Chapter 24 – The Unexpected Encounter! Shock!
A few minutes later, Kanraku's ship docked at an unknown location 24 kilometers away from the city. The area was full of beasts hovering in the forest, and they landed on Feng Bin coastline near the seashore.
Kanraku, Suzuki, Jonathan, Ivan, Bianca, and Floyd disembarked from the ship, but this time, Blastoise didn't follow. People would probably recognize Kanraku if he brought Blastoise with him. Even Suzaku's Wartortle stayed behind, fearing recognition as Lord Blue's offspring. Only Floyd's Axew and Bianca's Swablu followed them.
Dratini stayed because he wanted to train and find some Pokemon for sparring. Floyd simply nodded and left him healing powder and Pokeblocks to eat. As for Horsea, Floyd noticed that she seemed worried about something. When he asked her, she shook her head, unwilling to say anything. She seemed in a bad mood, so Floyd didn't press her and left her some food. Seeing his little brother and little sister didn't want to go, Axew offered to accompany Floyd to guard him.
Then, twelve Wartortles volunteered to help them reach the city, as 24 kilometers was quite a distance. Each of them rode two Wartortles, and they swiftly swam forward. It took just 20 minutes to cover half the distance. Afterward, the Wartortles bid them goodbye. Floyd gave each one a Pokeblock, which they happily accepted. Floyd and the others waved to them, seeing them wait by the seashore for their return.
They now needed to walk another 12 kilometers since Wartortle couldn't appear near the city.
Two hours later, they were almost outside the city. During the journey, they encountered three beasts who attacked them, all dealt with by Axew.
Watching this, Ivan and Jonathan desired to have one. Jonathan even regretted not bringing his beast (Rhyhorn) with him.
They also saw some beasts watching them carefully but not daring to appear, witnessing Axew's strength. So, they abandoned the thought of attacking. Kanraku felt an urge to collect them, but considering their mission, he rejected this idea, thinking wild beasts would just cause trouble.
A few minutes later, they reached a place called Lower Town, where most of the common people and beggars lived, and which had the highest crime rate. Kanraku's group chose this place due to its looser security. They avoided the commercial area with tight security, as they would surely be investigated for being foreigners. You know it's a rare occurrence for foreigner to appear in another country due to the danger posed by beasts on the ocean and in the air.
Only stealth aircraft and camouflage submarines were capable of escaping to beasts and they were only used for grand meetings, as it was hazardous to venture outside.
Upon entering, some guards were surprised and questioned them, but Kanraku immediately handed them a thick envelope and spoke in Chinese.
The guards were astonished by the thickness of the envelope and smiled warmly at them. Some people and beggars looked at them greedily, but backed away at the guards' stern looks.
A few minutes later, as Kanraku and the guards conversed, they reached the deeper part of Lower Town, which was bustling with merchants. This place was the most prosperous in Lower Town, just a few meters away from the Commercial area, which Kanraku's group didn't dare enter.
Upon arriving, they attracted attention, especially due to the striking appearances of Suzuki and Bianca, and the Austronesian features of Jonathan, Ivan, and Floyd, suggestive of Southeastern Asia. In contrast, Kanraku seemed the only ordinary one.
"A foreigner! Maybe it's big business!"
One after another, merchants greeted them and asked about their purpose. Kanraku politely responded with a smile. He even bought food and souvenirs for Floyd and the others, not wanting to upset the locals by not purchasing anything.
Floyd surveyed the surroundings, sensing it wasn't the area they were looking for.
Then, Kanraku instructed them: "Follow me," and they followed.
Seeing the foreigners moving away, some locals were disappointed, while others were pleased.
A few minutes later, they arrived at another area that seemed like a gambling place. However, since it was noon, not many sights were open.
Kanraku and the others walked towards a tent where people were practicing their weaponry marksmanship, using beasts as targets. The exaggerated performance that one couldn't execute with a human partner was being carried out using beasts as guinea pigs for training. It didn't matter if they got wounded; they would heal later, and if they died, one could buy another from the commercial area.
Kanraku recognized these individuals as circus performers who performed in the commercial district at night. He had seen them before and knew their place here in Lower Town.
Here, although the treatment of beasts was still harsh, it was better than in other places. It wasn't to the point where most would be sadistically tortured by the owner and die. There were still some beasts that would die, but the rate was lower compared to other places because the performers needed these beasts alive to earn money.
This place was actually good for recruiting people, but unfortunately, Kanraku was wanted here. So now, he didn't dare to go to the commercial district again to avoid causing more trouble, it's a pity because they could be new suppliers of beasts here.
Then, they heard a man's voice shouting at them. Kanraku smiled and expressed his intention. The man looked at them with a hint of inquiry, frowned, and started to speak again. Both Kanraku and the man discussed something, and since the others didn't understand what they were talking about, they wandered around and looked at the other tents.
They saw many Pokemon, especially Caterpie, Mime Jr., Hoppip, and surprisingly, even a Chikorita, one of the grass starters from the Johto Region. Despite not being a famous starter Pokemon in the past, it was still a starter Pokemon; all starter Pokemon have different charms, especially a cute one like Chikorita. However, her condition was poor, and she was surrounded by Pokemon like Oddish, Poochyena, Hoenn Regional Bird - Tailow, etc.
He noticed Bianca approaching the Chikorita, seemingly planning to transact with the owner. However, due to a language barrier, the transaction wasn't smooth. The owner didn't even pay attention to her until she presented an Oran Berry. The owner's eyes gleamed with greed, and they tried to communicate using hand gestures.
He looked at Ivan and Jonathan, and it seemed they were still undecided, but that was okay, there were still Pokemon on the ship. The only problem was that all the Pokemon there were afraid of humans; it must be hard to convince them.
Then, as he looked at other Pokemon, his eyes widened in shock on what he saw.
Was this real?
What did he see?
What did he see?
He saw a small, slug-like Pokémon with a soft, gelatinous body primarily of gray, light purple, or pinkish color. Its body was semi-transparent, giving it a slightly slimy appearance.
