October 20th, at dusk.

The day was coming to an end at the five venues in Division D, and the atmosphere remained electric with the excitement of the final elimination matches.

"Charmeleon, Flamethrower!"

Charmeleon's roar echoed as it unleashed a torrent of fire toward Gardevoir, whose hands rose gracefully.

"Light Screen," Bruce ordered calmly.

Psychic waves enveloped the air, forming a crystalline shield in front of Gardevoir.

The flames clashed against the barrier with a deafening burst, partially dissipating. Gardevoir effortlessly dodged the remnants of the attack with the elegance of a dancer, while its trainer observed with composure.

"Charmeleon, Shadow Claw!"

The opposing trainer sought to exploit Gardevoir's psychic typing. Charmeleon roared and charged at a remarkable speed. The shadows around its claws sharpened as it lunged toward Gardevoir.

However, Gardevoir remained poised, its eyes glowing with a brilliant purple hue. With unshakable calm, it faced Charmeleon's attack head-on.

Suddenly, Charmeleon found itself bound by a tyrannical psychic force, its body floating helplessly in mid-air.

"Roar!"

Charmeleon let out an enraged growl, struggling fiercely to break free of the Psychic grip. But no matter how much it fought, it was futile.

It felt as though an invisible giant hand was gripping it tightly, a suffocating sensation engulfing its body.

"Charmeleon!"

Seeing this, the trainer shouted in frustration.

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Charmeleon was held by Psychic and slammed violently to the ground.

Boom!

Charmeleon made heavy contact with the earth, and with a resounding thud, its eyes swirled into spirals.

"Charmeleon is unable to battle, so the winner is Bruce!" The referee raised his flag and announced loudly.

As the announcement echoed, a warm round of applause erupted from the stands.

"Ah, another victim."

"Actually, this guy did pretty well; he lasted five minutes against Bruce."

"Ahem, I also lasted five minutes."

"By the way, after this match, does it seem like Bruce is unbeatable?"

"He's through. He won all his matches and qualified directly."

"Unbelievable..."

With a calm expression, Bruce returned Gardevoir to its Poké Ball. He then walked toward his opponent in the center of the arena and shook hands.

To be fair, this rival was quite strong—among the dozen opponents Bruce had faced, this one ranked in the top three.

Two Pokémon close to professional level had caused Gardevoir some minor trouble.

As Bruce left the field, he pulled out his phone, logged onto the event's official website, and checked the rankings.

As expected, he topped the list with his flawless record of victories.

Additionally, Bin and a player from Kandor Metropolitan University also advanced with perfect records, each having Pokémon at the professional level.

At this stage, having a professional-level Pokémon was simply unreasonable and overwhelmingly superior.

Meanwhile, Azalea had suffered a loss, which Bruce had witnessed.

Her opponent was a descendant of the Ghost-type Gym Leader. When a Psychic type faces a Ghost type, the outcome is almost inevitable.

The two had fought fiercely for a long time, but in the end, Azalea fell short.

Oliver, on the other hand, performed well, losing only one match and successfully advancing to the main stage.

The remaining two players also advanced with commendable records, joining Bruce in the next round.

In total, all six contestants from Metropolitan University progressed to the main event.

Bruce had also been keeping an eye on his former squad leader. Despite losing three matches, the leader managed to qualify.

Overall, qualifying itself was an accomplishment.

As the golden hues of the setting sun blanketed the entire Kandor Competitive Sports Stadium, the elimination phase of the Freshman Student Exchange Competition officially came to an end!

Some were lost, others regretful, some joyful, and others content. A myriad of emotions intertwined on the field.

But no matter what, the competition was brutal—more than half the contestants were eliminated, leaving only sixty-four competitors.

These sixty-four would battle over the next two days for a final spot. Although the number of matches decreased, the intensity and bloodshed would significantly increase.

No one wanted to be eliminated during the main stage.

Everyone aspired to reach the final stage and bask in the admiration of university students from across the country.

Bruce, however, felt no particular sentiment about this. He simply saw the Freshman Student Exchange Competition as a way to test the results of three months of training.

