pokemon Fighting Dreamers

In our last chapter Ash re-encountered with Cilan and Burgundy, he also won his first badge against Milo and his second badge is on the way since Nessa wants to take him back to Hulbury personally.

''There, that's my Limo.'' Nessa pointed at the vehicle which was roughly 30 feet long. ''Mind going first, Ash?''

''Uh, sure.'' Ash opened the door and inside the Limo there was a woman wearing a sleeveless white shirt, a pair of blue jeans and sunglasses, her skin was pale and she had long black hair.

''How do you do, Ash?'' The woman asked.

''Do I know you?'' Ash asked back. 'What's with everyone wearing sunglasses indoors?' He thought.

''Take a good look.'' She took off her glasses revealing her two BIG grey eyes.

''I...Valerie?!'' Ash exclaimed surprised, he would never mistake those eyes, but the clothes that the Fairy Gym Leader was wearing were totally contrary to the things she normally uses and designs.

''Tres bien! I'm glad you recognized me.'' She said as Ash sat infront of her.

''Yup, I brought her with me to see our battle in person.'' Nessa said sitting next to Ash. ''She also accepted to be my guest in the league.''

''Another friend of yours?'' Bea asked to Ash sitting on his other side.

''Yes, Valerie is a Gym Leader I fought in Kalos.''

''Did you say...Oh my GOSH! It's Valerie!'' Burgundy exclaimed jumping to sit next to the fashion designer. ''My name is Burgundy, I'm a big fan, is truly an honneur to meet you person.''

''Oh, parlez-vous français?'' Valerie said with a giggle. ''Ou faites-vous partie de ces personnes tristes et ennuyeuses qui n'utilisent que quelques mots français pour se sentir classe et supérieure, essayant de rendre leur douloureuse existence un peu meilleure?''

''...Oui?'' Burgundy started to cry dramatically as she didn't understand a word of what Valerie just said.

''Seems like she's got you, Burgundy.'' Cilan comforted his girlfriend sitting next to her. ''My name is Cilan, is an honor as well.''

''It's nice to see you again, Valerie.'' Ash said. ''Although it's kinda weird to see you in normal clothes...Sorry, I didn't mean to offend.''

''No offense taken, Ash.'' Valerie said laughing a bit. ''In fact, I've been trying to remake that suit and while I'm at it, I decided to try more humble clothes like this, I'll also stay with Nessa for a while to take a break from the big city, maybe a change of perspective could give me the ideas I need, even I have to admit that my Gym outfit is a bit too...portentous.''

''A bit? That things weights like 35 pounds!'' Nessa said remembering the time she tried to wear said outfit and she couldn't even get up.

''Is very expensive as well.'' Burgundy added. ''From what I've heard your dress alone costs more than 2,000,000, is that true?''

''Yes, indeed. But tell me, Ash, after all that big commotion in Kalos, how you've been doing?''

''I've been doing well, thanks for asking.''

''Alright Ash, this are my conditions for the Gym match: We'll have a 4v4 battle but you can't use any Electric or Grass type Pokemon, deal?''

''No Grass or Electric Types, understood.'' Ash accepted the conditions.

''No Grass or Electric against a Water Gym?'' Bea asked. ''Don't you think that's unfair?''

''Pfft, this is Ash Ketchum we're talking about.'' Nessa laughed perfectly aware of Ash's record. ''He can handle that, right?''

''Of course!'' Ash answered excited for the challenge.

''Then we'll have our battle tomorrow at 3:00 PM, you better don't keep me waiting.'' An idea then flew through Nessa's head. ''Although that makes me think, maybe you could stay at my mansion.''

''Your mansion?'' Ash asked.

''Yes, there's plenty of space,'' Nessa said. ''But some of the rooms are being remodeled right now, so some of us might need to share rooms.''

''No, thanks, we'll be staying at the center.'' Bea said.

''Oh, are you sure?'' Nessa asked.

''Yeah...totally sure.'' Bea answered looking steadily at her. ''We wouldn't want to be some kind of inconvenience to you.''

An extremely uncomfortable tension could be felt in the place as both girls kept staring at each other with poor Ash in the middle of all that.

''I bet you 20 berries that Bea will at least try to punch her at some point before we left Hulbury.'' Cinderace said to Pikachu who was sitting on her lap.

''You're on.'' The mouse accepted the bet.

''I didn't know Ash was...em...how should I say it?'' Burgundy wondered. ''Popular with the girls?''

''I don't think he knows that himself.'' Cilan added.

''When I met him in Kalos he was traveling with a girl called Serena, I think she also fell on Ash's little love web.'' Valerie added as well while laughing.

''Uh...Hey, Ash, I was thinking...'' Cilan decided to talk and try to calm down the situation before it was too late. ''How about we have a double battle, Burgundy and I against Bea and you.''

''Sounds good to me.'' Ash replied. ''What do you think, Bea?''

''I'm in.'' She answered pausing her staring contest with Nessa to look at Ash. ''A double battle alongside you will be truly fun.''

After roughly an hour of menacing and awkward looks, the Limo made it to Hulbury, Nessa and Valerie left Ash and co. at the Pokemon Center and both teams were already on each side of the battlefield.

''So, are your friends good battlers?'' Bea asked to Ash.

''Well, Cilan was a Gym leader so he is very strong, but Burgundy is not that much, if I remember correctly, every time she entered a tournament she was eliminated in the first round, now that I think about it, I've never seen her win a battle so-''

''Hey! Don't forget I'm listening!'' The purple-haired shouted from their side of the field.

''Oh, sorry Burgundy...'' Ash apologized.

''Let's begin then.'' Cilan said. ''Pansage, would you lend us a hand?''

''Pan!'' Pansage jumped from Cilan's arm and stood in battlefield.

''Monferno, Brûlons-les!'' Burgundy then released the Fire monkey which stood next to Pansage greeting him.

