The next morning, Liam finished washing up and was just about to leave when there was a knock on the door.
Opening it, he found Nurse Joy standing outside, looking as lovely as ever, with an orange-furred Growlithe sitting obediently at her side.
"Growlithe! Are your injuries healed already?" Liam exclaimed, crouching down beside Growlithe and inspecting it carefully, his joy evident.
"Ahem, this Growlithe is fully recovered now," Nurse Joy interjected, clearing her throat in an effort to regain attention.
"Its injuries have been treated, and its weakened state has been nursed back to health. It insisted on coming to find you as soon as it felt better, so I had no choice but to bring it here."
"Ah, thank you so much, Nurse Joy! By the way, do you know where the guy named Jiro lives? If you do, could you let me know?" Liam asked, looking up to express his gratitude.
"Oh, that guy?" Nurse Joy's expression darkened slightly.
"I heard he's been staying around the warehouse near the river on the edge of town. There's a private battle arena there, and he's been challenging other trainers, secretly engaging in gambling on the side. They say he's been winning a lot lately and has gotten pretty arrogant."
"Got it! Thanks again, Nurse Joy! Growlithe, let's head downstairs for some special training. Once we're done, you'll be ready to challenge your old trainer and show him what you're made of. Let's go!" Liam said excitedly, leading Growlithe downstairs.
"Growlithe, Growl!" Growlithe barked enthusiastically, its fighting spirit ignited.
"Wait! Growlithe's injuries just healed! Don't overdo it!" Nurse Joy called out behind them.
Liam took Growlithe to an open area beside the Pokémon Center, which had its own battle arena—perfect for some training.
"Growlithe, we'll train here today. First, let's find you an opponent! Come on out, Nidorino, Gabite, Sneasel, and Arbok!" Liam threw his PokeBalls, releasing four beams of light that materialized into his Pokémon, surrounding Growlithe.
Growlithe immediately became alert, lowering its body and growling defensively. It could sense that these Pokémon were not ordinary—they were strong.
"Haha, don't worry, Growlithe! These are my battle partners. Today, they'll help you practice your combat skills. Nidorino, you go first," Liam said, gesturing for Nidorino to step forward.
Among Liam's Pokémon, Nidorino was the gentlest, while the others tended to be a bit rough in their training. Not knowing Growlithe's full condition yet, Liam decided to play it safe.
As soon as Liam finished speaking, Gabite, Sneasel, and Arbok moved aside, clearing the field for Growlithe and Nidorino. After sizing each other up for a moment, Growlithe launched the first attack.
Opening its mouth, Growlithe unleashed a stream of fiery Flamethrower. Nidorino dodged with a swift leap and retaliated with a barrage of Poison Stings.
But Growlithe charged forward fearlessly, flames crackling around it as it used Flare Blitz, transforming into a fiery ball of energy that slammed into Nidorino before it could evade.
"Wait, Flare Blitz? That can't be right. Does Growlithe's level really allow for that move?" Liam muttered, astonished.
He quickly used his Pokédex to analyze Growlithe.

Liam was stunned. Why would someone abandon such an amazing Growlithe? Not only had it learned all its moves, but it also inherited the rare Morning Sun.
The only explanation he could think of was that Jiro must have been out of his damn mind.
Liam could hardly believe that he encountered a similar situation like the classic Ash-Paul moment with Chimchar. And it was another fire-type this time as well! What were the odds?!
Meanwhile, the battle continued, with Nidorino taking the brunt of Growlithe's Flare Blitz. Though Nidorino managed to stand back up, Growlithe, still recovering from its injuries, collapsed from exhaustion.
"Growlithe!" Liam rushed over, lifting it gently.
Growlithe opened its eyes slightly and licked Liam's cheek as if to reassure him.
"Phew, don't scare me like that. Your body hasn't fully healed yet, so take it easy on those high-risk moves," Liam said, relieved. He took out a bottle of Moomoo Milk to help Growlithe recover when slow applause interrupted him.
Liam turned to see a smirking boy approaching. "Huh?" Liam squinted, trying to place him. He looked extremely annoying even at a glance.
"Who are you? "
"Grow! Grow!" The arrival of the young man made Growlithe anxious. He struggled to get up, but sown again weakly, looking at the stranger with sad eyes.
"Growlithe's reaction tells me you already know who I am. I'm Jiro," the boy said mockingly.
"Ah.. so it's you, the Raincoat asshole. No wonder I didn't recognise you without it."
Jiro sneered, "Now.. now.. no need for that attitude. I saw Growlithe's fight just now. Same old story—headstrong and reckless. You think it can win? It's just like in Pewter City when it charged at Flint's Geodude and got itself knocked out. Useless."
Liam was speechless, staring at Jiro as if he were an idiot. "Are you for real? The fuck you've been smoking? That was Flare Blitz, not some random move, you retard. You don't even know what you're talking about, do you?"
Growlithe lowered its head, whining softly.
Jiro's gaze shifted to Liam's other Pokémon. "Haha, are these your Pokemon? They look decent, but they're no match for mine. Look at that one, it's so small and that white one just looks silly and weak. I can tell at a glance that it's obviously not very powerful. You'd better trade up for something stronger."
Jiro obviously didn't know about Gabite and Sneasel, but still, he didn't think much highly of them. He continued, "Since you're having so much fun, I won't disturb you. I just defeated two opponents again recently and I need to head back to the Pokemon Center to collect them. I look forward to your challenge, I'll definitely have some fun with you. Haha, goodbye losers!"
With that, Jiro took off, laughing to himself.
"Gabite?" Gabite chirped, pointing at Jiro, confused.
"Yes, Gabite, you're right. This guy's a total idiot," Liam muttered, shaking his head.
Liam sighed. He never expected he would meet someone who could rival the Blind Douluo - Su Yuntao - here in the Pokemon world.
