Pokemon: Hundredfold Power Surge

Chapter 34: CHAPTER 33

033 Qin Yun's Fighting Style, I Don't Understand!

Hearing this, the principal of No. 2 Middle School couldn't help but frown.

"Hmph, the combined rewards for the second and third places are less than half of those for the first place."

"But I have two spots in the top three."

The principal of No. 6 Middle School smirked, seeing through the attempt to downplay the achievement. He simply let the words hang, making the headmaster of No. 2 Middle School's expression darken further.

Ma Xiao's lips curled slightly. These young ones are too impatient.

Back when he was in charge, the No. 2 Middle School principal wasn't even around. And now, this newcomer dared to act proud in front of him.

"Still, I hope I get a surprise today."

A gleam flickered in Ma Xiao's eyes.

The Battle Begins

When the referee signaled the start of the match, neither Qin Yun nor Wang Qiu made the first move.

Wang Qiu's Ivysaur wasn't known for speed. His battle style was more like a fortress standing firm and countering attacks methodically.

The advantage of attacking first or second wasn't particularly large. However, if Wang Qiu's Ivysaur struck first with Sleep Powder, it could significantly weaken its opponent. The problem was, Sleep Powder's accuracy wasn't great unless paired with restrictive tactics.

"Aren't you going to attack first?" Wang Qiu asked, raising an eyebrow.

Qin Yun smirked, already seeing through Wang Qiu's strategy.

"But I don't plan on winning too quickly. This battle is mainly to train Fomantis."

Yes, Qin Yun's goal wasn't just to win it was to refine Fomantis' skills. Ivysaur was an excellent opponent, making it a perfect training opportunity.

And even if Fomantis lost, Qin Yun still had Kirlia in reserve. Despite being an Intermediate Entry-level Pokémon, Kirlia's actual combat strength was formidable enough to contend with peak Entry-level Pokémon.

"Fomantis, use Leafage!"

Fomantis chirped and launched a flurry of sharp leaves toward Ivysaur.

A professional commentator was present for the match.

"Qin Yun's Fomantis uses Leafage as its opening move."

"But this might be a miscalculation. Ivysaur has a 4× resistance to Grass-type attacks, meaning it'll barely take any damage. Combined with its impressive defenses, this move will likely be ineffective."

Just as expected, Wang Qiu let out a sneer.

"Ivysaur, take the hit."

The flurry of leaves pelted Ivysaur, but the Pokémon stood firm completely unfazed. The attack was nothing more than a light breeze.

"Qin Yun, is this all you've got? How disappointing."

Wang Qiu scoffed, already feeling the match was in his favor.

"What's the rush?" Qin Yun smiled. "The real battle is just getting started."

Qin Yun wasn't using Leafage for damage he had another plan entirely.

"Keep attacking with Leafage, Fomantis. Focus on the feeling of releasing the move."

Qin Yun's calm voice guided Fomantis.

"Boring trick. Ivysaur, Vine Whip! End this fight."

Two Vine Whips lashed toward Fomantis. Though both Pokémon resisted each other's moves, Fomantis had lower durability if struck directly, it would still take significant damage.

"Shave!"

At the last second, Fomantis darted to the side, dodging with remarkable agility.

Ivysaur swung its Vine Whips again, sweeping toward Fomantis.

"No matter how fast you are, you'll eventually slip up."

Wang Qiu was confident. He believed Fomantis had no way to truly threaten Ivysaur. As long as he kept up the pressure, a mistake was inevitable.

"Fomantis, remember the feeling from this morning while dodging."

Qin Yun's words echoed in Fomantis' mind. The feeling from this morning…?

For a moment, Fomantis hesitated, trying to recall.

That brief distraction was all Wang Qiu needed.

"Gotcha!"

Ivysaur's Vine Whip struck, hitting Fomantis head-on.

"Now, grab it and use Take Down!"

Ivysaur lunged. Take Down was a powerful Normal-type move with a base power of 90. Even though it lacked the Grass-type STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), it would deal massive damage to a frail Pokémon like Fomantis.

"Fomantis!" Qin Yun's voice held urgency.

Just as Ivysaur was about to land the decisive blow, something changed.

Fomantis' eyes flashed with sudden realization.

The morning sensation it wasn't just a memory; it was instinct.

Leaves danced around Fomantis.

"Leafage!"

But this time, Qin Yun didn't issue the command.

Fomantis acted on its own, launching another wave of Leafage.

However, this attack felt… different. The leaves moved more sharply, with greater precision as if they were extensions of Fomantis itself.

Leafage swirled chaotically, seemingly ineffective until a small garland of leaves formed beneath Ivysaur's feet, tangling one of its legs.

The momentary distraction was enough. Ivysaur faltered.

"What?!"

Wang Qiu watched as his Pokémon stumbled just before it could land Take Down.

That slight misstep allowed Fomantis to dodge the attack completely.

"Excellent. Fomantis, keep using Leafage!"

Qin Yun could see it now Fomantis was entering the zone.

This morning, Fomantis had been close to unlocking a special battle state a mode where its instincts merged seamlessly with its attacks. Now, in the middle of combat, it had finally touched on that sensation.

"Create your own forest where there is none."

Qin Yun smirked.

Had Fomantis been able to learn Grassy Terrain, this would have been even more effective—turning the battlefield into its own domain. Perhaps he could purchase the move from the System Store later.

Looks like I need to make more money. Otherwise, I won't be able to equip my Pokémon properly.

As Fomantis continued attacking, Leafage drifted throughout the battlefield, filling the air with a natural aura.

It wasn't just an attack it was an environment shift.

This was beneficial for both Fomantis and Ivysaur, as both were Grass-types. But Qin Yun wasn't just making the battlefield more favorable he was guiding Fomantis to sharpen its instincts further.

The Audience Watches in Confusion

"What is Qin Yun doing?"

The spectators were baffled.

His tactics were completely unconventional they had never seen a battle fought this way.

Even Wang Qiu felt uncertain now.

What's going on?

He glanced at the Leafage wreath still lingering on the ground.

When did that even appear…?

"This doesn't make sense…"

He felt like he was starting to grasp something but at the same time, he had no idea what Qin Yun was planning.