''So you got a Monferno...'' Ash said with a nostalgic smile. ''It's been a while since the last time I saw one.''

''Burgundy caught her as a Chimchar during our trip to Kalos.'' Cilan explained. ''Since then, Monferno and Pansage haven been double battle buddies.''

''Indeed, they work very nice together.'' Burgundy added.

''Alright, Oshawott, I choose you!'' Ash called out the otter with scalchop on hand.

''I'll go with Rufflet.'' Bea released the avian who instantly flew to her shoulder.

''He really likes your shoulder, matey.'' Ash said jokingly.

''Haha!'' Bea laughed sarcastically. ''Ready, Rufflet?''

''Ruff!'' The bird flew off the girl's shoulder and landed next to Oshawott.

''Looks like everyone's ready, Rufflet, Aerial Ace on Pansage!''

''Oshawott, use Hydro Pump on Monferno!''

The Pokemon performed their moves at the same time, however, since their targets were so close, the attacks crossed with each other and Rufflet was the one who received the Hydro Pump.

''Ash!'' Bea shouted.

''Me? You were on the way!'' Ash shouted back.

While Ash and Bea were arguing, Cilan and Burgundy decided to make their moves.

''Monferno, Mach Punch on Rufflet!''

''Pansage, Shadow Claw on Oshawott!''

Both attacks hit their marks perfectly as Oshawott and Rufflet were tossed back a few feet.

''We have to focus...Oshawott, Aqua Jet on Monferno!''

''Rufflet, Brave Bird on Pansage!''

''Jump up!'' Both Burgundy and Cilan said in unison as the monkeys jumped together avoiding the attacks and making Oshawott and Rufflet crash with each other.

''Not again...'' Ash and Bea said at the same time.

''Looks like they're having trouble.'' Cilan mentioned looking at Ash and Bea.

''Perhaps we should show them how we work together.'' Burgundy suggested. ''I think we should give them a little pluie de météore.''

''As you say! Pansage, use Rock Tomb!'' Pansage raised his hands summoning several rocks that fell from the sky.

''Monferno, Fire Punch!'' The Fire Pokemon's fist were covered by flames as it started punching the rocks that Pansage summoned firing them up like meteors against the enemy team.

''Oshawott, use Razor Shell to destroy the rocks!''

''Rufflet, help Oshawott with Crush Claw!''

The pokemon moved fast and managed to successfully stop every upcoming rock leaving nothing but pebbles.

''Alright! It worked!'' Ash rejoiced.

''Let's try to attack together now.'' Bea offered.

''Oshawott, Aqua Jet on Monferno!''

''Rufflet, Aerial Ace on Monferno too!''

''Pansage, protect Monferno with Spiky Shield!'' Pansage jumped infront of Monferno and put his hand infront of him creating a green force field covered by spikes that damaged both Oshawott and Rufflet as they made contact with it.

''Oh, merci, Monferno, Mach Punch!''

Pansage dropped the shield and Monferno landed two strong punches on Rufflet's and Oshawott's faces.

''Double Shadow Claw on Oshawott!'' Both Burgundy and Cilan shouted as the monkeys put their hands together and were covered by shadows jumping towards the otter.

''Rufflet, take the hit!'' The avian flew to infront of Oshawott to take the hit and thanks to his Type immunity, he was not damaged at all.

''Wow, thanks, Bea.''

''Uh...yes, I honestly forgot Rufflet was a Normal Type.''

''Seems like they're finally getting it.'' Cilan said.

''That's good, so I think it's time for our little spécial.'' Burgundy suggested.

''Yup, I agree, let's give them a taste.''

''Monferno, Fire Pledge!''

''Pansage, Grass Pledge!''

Both Pokemon raised their fists together and then punched the ground creating green and red energy columns respectively, Oshawott and Rufflet were surrounded by the columns and these then exploded as the field was surrounded by a grassy terrain that was burning the ground.

''OSHA!'' The otter screamed as it feet burned.

''Tell us, what do you think about our little Mer de flammes?''

''When two Pledge moves are used together they will create a unique secondary effect.'' Cilan explained.

''Rufflet, grab Oshawott with you claws!'' The avian descended and raised Oshawott with his claws taking him away from the burning ground.

''Phew, thanks, Bea.''

''No problem, but what do we do now? Rufflet can't carry Oshawott forever.''

''I say we should try a combined move as well.'' Ash suggested

''What do you have in mind?''

''Rufflet and Oshawott are both in the air, so that gives me an idea, have you seen a show called Slugmaterra?''

''Yes, why...oh, I think I know what you want to do.''

''Waterspout?'' Ash asked.

''Waterspout!'' Bea confirmed the idea.

''Hmm, what are they talking about?'' Burgundy asked.

''I don't know, but you said it yourself, with Ash you have to expect the unexpected.''

''Rufflet, Aerial Ace!''

''Oshawott, Aqua Jet!''

Both Pokemon performed the attacks at the same time combining their impulse reaching a great speed.

''Pansage, Spiky Shield.'' The Grass monkey once again summoned a shield to protect his partner and himself.

''Rufflet, rise up and go for a Brave Bird!'' Right before hitting the shield, Rufflet flew up turning the Aerial Ace into a Brave Bird increasing their speed.

''Use Hydro Pump to impulse you further!'' Oshawott shot an huge column of water to the ground to increase their height and speed even...further...beyond.

''Now spin together!'' Both Ash and Bea shouted as their Pokemon rotated still performing their attacks creating a huge columnar vortex of water that approached the monkeys at a very high speed.

''Pansage, another Spiky Shield!'' Pansage successfully created the shield but it didn't take long until the waterspout destroyed with the force of its winds, sucking Monferno and Pansage into its inside and all the way up as they were washed over by the water and spun around by the winds, after roughly 30 seconds, the waterspout started to decay and finally stopped, Rufflet and Oshawott were both tired but the avian was still holding his partner into the air, while Monferno and Pansage crashed the ground and fainted.

