Chapter 16: Chapter16:Routine Farm Inspections
After the capture was complete, Natsume took Furret on a tour around the farm, introducing it to the partners residing there.
This also served as his daily inspection of the farm.
Although this task was time-consuming and labor-intensive, it was an essential routine at the beginning stages of managing the farm.
At least until he captured a powerful Psychic-type Pokémon or a Rotom, this work was something he needed to complete every day himself.
Powerful Psychic-type Pokémon often possess high intelligence and can use Inner Focus to sense everything across the farm, helping Natsume oversee various areas.
As for Rotom, it was one of the most popular Pokémon in today's era.
Rather than its battle capability, its support abilities were essential for any large enterprise.
The same goes for Porygon.
Considering that his family operates a farm, Natsume was particularly eager to have a Rotom for now; Porygon could wait for later.
Huh?
Are you asking if Natsume has enough machinery for Rotom to possess around the farm?
Ha, it's a new era of technological farming, my friend.
"Woof!"
At the edge of the farm, Mightyena, the father, happily rubbed against Natsume's hand, his tail spinning wildly like a helicopter rotor, completely ignoring the disdainful glances from his wife and child.
This guy is truly a dog, fighting for affection with his own kid.
To this, Mightyena's father replied: Confused and oblivious.
After a good pat on the head, Natsume left about three days' worth of Pokéblocks for the Mightyena family.
Although he had mentioned more than once that they could go play at their own living space, this family still preferred to live on the outskirts of the farm, spending their days basking in the sun while occasionally patrolling the area.
The Linoone family was similar in this regard.
In contrast to the Mightyena family's close-knit nature, the Linoone family resembled a treasure-hunting team that was busy doing their own things.
Zigzagoon could be spotted in various corners of the farm.
This morning, while getting ready in his bathroom, Natsume discovered a Zigzagoon digging through the cabinets with its rear end sticking up.
After pulling this Zigzagoon out, Natsume gave it a few light pats, only to be reprimanded by an aggrieved Buneary.
Yet, judging by the Zigzagoon's silly grin and its tongue sticking out, it probably didn't take any of it to heart.
Natsume felt helpless about this; while most Pokémon had intelligence similar to that of young children, children are known for their defiance against authority.
Reprimanding them just didn't work.
CopyRegenerate
This was true for the young Zigzagoon as well.
"Are these all for me?"
Standing in front of the tree hollow, Natsume looked at Linoone with some surprise.
The Linoone family had chosen a relatively large tree hollow in the farm's fruit woods to make their home.
The hollow was filled with treasures they had found while foraging around the farm.
Upon seeing Natsume arrive, Linoone pushed a pile of items out of the tree hollow that were clearly prepared for him.
These were things that Linoone believed Natsume would like.
"Thank you, Linoone."
Natsume ran his fingers through Linoone's smooth fur and, as usual, left a generous amount of Pokéblocks.
In contrast to the enthusiastic Mightyena father, Linoone seemed quite reserved.
It only gently bumped against Natsume's palm.
"Geiguo!"
A few Zigzagoon nearby bounced around, eager to show their own efforts.
I want to be petted too!
Seeing the impatient Zigzagoon, Natsume smiled and patted each of their heads in turn.
The Zigzagoon receiving the "reward" were like excited children at a sports day, full of energy and eager to show off their abilities.
Two of them dashed off immediately, ready to continue their treasure-hunting adventures.
Linoone cast a slightly apologetic glance at Natsume, seemingly feeling that its children's behavior was a bit rude.
After giving Linoone a comforting pat on the head and exchanging a few more words, Natsume left with the gifts from the Linoone family. Only then did he start to inspect what was among the pile of items.
"Let's see what we have here."
"A Clefairy doll, and it's pretty new."
"A can of unused Repel? This one doesn't seem very useful."
"This is an Oval Stone? Do we even have one of these on the farm?"
Most of the gifts from Linoone were various Berries, with a few other items mixed in.
The Clefairy doll and the Oval Stone were fine, but the Repel...
It just felt odd to use this on the farm.
For now, he would hold onto it; perhaps it would come in handy someday.
"Ulee."
With a gentle glow in its eyes, Butterfree used Confusion to lift the Berries and doll, lightening Natsume's burden.
"Li."
Furret tilted its head as it followed closely beside Natsume.
There are so many little partners on the farm, and they all seem like such nice individuals.
And none of them look at me with strange eyes.
Except for that Mightyena, who seems a bit dim-witted.
It gives off a silly vibe.
After taking a tour around the farm and checking out the construction site of the Construction Team, Natsume decided to head back and put the items away.
With Persian acting as the construction worker, there shouldn't be any issues over there.
Although he felt that the girl wasn't the type to cut corners, in this world, who could guarantee anything?
Just as he returned to the entrance of his home, Natsume spotted a Delibird with a small bag perched in front of him, holding up a small card and repeatedly looking up and down.
It seemed to be confirming something.
"Hello, are you here to deliver a package?"
Walking over quickly, Natsume inquired.
Not long ago, Natsume had ordered a batch of materials and machines for making Pokéblocks online.
If all went well, Delibird was here to deliver those items.
"Li Li."
Upon seeing Natsume, Delibird's eyes visibly brightened.
"Li Li."
Where have you been? I've been looking for you forever, and nobody answered the door.
That silly bird on the second floor kept staring at me, mumbling something I couldn't understand.
It felt a bit creepy, to be honest.
Reaching into its delivery uniform, Delibird pulled out a form and held it in front of Natsume.
Delibird kept complaining to Natsume, but it was still diligently doing its job, pulling out a large box that was clearly much bigger than its backpack.
"Sorry, sorry, I was just out inspecting the farm."
"I'll give Corvisquire a talking-to later."
After signing his name on the form, Natsume took the large box from Delibird and expressed his apology.
Waving a hand, Delibird dismissed it as a small matter, then flapped its little wings and headed off to the next location.
Halfway through its flight, Delibird suddenly realized: Can that human understand what I'm saying?
Thinking that Natsume had heard every word of its complaints filled Delibird with an indescribable sense of embarrassment.
Maybe this is what social death feels like.
Today's dose of embarrassment.
