Chapter 16: Chapter 16:Pokémon Statistics at School
The main theme of the farm should be leisure.
Just like how Natsume is feeling right now.
"Whoosh~"
Growlithe breathed fire onto the firewood, igniting it.
Once the fire started burning, Natsume placed a barbecue grill on top.
He brushed it with oil and laid the meat on the grill.
Sizzle~
The delicious aroma of cooking meat wafted through the air as the oil crackled.
In the evening breeze, under the setting sun,
the land was filled with sprouting Plump Beans.
Sandslash lay beside them, keeping watch.
Buneary carried a small basket to the river to wash vegetables.
Boom~
In the nearby open wasteland,
Dratini and Snivy were engaged in battle training.
"Chano~"
Leaves began to gather in front of Snivy.
"Dratini~"
Dratini took a deep breath.
A Twister quickly formed and blew away the Magical Leaf in front of Snivy.
Dratini's level was significantly higher than Snivy's.
However, since this was just training, Dratini wasn't using all its strength.
Natsume glanced over at their training spot.
He realized that Pokémon can increase their experience points through battles and training.
Those with better potential would gain more experience.
Those with lower potential, even with hard training, could only gain one or two experience points.
Ding dong~
A message suddenly chimed on his phone.
Class 3-1's class president, Kiko, had sent a message to Natsume.
Kiko: "Are you there? Yoshida Teacher is asking for the statistics on the first Pokémon in the group."
The last message in the chat was from Yamato tagging himself.
Yamato: "Natsume, you're not really farming, are you?"
Natsume looked at the message and scrolled up through the chat history.
Yoshida Teacher, the homeroom teacher of Class 3-1, had sent a group message.
"We are collecting statistics on the first Pokémon of the Class 3 graduates. Please upload a group photo with your Pokémon."
"Also, please don't forget that tomorrow is the last day to return to school, turn in your meal cards, and take graduation photos."
There were thirty-six students in Class 3-1.
Natsume looked at the Pokémon in the group.
Most of the girls had posted pictures of cute Pokémon like Eevee and Skitty.
Among the boys, there was a wider variety of Pokémon chosen.
Natsume even saw someone post a photograph with Koffing.
Additionally, there were two classmates with the three starters.
Aside from Sho's Charmander, another classmate had a Tepig.
Yoshida Teacher: "Is there anyone who hasn't posted their Pokémon yet?"
Kiko: "Yoshida Teacher, Natsume hasn't posted yet."
Kenta: "Haha, Natsume is probably farming."
Yoshida Teacher: "?"
Kenta explained: "I asked Natsume to hang out the other day, and he said he was going to the countryside to farm, covering his face."
Sho: "Natsume has been at the bottom in most of the placement tests; he probably doesn't want to go to college anymore."
Natsume felt a bit helpless reading Sho's message.
This world was very different from Natsume's previous life, and the content of the exams was naturally different as well.
Moreover, Natsume had already graduated long before he crossed over.
Let alone taking tests in a parallel world,
even returning to his original high school days and facing the exam papers would likely leave him feeling lost.
"Yamato: Natsume, are you really farming?"
Natsume took a picture of himself barbecuing in the field: "Yes, I just finished clearing the land."
"Kenta: This place looks a bit desolate."
"Sho: You're in a rough spot, huh?"
"Kiko: Is that more barbecue? It looks pretty cozy."
"Yamato: Wait a minute!"
Yamato zoomed in on the picture Natsume posted.
In the bottom left corner of the image, Dratini was peeking out, eyeing the meat on Natsume's barbecue grill.
"Yamato: Can you tell me what this is?"
"Dratini~"
Dratini called out to Natsume.
"Open wide."
Natsume offered Dratini a piece of meat and then typed in the group chat: "This is my Dratini."
"Yamato: Hahahahaha! I knew it! This is real, wow!"
The chat immediately became lively.
"Oh wow, that really is a Dratini."
"Natsume, did you capture it yourself?"
"Kenta: By the way, that one lying on its side—could it be a Sandslash? It's not yours too, is it?"
"Natsume: You guys really are scrutinizing the picture like detectives."
Boom~
"Awooo~ Roar~"
As Natsume was reading the group chat, a howl suddenly erupted from the west side of the farm.
"What was that sound?"
Natsume frowned and set down his phone.
"Awo!"
Growlithe froze for a moment before its expression turned fierce as it let out a low growl toward the source of the howl.
Natsume glanced at Growlithe's state: "Is it that group of Houndour?"
"Awo!"
Growlithe nodded!
Quest Triggered: Growlithe's Counterattack!
Quest Description: After having been defeated by the Houndour pack, Growlithe is eager for a rematch and seeks victory.
Quest Reward: Fire Stone.
Natsume stood up from his spot: "Let's go, we're heading over!"
"Awo!"
Growlithe quickly dashed forward.
"Dratini~"
"Chirp chirp!"
Dratini and Sandslash immediately followed.
Snivy also ran over to join them.
In the woods!
"Houndour!"
Five Houndour had surrounded a young boy under a tree.
In front of him stood a Machop.
However, it looked battered and bruised.
"Houndour!"
The lead Houndour let out a howl, and the remaining four rushed in!
At that moment, a burst of intense flames suddenly shot toward them.
The flames startled the Houndour, causing them to back away in a hurry.
Machop glanced at Growlithe and Natsume approaching from the side and immediately felt relieved, then collapsed to the ground.
Machop lost its battle capability.
"Machop, don't scare me like that."
"It's my fault for provoking that Houndour."
Seeing Machop unconscious, its Trainer let out a cry and began to sob.
"Don't cry."
Natsume approached with slight exasperation: "Machop will be fine."
"It's just exhausted."
As Natsume spoke, he reached out to pat Machop.
Eternity Power activated.
A soft white light glowed from Natsume's hand.
Under the healing effect of Eternity Power, Machop quickly recovered.
"Machop~"
Machop called out to its Trainer.
"Who are you, and why are you here?"
Natsume asked him.
"My name is Daiki. I'm here for a hiking trip."
Daiki wiped away his tears: "Since my high school graduation, I wanted to take a solo outdoor hike as a graduation gift for myself."
"So, I brought my Machop along with me."
At that moment, Daiki really looked shaken.
He spilled out his entire experience all at once.
"Then I just saw a Houndour."
"I thought maybe I could capture it."
"So I went to attack it, but unexpectedly, four more Houndour suddenly appeared."
After Daiki finished, Natsume understood what had happened.
"Houndour!"
The lead Houndour glared furiously at Growlithe and Natsume, letting out a warning cry to drive them away.
This area was their territory.
To the Houndour, Natsume and Growlithe were intruders now.
"Awooo!"
Growlithe shot back a fierce glare.
This place had clearly been its territory before!
