Chapter 23: Chapter 23 - Christmas Shopping
A few months later, it's Christmas season. Rico had nan entire two weeks off from school, and he'll dedicated these two weeks in spending time with his Pokémon and family.
One morning, a bunch of kids and their Pokémon came in front of the gate to sing a song while clanging their simple instruments. Upon hearing the sounds, Rico and his family and team came went outside and watch them until the end with delight, before giving them 100 Poké Dollars as a reward for them. Accepting the gift of money, the kids said thank you in a singsong voice, before leaving the property. It was an act of charity for the Cruz family.
Later after breakfast time, Rico and his team went out to buy some gifts for his parents and friends. But as he and his team are walking down the street that leads into downtown, Rico suddenly saw a bunch of people listening to a salamangkero and his Absol warning them of an upcoming storm that will hit Kawayan City.
Of course, Rico stopped by and listened to the salamangkero's sayings and warnings.
"Be prepared, citizens," the salamangkero warned them. "A storm will come, according to my Absol."
Absol then responded seriously.
At this point, Rico was wondering in his mind, "I wonder if I could get an Absol, but I think only salamangkeros can have one." He strongly believed that only salamangkeros, or a type of magicians, can have Absols. But, he do believed that ordinary Trainers can have it.
Then, while walking towards the mall, Rico was thinking about what the salamangkero just said when he noticed dark clouds sailing in the sky and the winds are getting faster and colder. He then and his team then stopped walking and shivered against the cold a bit, before resumed walking.
Later at the mall, Rico and his team are browsing for items at the department store to be given to his parents and friends. And then, he come across a leather notebook, in A6 size, blue, and with an elastic band and a back pocket, for only 50 Poké Dollars.
"Wow, looks cheap but high quality as well," Rico commented to himself. He then get one of those notebooks and tossed it into the shopping cart, before proceeding to the next aisle.
Not long after, Rico and his team had arrived at an aisle where pens and other writing instruments are there. He then thought to himself, "Dad, you really liked writing things down, so I'll give you some pens as a thank you gift for letting me to be a Pokémon Trainer." He then get three black gel pens and 2 blue gel pens and tossed them into the shopping cart, before getting an additional 2 green gel pens and a red highlighter for himself. After that, he and his team left the aisle and to the section where gift wrappers can be seen.
At that said section, Rico get 3 wrapping papers for 10 Poké Dollars each, and carefully shoved them into the shopping cart without tearing the paper apart.
After that, he and his team went to the cashiers to pay for them. At the cash register, after scanning the prices of Rico's purchases, the cashier told him, "That'll be 115 Poké Dollars, kid."
In response to that, Rico get his wallet from his bag and get some bank notes and some coins, before zipping the wallet and giving the money to the cashier.
"Thank you so much," the cashier cheerfully responded back as she received the payment and put them into the cash register. She then printed out the receipt of Rico's purchases and tear it cleanly, before giving it to Rico.
Receiving the receipt and the paper bag of his purchases, Rico said thank you to her politely and nicely, before putting his wallet back in his bag and he and his team left the store with the paper bag.
Later, at the ground floor of the mall, after taking the escalator, Rico and his team decided to grab a snack at the food court, so they all went to the food court nearby to eat a light snack. At the food court, Rico and his team went up to a food outlet that sells empanadas filled with jam, and ordered three empanadas with berry jam as its filling.
"Okay, sir, that'll be 30 Poké Dollars," the cashier told him positively.
Once again, Rico grabbed his wallet, get some coins, and gave it to the cashier, before zipping the wallet and shoved it back into the bag.
Receiving the money, the cashier gave the three empanadas, still hot and fresh, to Rico on a plate. He then told him to leave the plate on the table once he was done eating.
"Yes, I will, thank you so much," Rico politely responded back as he receives the said plate.
Riolu then responded with thankfulness.
After that, he and his team turned around and went to find a seat for themselves.