''We won!'' Ash exclaimed.

''Alright, that's our first victory together!'' Bea said rejoiced.

''Yup, but it won't be the last!''

''You seemed kinda lost at the beginning.'' Cilan said as he retrieved Pansage. ''But in the end you managed to mix properly and win the fight, well done!''

''That was a pretty agréable battle indeed.''

''So, Ash, do you already know which Pokemon you'll be using in your second Gym match?'' Bea asked.

''Yes, But I would like to keep it as a surprise, since you guys have never met the Pokemon I'm going to use.''

''That's good I guess.'' Bea said. ''But are you sure you want to have another Gym battle Tomorrow, you had one literally a few hours ago.''

''Yes, I'm totally sure, besides I wouldn't want to disappoint Nessa, she said she's been looking forward to our battle.''

''Pfft, Nessa, Nessa, Nessa.'' Bea muttered angrily.

Next day, 2:30 PM

''Alright, get me in my Poke Ball.'' Cinderace said to Bea as they made their way to the Hulbury Stadium.

''You don't want to watch the battle?'' her trainer asked.

''Bea, this is a Water Type Gym, no thanks, I want to live.''

''But the barrier is going to protect the crowd.''

''You say that, but after that Pikachu's Surf I'm not taking any risks, But I'll tell you this, don't let that girl Nessa steal your Ash from you.''

''My Ash?'' Bea raised an eyebrow and Cinderace sighed.

''Yes, your Ash, Bea, you only get more obvious every day, what's the point in denying it?''

''...Sigh, just get in your Poke Ball and shut up.'' Bea said as the rabbit was retrieved. 'Am I really getting obvious?' She thought.

''Hey, Bea, can I ask you something?'' Ash said before they entered the Gym.

''Sure, what do you need?''

''Since I won't be using Pikachu for this battle, could you take care of him?''

''Of course, Ash.'' She answered happy that Ash trusted her something like his Pikachu. ''Leave it to me.''

''Right, buddy, you'll be staying with Bea.''

''Pika.'' The rodent jumped from Ash's shoulder to Bea's as the boy made his way to the locker room.

''Why the smile, Bea?'' Burgundy asked to her.

''Uh! ...Nothing, it's just... Ash and I met in this stadium actually.''

''Oh, did you had a battle?''

''No...It's a bit embarrassing... I was training with Cinderace, Ash then came to the stadium and tried to talk to me, he took me by surprise and I... I smacked him onto the ground.''

''You what?''

''I-I didn't hurt him, really! It was just a reflex and I apologized immediately.''

''Well, that's quite the meeting.''

''Yeah...''

Bea, Burgundy and Cilan then made their way to the stands as everyone prepared for the battle.

''Greetings, Pokefans, David here.'' The announcer presented himself. ''And welcome to the re-opening of the Hulbury Gym, after one month of hiatus our Leader finally came back from Kalos and we have quite the challenger as well, so let us start.''

''On one side of the battlefield, our Hulbury Gym Leader, The Raging Wave, NESSA!''

''And on the other side, coming directly from his victory against Milo in Turffield, Gym Challenger, ASH KETCHUM!''

Both trainers made their way to the center of the battlefield and stood infront of each other.

''Hey, I didn't see Valerie in the stands.'' Ash said. ''Do you know where she is?''

''Oh, she stayed in the mansion doing a request for a costumer.'' Nessa answered. ''But don't worry, I'm sure she'll watch the battle on the TV, so tell me, Ash, how do I look?'' She asked while doing a rather suggestive pose.

''Uh, well, you look really good... Are those floaties on your shoes?''

''Perceptive as always, huh?''

''Sorry.'' He apologized.

''Don't be Ash, are you ready to take it down low?''

''Of course I am!''

''Well, that's good to hear, believe me when I say that the last thing I want to do is to leave that cute face of yours swollen and crying, But I don't have any plans of losing a battle today, so I'll be going all-out on you.''

''I wouldn't have it any other way.''

''Look at the bright side, if you lose, you can always try again and we'll spent more time together.'' Nessa gave Ash a small wink and the referee started to do his announcement.

''This will be an official Gym battle between the Gym Leader Nessa and The Gym Challenger Ash Ketchum, it will be a four on four match with switches and Dynamax allowed and the Challenger cannot use any Grass or Electric Type Pokemon during the battle, Did I made myself clear?'' Both Ash and Nessa nodded to the question.

''Trainers, take your positions and release your first Pokemon!''

''Let's dive in, Ash!'' Nessa showed a Net Ball and raised a leg preparing herself to toss it. ''Golisopod, on stage!'' The samurai appeared in the middle of the battlefield on a defensive posture.

''GOLISOPOD?!'' The announcer exclaimed surprised. ''Nessa isn't playing around people, this is gonna hurt!''

''You see Ash.'' Nessa talked to him. ''I don't tend to take Gym battles too seriously, I would face normal Challengers with simple things like a Goldeen or a Krabby, but you are not a normal Challenger, are you?''

''Heh, I guess not.'' Ash admitted.

''I'm gonna make you work for that badge.''

''You're just making me even more excited! Bring it on!'' Ash pulled out a Poke Ball and he then tossed it to the skies while shouting. ''Hawlucha, I choose you!'' The luchador came out of the Poke Ball flying up to the highest point of the stadium and then made a dive on the field with a powerful Three-point landing that blew up some dust.

''Wooo, Superhero landing!'' The announcer said excited.

''Oh yeah, Valerie told me about this one.'' Nessa said looking at Ash's Pokemon. ''Get ready, Ash, I'll leave you breathless!''

''Pun intended?'' Ash asked.

''Pun intended.'' Nessa admitted raising her shoulders.

''If both trainers are ready, then the battle begins now!''

''Golisopod, First Impression!'' Dashing so fast that it looked as if it teleported, Golisopod appeared infront of Hawlucha and tried to stab him with its claws.