He held the same view regarding the University League and the Avalon Conference—he would use them to evaluate his training progress and, incidentally, claim a championship medal.

"Want to go out tonight for some fun?" Bin suggested loudly on the bus ride back to the hotel.

The others seemed eager to agree, but Liam turned and smiled gently. "Everyone, rest up well for these days. Once the competition is over, you can have all the fun you want."

Professor Rodriguez also smiled. "After the tournament, let's go out together. It'll be my treat."

"Professor Rodriguez is the best!"

"Professor Rodriguez, you're amazing!"

Amidst the playful chatter, everyone returned to the hotel.

While waiting for dinner, Professor Rodriguez gathered the six contestants to discuss matters regarding the main event.

"You all did very well this time, advancing to the main stage. Let me congratulate you first."

After a brief pause, he continued with a more serious tone. "But don't take it lightly. The real competition begins now."

He looked at each of them with a solemn expression. "You must understand that no weak players make it through the trials to reach the main stage."

Perhaps influenced by his words, the expressions of the six participants gradually turned serious.

Rodriguez explained the format: "The main event is different from the elimination matches. If you lose even one match here, you're immediately eliminated."

The double-edged nature of this stage heightened the stakes. While winning three matches theoretically ensured progression, losing even the first match meant elimination.

The professor turned to Bruce and Bin. "I don't need to say much to you two—just maintain your current form."

Next, he addressed Azalea. "You've likely recognized your shortcomings from that match. It's difficult to recover when you're countered..."

Azalea bit her lower lip slightly but remained silent.

"Still, given your strength, advancing to the finals isn't a big issue as long as you stay in good condition. Just don't let a temporary loss affect you."

"Understood," Azalea replied softly.

Turning to Oliver, Rodriguez sighed. "Your situation is a bit riskier..."

After some time, Rodriguez concluded with encouragement: "In summary, give it your all without putting undue pressure on yourselves."

"Every step you take now is a record in itself."

"Just do your best."

With that, he left the six to their thoughts and turned his attention to the battle team.

Liam clapped his hands and smiled. "Alright, everyone, eat up and get some rest. Prepare to compete in top form tomorrow."

After dinner, Bruce and Bin walked back to their room side by side.

"I've already seen the final scene," Bin suddenly said with a smile.

Seeing Bruce's curious gaze, Bin slipped a hand into his pocket, leaned against the wall, and spoke nonchalantly. "You and I will be on the stage of the final showdown."

"In the audience, thousands will chant our names, and dazzling lights will illuminate us."

After saying this, Bin pointed at Bruce with a grin. "Bruce, even though I've lost to you twice already..."

"This time, I'll be waiting for you on the final stage."

"And under the watchful eyes of everyone, I'll defeat you!"

Bruce listened quietly before raising his eyes to meet Bin's. His calm response carried a confident edge. "If I've beaten you twice..."

"I can defeat you a third time."

Bin didn't reply, simply gazing at Bruce with an increasingly bright smile.

In that moment, he felt luckier than his uncle.

He had a strong rival who would always push him forward.

That night, Bruce sat on the balcony, admiring the nighttime view outside the window. His phone vibrated slightly on the table.

He picked it up and saw a message from Alice.

[Good luck in tomorrow's match!]

Bruce smiled, tapped the screen, and replied.

[Thank you, I've received your blessing.]

[Alright, goodnight!]

[Goodnight.]

Bruce was about to put down his phone when a news alert appeared on the screen.

[It has been reported that recently, the Pokémon Association in Fairbay City, in collaboration with security guards, has established a blockade in the thousands of kilometers along the southwestern border to deal with unauthorized entries promptly.]

Bruce raised an eyebrow and clicked on the news to read the specifics.

The report outlined how poachers and criminals occasionally crossed into Avalon through the southwestern border, significantly impacting the region's security.

To counter this, the Fairbay City Pokémon Association had joined forces with law enforcement to tighten border management and reduce such incidents.

Bruce examined the map shown in the news and noticed that not only the borders but also many secret and hazardous areas were now under management.

It was precisely this point, which was not mentioned in the news content.

After learning about the important affairs of his family and country, Bruce soon fell into a deep sleep.
