Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Codename Viridian Green
Not sure which words touched Giovanni's heart, Gary was pulled along in a daze as they exited the elevator.
"Aren't you going to participate in the Indigo League? If you have time, train here for a while. Once you've made some progress, I'll help you practice," Giovanni said gently while standing in the elevator.
Gary awkwardly nodded; that tone of voice was a bit intimidating, Uncle. I'm not your son!!
After exiting the elevator, Gary and Giovanni arrived at a warehouse filled with iron cages.
"Giovanni!" A burly man with a scarred face and dressed in combat gear approached them.
"Hmm, Viper, this is Green, my… relative. Do you have any good stuff? I want to give the young one a welcome gift," Giovanni said casually.
"Yes!" Viper nodded respectfully. "Giovanni, Young Master Green, this way please!"
Gary rolled his eyes; this was going to be hard to explain later…
Walking through the corridor, the three of them stopped in front of a cage.
Several shivering Pokémon were waiting inside the iron cage.
"Take a look; see if there's anything you like." Giovanni smiled slightly, which felt quite eerie…
"What is this?!" Gary exclaimed in surprise. There were six little creatures in the cage.
They were Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Fennekin, Chespin, and Froakie!
"Where did these come from?" Gary asked curiously.
"Oh, these were sent from the Unova region; they're supposedly starter Pokémon for new trainers from Unova and Kalos," Viper explained.
"Wow~ Uncle Giovanni, your reach is impressive," Gary raised an eyebrow.
"Hmph~ If it weren't for the champions from Hoenn and Sinnoh being too strong, those trash organizations from those regions wouldn't even be worthy of comparison with Team Rocket!" Giovanni said proudly.
Gary couldn't help but grin; look at what Steven and Cynthia have been protecting!
"So, do you like any of them?" Giovanni asked casually.
"They're all too small; they won't be of much use to me." Gary shook his head.
Hearing this, Viper let out a sigh of relief. "Then we'll reward these few to the top trainers at the training camp as planned."
Giovanni nodded. "Let's do that."
Suddenly, a crunching sound caught Gary's attention.
"What's that—Tyranitar?" Gary's eyes lit up; it had deep purple coloration—desert tyrant!
Giovanni smirked. "Good eye; he's yours now."
"Really?" Gary's eyes sparkled. This was a solid candidate for a pseudo-legendary Pokémon; Giovanni was generous!
"Hungry!" Tyranitar glared at Gary menacingly.
"Wow, quite the personality—I like it," Gary replied with a smile.
Giovanni took out a luxury ball and captured Tyranitar before handing it to Gary. "He's yours now; how you tame him is your business."
Gary accepted the luxury ball with a smile, thinking silently: If he misbehaves, just give him a few spankings!
"Alright, now that you've chosen one, let me show you something impressive." Giovanni wore a smug expression.
Gary raised an eyebrow; as expected, Giovanni was probably planning to showcase Mewtwo next.
Sure enough, Giovanni led Gary directly to the innermost secret room.
With fingerprint recognition and triple unlocking of the door, the heavy entrance opened up.
A puff of white smoke filled the air as an armored Pokémon covered in steel appeared before Gary in a low-temperature environment, cables protruding from its back.
"This is Team Rocket's greatest masterpiece—a Pokémon born for battle: Mewtwo," Giovanni said with his hands in his pockets, unaware of what it meant to be an opponent.
Gary glanced at Giovanni; too bad he only pulled an experience card for Mewtwo.
"Can I get closer to take a look?" Gary asked.
Giovanni frowned. "It's best not to. Even with the psychic dampener on it, its psychic power could instantly tear you apart."
"It's fine~" A layer of green light enveloped Gary. "No Pokémon would want to harm me."
Giovanni chuckled softly. "I forgot that you're now the holder of Viridian Force."
With Giovanni's permission, Gary stepped forward slowly.
"Who are you?!" Mewtwo's steel mask lit up with blue light.
"I am Gary—hello, my friend." Gary calmed himself and responded inwardly.
"Gary… who is that? Who am I?" Mewtwo conveyed its slightly conflicted feelings to Gary.
"I'm just a passing traveler and your friend," Gary replied sincerely from his heart.
"Friend~ I sense a warm power from you. I believe in you… What then is my purpose for existing?" Mewtwo asked anxiously.
"The meaning of existence is something everyone and every Pokémon seeks; it's something only you can discover for yourself. You are you—Mewtwo~ If I had to explain it, your father should be Mew."
"Father~ Is that the kind of power you carry?" Mewtwo's mask flickered with blue light beneath it.
On Gary's chest, a purple crystal pulsed rhythmically with his breath—synchronizing perfectly—
"I think I need to leave now. That human cannot confine me!" Mewtwo's thoughts began to ripple with agitation.
Giovanni frowned slightly as he tightened his grip on the Poké Ball in his pocket.
"Don't rush~ You've just been born; as a young king, you aren't strong enough to face the world yet. What you need to do is sleep peacefully until you're ready to bear your banner and return home."
"Thank you… friend—we shall meet again…"
Mewtwo was moved by Gary's words as its blue psychic energy gradually faded away.
Gary also withdrew from their connection state and let out a sigh of relief.
Giovanni lowered his hand as well. "So? Does it acknowledge you?"
Gary shrugged. "As expected for Pokémon at this level; they should be called divine beasts—it won't be easy to get close!"
Giovanni smirked slightly. "Of course! For it, I sacrificed an entire base on New Island. It is Team Rocket's ultimate trump card."
Gary chuckled silently; sorry Uncle Giovanni, while you've been generous toward me, it doesn't belong to you—though Team Rocket created God, they've overexerted themselves—
Above divinity lies forces beyond human control…
"Well then, your eyes have been opened; now go train! I have other matters to attend to." After bringing Gary back to the office, Giovanni clapped his hands together.
Matori respectfully presented him with a white suit adorned with golden R lettering and a mechanical Mewtwo mask.
"From now on, you are Team Rocket's fifth general—codename Viridian Green. You can use the training room at our base freely. There will be specialized trainers and nutritionists available for nurturing Ground-type Pokémon."
"You just focus on training well."
"Matori, grant Green all access permissions for executives—one rank below me!" Giovanni said calmly from his office chair without allowing any objections.
"Understood, boss." Matori nodded and approached Gary respectfully.
"This just got interesting~" Draping the coat over himself and donning the mask, Gary smiled playfully.
"Matori will take care of you from here on out; I'll take my leave." Passing through the bookshelf behind him, Giovanni headed straight toward a helipad and boarded a helicopter before departing.
Below the helicopter hung another Poké Ball containing mechanical Mewtwo.
It seemed that Giovanni was also adapting to using Mewtwo's capabilities.
"Young Master Green, would you like to eat first or rest first? Or shall we prepare your direct team?" Matori politely asked.
Gary looked up and down at Matori in her office attire. "First send any Pokémon needing training to the training room. As for me—I have nothing planned today; find two members who can dance girl group choreography so we can go back and listen to some music~"
Matori's mouth twitched slightly. "Alright…"