''Jump up!'' Hawlucha quickly jumped avoiding the attack. ''Now Flying Press!'' Hawlucha was surrounded by an orange aura as he left himself fall, diving onto Golisopod, crashing the bug down and quickly jumping back keeping its distance.

''Liquidation!'' Golisopod's claws were covered by water as they turned into blades.

''Fight back with Dual Wingbeat!'' Hawlucha's claws and wings glowed white and he used them as edges to block Golisopod's slashes,after a few back and forth, Hawlucha's superior speed managed to land two clean cuts on Golisopod's face, causing the bug to cover it in pain, giving Hawlucha an opening.

''Flying Press!'' Hawlucha jumped and then dived down onto Golisopod pushing him back a few feets.

''Golisopod, Poison Jab!'' Golisopod's claws glowed purple as it tried to stab Hawlucha with them.

''Block it with Iron Head!'' Hawlucha's head was covered by metal as he used it to block the Poison move, preventing him from taking any damage. ''Now Dual Wingbeat!'' Hawlucha landed two more slashes on Golisopod's face making it fall back.

''Hawlucha is having a glorious domination of this fight!'' The announcer shouted. ''Golisopod simply can't catch up to El Macho, ahahaha!''

''Haw!'' The Flying Type made several poses showing off his muscles.

''SOPOD!'' The samurai Pokemon shouted annoyed, it then turned back to Nessa and returned to its Poke ball on its own.

''Y se marcho...'' The announcer sang. ''...y a su barco le llamo...Emergency Exit, well, it wouldn't be the first time I see a tall muscular dude running away from a bird, what's Nessa gonna do next?''

''Glad to know I'm not the only one going all-out.'' Nessa said while preparing a Dive Ball. ''Barbaracle, on stage!'' The Rock/Water Pokemon stood infront of Hawlucha crossing its arms.''

''Barbaracle! Another one of Nessa's strongest Pokemon!'' The announcer shouted. ''She truly doesn't want to give Ash that badge!''

''Let's start with Shell Smash!'' Nessa ordered as Barbaracle was was surrounded by a white aura, the aura than then cracked and exploded breaking into pieces.

''Here it comes.'' The announcer started to explain. ''Barbaracle has raised Speed and Attack power sacrificing a bit of Defenses, Can hawlucha keep his advantage?''

''Ash could be in trouble...'' Cilan said from the stands.

''I've never seen that move before.'' Bea said.

''One of my Pokemon can use Shell Smash and I must admit it can be a real game changer, Ash has to play smart now.''

''Stone Edge!'' Barbaracle stomped the ground creating a trail of rocks that rose along the ground towards Hawlucha.

''Hawlucha, take flight and go for a Flying Press!'' Hawlucha jumped to dive in, but thanks to its enhanced speed, Barbaracle quickly dodged the move and Hawlucha crashed into the ground.

''Razor Shell!'' One of Barbaracle's claws glowed blue and turned into a blade .

''Dual Wingbeat!'' Hawlucha got up and just like he did against Golisopod, he used the edges of his wings to block the cuts and fight back, but Barbaracle quickly got the upper hand and launched Hawlucha flying back with a cut.

''Barbaracle, Cross Chop!'' The barnacle crossed its arms and a trail of light in the form of an 'X' was formed to attack Hawlucha with it .

''Hawlucha, X-Scissor!'' Doing a similar pose, Hawlucha blocked the attack, after a power struggle, Barbaracle ended up winning and sending Hawlucha flying against the wall.

''Hawlucha, please return.'' Ash said seeing how Hawlucha was having trouble to get back up.

''Haw!'' Hawlucha shook his head refusing.

''Don't worry, I'll call you again soon, take a rest for now.''

''Cha...'' Hawlucha gave in and accepted being retrieved, Ash then searched for another Poke Ball.

''Riolu, I choose you!''

''RIO!'' The canine came out of the Poke Ball on its usual fighting stance.

''Alright, Ash has called a switch.'' The announcer said. ''Let's see is Riolu is enough to handle this.''

''Barbaracle, Stone Edge!''

''Go up with Vacuum Wave!''

As Barbaracle stomped the ground again, Riolu quickly launched the wave to the ground flying over the trail of rocks and landing infront of Barbaracle.

''Now Sky Uppercut!'' Riolu jumped perfoming a strong upper hit on the barbarian's face.

''Cross Chop!''

''Dodge it with Quick Attack!'' Riolu glided along the ground under Barbaracle avoiding the attack, the canine then jumped with a Quick-Attack-boosted shoulder tackle hitting Barbaracle in the Back.

''Barbaracle, Razor Shell!''

''Copycat!'' Riolu looked at the move as he was surrounded by a blue aura and imitated it blocking Barbaracle's slash, after a few clashes, Riolu jumped and managed to land a clean slash on Barbaracle's face, Riolu then thanked Oshawott on his mind.

''Cross Chop!'' Barbaracle crossed it arms and Riolu tried to block it with the Razor Shell, after a short power struggle, Barbaracle broke Riolu's blade and crashed the small canine onto the ground.

''Now Stone Edge!'' Barbaracle stomped the ground infront of Riolu, summoning a stone that send the canine flying up. ''Jump and Razor Shell!'' The barnacle jumped high and then slashed Riolu downwards crashing against the Stone Edge.

''Cross Chop!'' Still mid-air Barbaracle crossed its arms falling on top of Riolu destroying the stone beneath him blowing up dust, the dust then cleared and Riolu was down, face to battlefield, after a few seconds Riolu still didn't move a muscle.

''Looks like Riolu is done for!'' The announcer shouted.

''Riolu is unable to-'' The referee was about to announce but he was stopped by a bark.

''RIO!'' The canine got up despite the pain and looked at Barbaracle who was taunting him.

''Riolu's still on board!'' The announcer shouted again.

''Riolu, return!'' Ash pulled out his Poke Ball and was about to retrieve Riolu, but the Fighting Type barked in disagreement.

