Liam gazed at the newly appeared Blastoise, immediately dispelling the exhilaration from his consecutive victories. His expression turned serious.

This Blastoise, released from a PokéBall Florian had carried with him, was undoubtedly a true powerhouse—a mainstay Pokémon of exceptional strength. This battle would be a challenging one.

But Liam remained undeterred.

"Go! This last match is yours, Sneasel!"

Sneasel, Liam's final Pokémon, leapt onto the icy battlefield. Its diminutive frame stood in stark contrast to Blastoise's imposing size, highlighting the clear difference in their weight classes. 

Yet, battles between Pokémon weren't determined by weight. Sneasel narrowed its eyes at Blastoise, raising its claws in preparation for the fight.

Liam admired the Kanto starters deeply, often dreaming of having one himself. But obtaining them was easier said than done.

Even Professor Oak's lab didn't have them readily available. While Prof. Oak might have been able to acquire one, Liam felt it inappropriate to ask. Back then, Prof. Oak hadn't yet partnered with the League to distribute starter Pokémon, as other research facilities were responsible for that. 

Consequently, obtaining additional starters raised and trained by the League was particularly difficult.

This Blastoise had undoubtedly been with Florian for a long time—It might possibly be one if his main Pokémon. Liam knew he couldn't afford to be careless.

"Sneasel! Use Hone Claws!"

Blastoise was famous for its exceptional defense and endurance. Sneasel's current attack power likely couldn't inflict significant damage, so boosting its attack and accuracy was the best course of action.

"Snea!"

With a soft cry, Sneasel was enveloped in a white glow. Its claws gleamed intensely before the light shattered, leaving Sneasel's gaze sharper and more focused.

"Boosting stats right away? Smart choice! But we won't sit idly by. Blastoise, use Rapid Spin!" Ice Florian launched the first offensive strike with a crushingly direct approach.

"Blas! Blastoise!"

Upon receiving the command, Blastoise withdrew its limbs and head into its shell. The massive shell began spinning rapidly, rocketing toward Sneasel like a flying disk.

This attack left little room for Sneasel to retaliate directly—akin to a weasel grappling with a hedgehog.

"Dodge with Double Team and Agility!" Liam immediately instructed, knowing this wasn't the time for a head-on clash.

Sneasel darted out of Blastoise's trajectory, moving swiftly across the ice while creating multiple illusionary copies. The numerous Sneasel surrounded Blastoise, all appearing poised to strike at any moment, waiting for the perfect opening.

"Let's end this in one shot! Blastoise, use Water Pulse on the ground!"

"Blas!"

Blastoise reemerged from its shell, aimed its cannons downward, and unleashed two massive water spheres onto the ice. As the water exploded, waves surged outward, erasing the illusionary clones. 

But just as the waves reached one figure, it leapt into the air.

"Snea!"

Suspended mid-air, Sneasel looked down at the shattered ice below, shuddering slightly at the devastating power of the attack.

"What immense strength! We can't afford to lose the ice field. Sneasel, use Icy Wind on Blastoise and the ice!"

Hearing Liam's calm command, Sneasel took a deep breath before exhaling a frigid wind.

"Blastoise, retreat into your shell!" Ice Florian immediately countered.

Blastoise nodded slightly before withdrawing its limbs, allowing the freezing wind to pass over its sturdy shell. The icy gusts restored the fragmented ice surface, creating jagged frozen chunks around the field. 

The attack's low power and ice-type disadvantage meant Blastoise emerged virtually unscathed.

Landing lightly on the refrozen ice, Sneasel showed no sign of struggle. Adapted to the frigid terrain, its sharp claws pierced the ice for grip, allowing it to glide effortlessly toward Blastoise.

"Sneasel! Use Taunt!"

Knowing Blastoise's defensive moves were a significant hurdle, Liam instructed Sneasel to exploit its current vulnerability and seal off those options.

"Snea!"

Mid-charge, Sneasel paused, flashed a mischievous grin, and raised a finger mockingly at Blastoise (with only two fingers, who knows which one it was). 

Enraged, Blastoise burst from its shell, glaring at Sneasel with seething fury.

"Forced into offense, huh? That changes nothing. Blastoise, use Skull Bash!" Ice Florian confidently issued the command, unfazed and brimming with faith in his Pokémon.

"Blas!"

Blastoise crouched, then leaped forward with surprising speed, its head aimed like a battering ram.

"Too slow! Sneasel, dodge! Use Screech, then follow up with Slash!"

"You won't have the chance! Blastoise, counter with Rapid Spin and finish it with Hydro Pump!"

Blastoise's Skull Bash barely missed as Sneasel evaded, letting out a piercing screech that momentarily disoriented Blastoise. The turtle Pokémon retaliated by withdrawing into its shell, spinning at high speed to collide with Sneasel.

Sneasel's glowing claws struck the spinning shell but were deflected due to the sheer difference in strength. The impact sent Sneasel flying into an icy protrusion with a pained cry.

Blastoise, sensing an opportunity, emerged and fired a double Hydro Pump from its cannons.

"Sneasel, use Protect!"

At the last moment, Sneasel's eyes snapped open, a blue shield forming around it as the water cannons blasted through. 

The attack carved deep trenches into the ice, and the high pace exchange left Blastoise heaving from exertion.

"Where's Sneasel?" Ice Florian looked at the shattered ice in confusion, but Liam's calm expression unnerved him.

"Snea!"

Suddenly, the ice behind Blastoise exploded as Sneasel emerged, leaping onto Blastoise's back and gripping its shell tightly.

"What?! That's impossible! I saw it get hit head-on with Hydro Pump!" Ice Florian exclaimed in disbelief.

Blastoise tried shaking Sneasel off but couldn't dislodge it.

"Use Slash repeatedly!"

Sneasel released one claw, which began glowing brightly before slashing at Blastoise's head. The repeated attacks caused Blastoise to stagger, unable to retaliate effectively as it flailed.

Finally, after one last powerful strike, Blastoise collapsed with a groan, its eyes swirling in defeat.
