are still reliable."

"Hey, Elesa, nothing much, just wanted to call you."

"May, please spare me."

"Diantha, Ralts is healthy, don't worry."

After Ash finished contacting a bunch of people, Brock finally stopped crying.

"I'm sorry, I've been feeling a bit sad recently."

Brock looked at Ash and Misty, who had been waiting for him, with some embarrassment. Ash, however, said understandingly, "I can understand. After all, your goddess is getting married."

"It's great that you understand! Why is Miss Elesa getting engaged? Damn it! Who is that enviable guy?!"

Looking at Brock, who was both sad and furious, Ash just smiled and didn't say anything. How could he tell Brock that Elesa's fiancé was himself?

"I'm sorry, I got a bit emotional again. Well then, let's begin! The gym battle starts now! We'll each use two Pokémon. The first one to have both Pokémon unable to battle loses. As the gym leader, I'll go first. Go, Geodude!"

"Geodude!"

Seeing the Rock-type Geodude, Ash took out Charmander's Luxury Ball and said, "Go, Charmander. This is a battle against type advantage."

Seeing that Ash had sent out Charmander, Brock couldn't help but say, "You do know about type advantages, right?"

However, Ash shook his head and said, "Yes, I know. But for Charmander, battling against type advantage is inevitable sooner or later. So, it's better to let him experience it early. Charmander, don't let the enemy attack you, or it will deal a lot of damage to you."

"Char!"

Charmander nodded, then looked seriously at Geodude.

"If that's what you say, then I won't hold back! Geodude, use Rollout!"

Under Brock's command, Geodude curled up into a ball and charged straight at Charmander. However, Charmander didn't move; it was waiting for Ash's command.

"Grab it."

"Char!"

Hearing Ash's command, Charmander hugged Geodude as it charged forward.

"What! Although I thought your Charmander was strong before, but what's the situation with it hugging Geodude's Roll?!"

Facing the surprised Brock, Ash didn't respond but directly said, "As I taught you before! Seismic Toss to finish it!"

"Charmander!"

Charmander, holding Geodude, jumped high and then threw it towards the ground. Geodude hit the ground hard, its eyes starting to spin.

"To be defeated in one move... come back, Geodude..."

After recalling Geodude, Brock looked at Ash seriously and said, "It seems I underestimated you, but even so, can you handle him? Go, Onix!"

As Onix's massive body appeared, Ash said to Charmander, "Come back, Charmander, you can't handle this one."

"Charmander."

Charmander obediently returned to Ash's side, and then Ash said to the Ralts he was holding, "Go, Ralts, it's your turn."

"Ralts."

Brock was somewhat surprised that Ash sent out Ralts, but he wouldn't hold back.

"Go, Onix! Use Bind!"

"Onix!"

Onix wouldn't hold back, charging directly at Ralts with its massive body, while Ralts looked firmly at Onix.

"Use Psychic to control it."

"Ralts!"

As Ralts used its skill, Onix's body stopped, and Brock could only say helplessly, "I knew it, Psychic types are really hard to deal with..."

"Magical Leaf."

"Ralts!"

With Ralts's Psychic power, magical leaves began to swirl around Onix.

"Hurry and break free, Onix!"

"Onix!"

Although Onix really wanted to break free, it was of no use. Although Ralts had always been like a little cotton jacket clinging to Ash, Ash had always trained her, so Ralts's Psychic wasn't so easy to break free from. After seeing that Onix had been hit enough by Magical Leaf, Ash said, "Ralts, throw it out."

"Ralts!"

With Ralts's Psychic power, Onix fell to the ground, unable to get up.

"The match is over, the winner of this battle is Ash from Pallet Town!"

After recalling Onix, Brock took out the Boulder Badge and handed it to Ash, saying, "That was really impressive, your Pokémon are very strong. This is the Boulder Badge, please take it."

"Alright, so the first badge is obtained."