''...No...'' A voice echoed in Ash's mind, it was weaker than the one he heard during his fight with Milo, but Ash still heard it loud and clear and unlike the first one who seemed to come out of nowhere, this one felt like it was coming from an specific place, or rather, an specific Pokemon.

''Riolu?'' Ash could feel a frail energy waving from Riolu to him.

''I'm...not...done...'' The voice talked again as Riolu put his hands together.

''...What?'' Ash now was now totally sure that voice came from Riolu.

''I'M NOT DONE YET!'' Riolu's eyes glowed as he raised his arms creating a small orb of energy, the orb then started to grow and grow until it doubled the size of Barbaracle, Riolu then launched the Sphere towards Barbaracle who was unable to move frozen in fear, however just a few feet from Barbaracle the sphere started to lose size and dissolve in the air leaving nothing but a small gust to reach its target.

''Riolu just launched an enormous Aura Sphere but it failed!'' The announcer shouted as the Fighting Type, panting and exhausted, ended up falling backwards fainting.

''R-R-Riolu unable to battle! ...Barbaracle is the winner!'' The referee said extremely impressed but still trying to do his job.

'If that thing had landed...' Nessa thought. ''Barbaracle, you okay?''

''Barb!'' The Pokemon nodded finally getting over whatever that was, the Pokemon just saw his whole life flash before his eyes, it was a boring life needless to say.

''...Riolu...'' Ash stood watching the fainted Pokemon, He just used Aura Sphere, a really big one, more than that, Ash heard him, he was totally sure.

''Challenger, please release your next Pokemon.'' The referee pulled Ash out of his thoughts.

''Oh...Sure, sorry.'' Ash returned the canine as he though. 'We'll talk about this later.'

''Donphan, I choose you!'' Ash released the Ground type who came out of its Poke Ball with a triumphant trumpeting.

''Ash's third Pokemon will be Donphan!'' The announcer shouted. ''Of course this kid just brought a Ground Type to a Water Gym, why not?''

''Barbaracle, Double Razor Shell!''

''Rollout!'' Donphan jumped and curled into a ball rolling towards Barbaracle as the latter crossed its claws, after a power struggle, Donphan raised its speed, breaking the Razor Shells and knocking Barbaracle back.

''Earth Power!'' Donphan got on his hind legs while making a trumpet sound, it then brought down his front legs with force, causing the earth to shake violently as multiple eruptions came from beneath the ground towards Barbaracle.

''Stone Edge!''

Both moves crashed in the middle of the battlefield creating a huge dust explosion.

''Donphan, Ice Shard!'' The elephant raised its trunk as a white orb appeared infront of it, Donphan then blew off the orb, which turned into several small icicles that flew towards Barbaracle.

''Use Razor Shell to break them!'' Barbaracle charged the attack and cut all the icicles into pieces, however, some of the ice stuck frozen on its claws, giving Ash an idea.

''I know...use Ice Shard on his feet!'' Donphan did as told and Barbaracle was unable to move as it feet were frozen to the ground.

''Break out with Razor Shell!''

''Don't let him do it, Keep using Ice Shard!''

Both Pokemon obeyed orders and as Barbaracle tried to cut the ice, one of his arms was frozen to the groud along his legs, he tried to cut off with the other arm but the situation repeated until all of his limbs were frozen to the ground.

''Looks like Donphan won't let it go!'' The announcer shouted as people started to boo him. ''Yeah, deal with it people, I'll be here all week!''

''Hit him with Rollout!'' Donphan curled up and rolled hitting the defenseless Pokemon several times.

''Now Earth Power!'' the elephant stomped the ground again and multiple eruptions were directed to the still immobilized Barbaracle.

''Great...use Shell Smash again!'' Taking a risky move, Nessa ordered her Barbaracle to repeat its first move, said Pokemon did as told as the explosion of aura set it free from the ice, the Pokemon then quickly jumped, barely in time to avoid the Earth Power.

''Another Shell Smash!'' The announcer talked again trying to help hitting the target word count. ''Nessa saved herself from that hit, but Barbaracle is made of paper by now, one hit and goodbye!''

''Razor Shell!''

''Grab his arm with your trunk!'' Once Barbaracle was close enough, Donphan raised its trunk wrapping it around Barbarcle's arm

''It's over! Use Thunder Fang!'' Donphan tusks glowed with yellow sparks and became longer nailing inside Barbaracle's arms and releasing an electric discharge, the barnacle Pokemon screamed in pain and with its already lowered Defenses it was unable to resist the super effective hit and was left knocked out shortly with small bolts jolting from its body.

''Barbaracle is unable to battle! Donphan is the winner!'' The referee shouted as Nessa stood with a rather shocked face.

''W-W-What?! But I said-'' Nessa was about to complain but Ash quickly interrupted her.

''You said no Electric or Grass Type Pokemon.'' Ash argued with a grin. ''But Donphan here is a pure Ground Type, you didn't say anything about Grass or Electric moves on other type of Pokemon, right?''

''...You sly Thievul, you got me there.'' Nessa admitted defeated.

''Ah yes, I love legal loopholes.'' The announcer laughed. ''It took three of Ash's Pokemon, but Barbaracle is finally down!''

''Wow, Ash is pretty smart when he wants to.'' Bea said.

''That was very astucieux, I must admit.'' Burgundy said.

''Ash has truly grown a lot since we last met.'' Cilan added remembering a certain fight Ash had against an Electric Gym Leader.

''Drednaw, take the spotlight!'' With another Dive Ball Nessa called out a blue tortoise Pokemon that made a fearsome roar as it entered the field.

''And Nessa releases her ace, Drednaw!''

''Rotom?'' Ash called as the phone flew from his pocket. 'Drednaw, the bite Pokemon and the evolution of Chewtle, This Pokémon rapidly extends its retractable neck to sink its sharp fangs into distant enemies and take them down.'

''Alright, can you keep going Donphan?'' Ash asked as the Pokemon made a trumpeting sound affirming the question.

''Let's drop into the depths!'' Nessa retrieved Drednaw and activated her Dynamax band. ''Don't hold your breath, Ash... Drednaw, Gigantamax!'' The turtle came out of the Poke Ball with a much more robust appearance, now standing on its hind legs, with its head almost completely hidden on its shell. ''Get ready cutie, I'm gonna flood this place!''

''ARGH, her puns are SO GOOD!'' Milo said frustrated while watching the fight on his TV.

''Alright, Donphan.'' Ash pressed his band and like last time, it shoot several streaks of red light that flew to the battlefield and orbited around Donphan. ''Dynamax!'' As Ash Shouted, Donphan grew in size making a trumpeting noise.

''We got ourselves a Dynamax vs Gigantamax battle!'' The announcer shouted.

''Donphan, Max Hailstorm!'' Donphan raised its trunk breathing in, he then breathed out and shoot a blizzard towards the enemy.

''Block it with Max Rockfall!'' Drednaw roared causing a giant stone slab to rise from the ground infront of him, the slab blocked Donphan's attack and then fall on top of him creating a sandstorm.

''Drednaw, Max Darkness.'' Drednaw's eyes glowed in dark purple, the turtle then created a dark orb that exploded into a burst of energy.

''Donphan, use Max Rockfall to block it!'' Donphan made a trumpeting sound with his trunk and just like Drednaw did earlier, a stone slab rose from the ground and blocked the upcoming attack.

''My, my, you learn fast don't you?'' Nessa said while laughing. ''Alright, I hope you can take our little signature, Drednaw, let's send them to the Hadal Zone! G-max Stonesurge!'' Drednaw roared again, this time creating a giant wave of rocky water that rushed towards Donphan.

''Donphan, counter with Max lightning!'' Donphan raised his trunk again, shooting a giant electric bolt.

Both attacks crashed exploding in the middle of the battlefield causing the sandstorm to subside, an Electric Terrain was activated and the battlefield was filled with Stealth Rocks, both Pokemon then returned to their normal sizes.

''Well, that was fun, use Liquidation!'' Nessa shouted as Drednaw charged against Donphan covered by water.

''Ice shard!'' Donphan breathed out the ice and the turtle was left frozen on its place.

''Oh, come on!'' Nessa ranted angrily.

''Now use Earth Power!'' Donphan stomped the ground as the explosions occurred just beneath Drednaw, sending it flying up and breaking the ice as it fell back to the ground.

''Drednaw, Scale Shot!'' The turtle got up and roared as its shell glowed purple and various arrow-shaped scales came from it flying towards Donphan.

''Use Rollout to get through them.'' Donphan rolled at high speed breaking the scales with it's tire-like armor and hitting Drednaw.

''Now Thunder Wheel!'' Ash shouted.

''Thunder what?''

Donphan jumped and curled up at the same time he used Thunder Fang, while he was rolling, the move absorbed more and more energy from the Electric Terrian until Donphan was pretty much a living Electro Ball.

''Well, Shi- ...Drednaw, take the hit with Jaw Lock!'' The turtle opened its mouth as it was covered by dark energy, the Thunder Wheel crashed against Drednaw and the turtle was left fainted now without managing to land on last bite on Donphan.

''Drednaw is unable to battle! Donphan is the winner!''

''Very well... Barraskewda, on stage!'' Nessa tossed another Dive Ball, showing a long fish Pokemon with a devilish smile floating in the air.

''And Barraskewda is Nessa's final Pokemon!'' The announcer shouted as Ash looked confused at the Pokemon.

''Wait, why is it floating?'' Ash asked.

''Ash, there's a simple explanation for that.'' Nessa said.

''...''

''...''

''And that explanation is?'' Ash asked again.

''Uh...Pokemon magic?'' Nessa obviously didn't have the answer either.

''...Rotom?''

''Barraskewda, the skewer Pokemon, It spins its tail fins to propel itself, surging forward at speeds of over 100 knots before ramming prey and spearing into them...I don't kow why it's floating tho.''

''O...kay... Donphan, can you keep going?'' Ash asked as the tired Pokemon shook his head sadly. ''It's alright, you did your part, please take a rest.'' Ash tried to return Donphan but the streak of light was blocked by a dark energy that took the form of a bear trap around Donphan, the trap then close itself on Donphan damaging him.

''What was that?!'' Ash asked worried.

''Jaw Lock's secondary effect.'' Nessa answered. ''Sorry, Ash, but any try to return him will just end up causing him damage.''

''Geez, that's nasty!'' The announcer said.

''Looks like Drednaw didn't left without saying one last word.'' Cilan said.

''And Donphan is already very fatigué.'' Burgundy added.

''Poor Donphan...'' Bea said looking at the Ground Type.

''Pika...'' The mouse said sad as well.

''Damn it... I'm sorry, Donphan, but you have to stay in the fight.''

''Phan!'' The Pokemon stomped the ground and made one last trumpet noise, ready to go down fighting.

''Use Aqua Tail!'' Barraskewda quickly dashed as its tail was covered by swirling water smacking Donphan with it and knocking him back, the elephant quickly got up enduring the pain.

''Earth power!''

''Dodge it with Aqua Jet!'' Barraskewda swam in the air around the explosions, avoiding every single one of them ''Good, now use the impulse and go for a Drill Run!'' the fish rotated its body quickly and with its already high speed, it hit Donphan full-force.

''Donphan, Ice Shard!''

''Cut them with Night Slash!'' Barraskweda's tail was covered by dark energy that turned into a blade to slash the ice, the fish then made another jump and slashed through Donphan leaving him knocked out.

''Donphan is unable to battle! Barraskewda is the winner!''

''Barraskewda was just too fast!'' the announcer said. ''But Donphan didn't go down without a fight and it knocked out half of Nessa's team including her ace, this people's champion totally did his part!'' Everyone in the stadium then started clapping to Dophan yelling his name as Ash retrieved him.

''DONPHAN!''

''DONPHAN!''

''DONPHAN!''

''Thanks, Donphan, you were amazing.'' Ash said to his Poke Ball.

''Yes, he was.'' Nessa said. ''You and your Pokemon are truly an inspiration, Ash Ketchum, you surely are one of a kind.''

''Wow...I...thanks.'' Ash was honestly touched by his words.

''Well, enough sentimentalism! Show me what else do you have!''

''Alright then, Quilava, I choose you!'' The badger Pokemon came out of the Poke Ball with his flames off, the Pokemon then made a small squeal as he was damaged by the Stealth Rocks, the five red spots on its body then started to project flames as he prepared for the battle.

''A Fire Type!'' The announcer exclaimed. ''As if the Ground Type wasn't enough, this kid is insane and I like it!''

''My, this give quite the memories.'' Cilan said. ''Just like Ash fought against my Pansage using his Oshawott during our Gym battle and he actually won, Ash is not the kind of person who lets Type match-ups decide something.''

''He beat me with a Type disadvantage as well.'' Bea said. ''But I still think he should play safe, this seems a bit too risky, even for him.''

''That's Ash Ketchum for you...'' Nessa grinned as she looked at the Fire Type. ''But let's see if you can pull your usual luck, Barraskewda, Drill Run!'' The fish quickly rotated his body charging against Quilava.

''Quilava, Swift!'' Quilava opened its mouth as yellow stars come out of it and exploded on Barraskewda stoping the fish's attack.

''Use Aqua tail!''

''Flamethrower!'' Quilava opened its mouth again, this time releasing a stream of fire that turned Barreskewda's Aqua Tail into steam, stopping it again.

''Use Aqua Jet to surround him!'' Barraskewda charged the attack and started to quickly orbit around Quilava making a small whirlpool. ''Now Night Slash!'' Before Quilava could react, the fish jumped and fell from above to slash him with his tail sending him back a few feet.

''Now's you chance! Aqua Tail!''

''Quilava, use Burn Up!'' Quilava charged up heat and then exploded on an enormous flame that completely covered the battlefield leaving the whole place burned and destroying the Stealth Rocks, Barraskewda was left severely injured and Quilava's flames died down, the heat of the place could be felt even in the furthest stand and both Ash and Nessa started sweating due to the rising temperature.

''Wow, Seems like you took the hot stuff compliment a little to literal, huh?'' Nessa cleaned sweat from her forehead as she laughed.

''I don't know, did I?'' Ash said laughing as well.

''Are they flirting?'' Burgundy asked.

''Ash Ketchum...flirting...that just doesn't sound right in the same sentence.'' Cilan replied.

''Yeah... it definitely doesn't.'' Bea said.

''Ash just took a really risky move.'' The announcer said. ''That attack was insanely powerful, but Burn up comes with a price, Quilava's Fire Type is now disabled for the rest of the battle, on top of that, Quilava won't be able to use any other fire moves, but this is a Water Gym anyway, let's see how Ash plays this out.''

After a few seconds Barraskewda got up and started floating again.

''Aqua Tail!'' The move landed directly but Quilava seemed like he took no damage at all.

''No Fire Type means no weakness to Water, fellas!'' The announcer shouted and Nessa facepalmed in realization.

''Use Swift!'' The barrage of stars hit Barraskewda directly, leaving the fish on the ground, but still able to battle.

''Quilava, Wild Charge!'' The Fire starter ran at Barraskewda while its body was surrounded by yellow sparkling electricity, the energy of the attack was further increased due to the Electric Terrain, Quilava then tackled the fish causing a electric explosion that left Barraskewda knocked out and burned. some small sparks then shocked Quilava's skin, damaging him with recoil as the move ended.

''Barraskewda is unable to battle! Quilava is the winner!'' As the referee shouted, the Electric Terrain started to decay and disappeared.

''The Electric Terrain that Donphan setted is finally down, but Quilava truly made a good use of that last second of it!''

''Looks like there is no one left in these ocean depths.'' Nessa presented the Net Ball she used at the beggining of the battle. ''Golisopod, First Impression!'' As soon as the Bug Type came out of the Poke Ball, it dashed with its claws infront of him, sending the Fire starter flying over Ash's shoulder and directly to the wall, Quilava then fell fainted.

''Quilava is unable to battle! Golisopod is the winner!''

''And down it goes.'' The announcer said. ''No Fire Type means no resistance to Bug, fellas, but now Golisopod is on his own.''

''Thanks, Quilava.'' Ash returned the Fire starter as he looked for the first Poke Ball he used in the fight. ''Hawlucha, I choose you!'' The Flying fighter came out of the Poke Ball making various poses, grinning at Golisopod, happy to see they could at least end their first fight.

''Looks like this battle will end just the way it started.'' The announcer cleared his throat before shouting. ''LUCHARAAAAAAAN A DOS DE TRES CAIDAAAAAS SIN LIMITE DE TIEMPO... Well, it's only one round but you get what I mean.''

''Golisopod, Liquidation!''

''Hawlucha, X-Scissor!'' Hawlucha blocked the move and broke through Golisopod's blade, hitting the bug in the stomach.

''Poison Jab!''

''Iron Head!''

The scene from the first fight repeated as Hawlucha successfully blocked the poisoned move, the luchador then jumped and headbutted Golisopod back.

''Dual Wingbeat!''

''Protect yourself!'' Golisopod put his arms together blocking the attacks with his armor.

''Flying Press!'' Hawlucha jumped over Golisopod's defenses dropping on his head, leaving the bug Type dizzy and giving Hawlucha an opening.

''Use Dual Wingbeat; and keep them coming!'' Hawlucha got close and started to land uppercuts on Golisopod's face.

''Hawlucha is giving its all!'' The announcer shouted. ''Right, Left, right, A HUGE uppercut from Hawlucha!''

Said huge uppercut made Golisopod fall back but it wasn't fainted yet.

''GOLISOPOD IS DOWN!'' The announcer shouted again.

''Get up, Golisopod!'' Nessa yelled at the Pokemon who tried to get up without success.

''PLANCHA VOLADORA!'' As Ash shouted, Hawlucha jumped and flew to the highest part of the stands, he landed there and after a few completely unnecessary yet fabulous poses he squatted to jump flying down and diving towards Golisopod, the samurai finally got up and tried to run away, but was ultimately reached by Hawlucha as the impact kicked up some dust, when the dust cleared Hawlucha had it wings covering his body as a cape on top of the fainted Golisopod.

''Golisopod is unable to battle! Hawlucha is the winner and the victory goes to Gym Challenger Ash Ketchum!''

''El hombre religioso ha ganado! WOO! Ash got his second Gym victory, people!'' The announcer shouted as the stadium went crazy, Nessa retrieved her Pokemon and then went to talk with Ash.

''Congrats Ash, you totally washed me away...hmm, I think I'm exaggerating with those puns, anyway, as a proof of your victory I shall give you the Water badge.'' Nessa offered Ash a golden Badge with the design of three water droplets.

''Thanks, Nessa.'' As usual Ash made his victory pose along his Pokemon. ''I won the Water badge!''

''Hey, Ash, after changing clothes meet me at the Pokemon Center.'' Nessa said while she was leaving the place. ''There's something I'd like to tell you.''

''Sure, I'll see you there.''

''Thanks for your help, everyone.'' Ash was talking to Snivy, Leavanny, Hawlucha, Donphan and Quilava through a video call, they had already been healed and sent back to the professor's lab. ''I'm really sorry that it took me so long to call you for a battle, make sure to tell the rest of my Pokemon that I'll be calling more of them soon, I want all of them to be prepared.'' The five Pokemon nodded to the order and went back to the ranch leaving Ash with the Professor.

''I'm glad everything is working out fine, Ash, I saw your battles in the TV and it looks like your Pokemon are really happy to be helping you in battles again.''

''I'm happy to have them battling again too, thanks for your help professor Oak, I'll be calling more of my Pokemon soon.''

''And I'll be waiting for that, Ash, good luck!''

''Ash Ketchum, your last Pokemon is fully healed.'' Nurse Joy called and Ash went to see her, Riolu's healing took longer than expected for some reason that Nurse Joy wasn't able to explain.

''Here, you go.'' Nurse Joy said handing over his Poke Ball. ''Sorry for the Delay, again.''

''No worries, Nurse Joy.'' Ash then proceeded to release the canine to check on him. ''Riolu, are you okay?''

''OL!'' The Pokemon barked not giving Ash the answer he was looking for.

''Are you sure?'' Ash asked again.

''OL.'' The Pokemon nodded.

''Totally sure?'' Ash continued to ask.

''Rio?'' The canine tilted his head confused.

''No, it's nothing...great fight today nonetheless.'' Ash gave up the idea, maybe it was just his imagination, after that chat he went to a couch were Cilan, Burgundy and Bea were talking.

''Hey, Cilan where are you going now?'' Ash asked.

''Truth be told, I'm not totally sure.'' He answered. ''There's still plenty of time before the league.''

''Why don't you guys travel with us then?'' Ash suggested.

''Traveling with you again? ...Ash, you have no idea of how tempting that sounds...but as much as I loved seeing your unorthodox battle style again, I'm afraid I'll have to decline, don't misunderstand me, I enjoyed our journey together together and I learned a lot too, still, I couldn't help but feel like I was being a side dish, I want to be the main course this time, I want to have my own perspective of The Galar region, with Burgundy by my side of course, I hope that doesn't disappoints you.''

''I'm pretty sure it wasn't.'' Bea agreed. ''Does Cilan always talk with food metaphors?''

''Ash!'' The aforementioned entered the center wearing a red short dress, with Valerie by her side. ''Thank you for waiting.''

''I wanted to...wish you good luck with the rest of your Gym challenge.''

''Oh... Well, Thanks, Nessa.''

''Yeah...that's all, goodbye.'' The Gym Leader was about to leave but Valerie placed an arm over her shoulder.

''Well...'' Nessa looked to the side as a faint blush formed in her cheeks. ''Truth is...that I haven't been able to get you out of my mind.''

''What do you mean?'' Ash asked in obliviousness, causing Nessa to giggle.

''What I mean is that I've been thinking about you for a while, you're quite the catch and that's not because you're becoming a popular and important trainer, you're a very kind and noble person and that's something hard to find these days, specially for someone like me, most people are only interested in the famous Gym Leader Nessa, not in the girl who likes fishing Nessa, you get what I mean, right?''

''What thin-'' Ash stopped as Nessa got closer to look him in the eyes, she was just a few centimeters from his face, Nessa then quickly looked at Bea and got back to Ash to give him a quick kiss on his right cheek.

''Consider that a thanks for the amazing battle.'' She said to a blushing Ash.

Everyone simply froze on their places shocked as Nessa left the place with a big smile, with Valerie following her shortly afterwards.

''Take care, Bea!'' Nessa said finally breaking the last bit of patience the girl had.

''Hey, chill out, haha.'' Cinderace quickly hold Bea on headlock, not strong enough to hurt her, but strong enough to stopping her from doing something she might regret later... No, she probably wouldn't regret it.

''Yup! It definitely was.'' Nessa answered with a smile.

''I can't believe I missed the battle because you made me make that dress.'' Valerie complained. ''All of that and you only gave him a kiss on the cheek, I thought you would ask him out or something like that.''

''Oh, don't worry, you saw his face after the kiss? I'm sure I hooked him at least.''

After Bea calmed down, the trainers made their way to the Hulbury outskirts and were just a few meters away from entering the mine.
