Pokemon: Behold the Father of All Pokemons

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Can Discharge?

Everyone knew that Ethan had majored in Biodesign, a field focused on creating genetic organisms. When New Century Biology peaked worldwide, biodesign became a highly sought-after discipline, prompting universities everywhere to establish related programs.

Back in college, Ethan's classmate and friend, Jerry, often led their lab projects. Rumor had it that Ethan's grades weren't stellar—a fact Jerry would casually mention from time to time.

Now, learning that Ethan was the creator behind the adorable creatures in the incubators left everyone stunned.

Privately, many had grumbled about Ethan, believing that his lack of foresight had led to the company's struggles. After all, it was Jerry who had walked away with valuable research. When it later emerged that Ethan hadn't even signed a contract with him, the general consensus was that he'd been too trusting and naive.

To make matters even worse, Ethan's attempts to defend the company's reputation had backfired, leading to the infamous "Porcelain Touching Scandal."

Although the company had now been rebranded as Pokémon Biotechnology, its former association as Lulu Biotechnology continued to cast a shadow upon it, further eroding confidence in its leadership.

But the thought harbored by the employees, especially one of the researchers named James Hunt was how could their boss create such a new and unique species and achieve such a major breakthrough?

"You doubt me huh?... So tell me, who else could it be that created this?" Ethan responded to James' skeptical glance, keeping his composure, and showing no hint of embarrassment.

The system works through me, so yes, this is my creation, Ethan thought to himself.

James was nearly speechless, but he managed to ask, "Mr. Grave, have you thought about publicizing this technology? It could be exactly what we need to turn the company's reputation around."

Given the negative attention from Jerry's smear tactics, James's frustration was evident. He felt that if they went public with Ethan's breakthrough, they could not only save their reputation but also make a lasting mark in the field of biological sciences.

"No need," Ethan replied with an air of indifference. "I'm not interested in fame. Besides, disclosing this technology would only make it easier for others to replicate it."

Whether or not his name would go down in history didn't concern him. Ethan knew that once these Pokémon became widely known, his legacy would naturally take root.

As soon as Pichu went public, any lingering doubts would fade.

Facts speak louder than words after all.

A hushed silence fell over the team. They were beginning to realize their boss was truly unique.

"All right, everyone, let's check on the baby Pichus' health," Ethan instructed with a smile. "And let's figure out what they eat."

James and the others got to work, conducting thorough examinations. Each of the 100 Pichu babies was in excellent health. For their diet, a quick test revealed that the common S168 nutritional supplement suited them perfectly.

"WOOOHH!" Suddenly, James exclaimed as he was feeding one of the Pichus.

"What's wrong?" someone asked.

"Did something happen?" others added, concerned.

Ethan turned toward James. "Is there an issue with that one?"

"No… but," James stammered, his tone a mix of surprise and delight, "it just shocked me!"

"Electricity?" The group exchanged puzzled looks until Ethan stepped in to explain. "When designing Pichu's genetic code, I included a few unique traits. They're able to produce small electric shocks."

"Their current is very weak but can cause a minor paralyzing effect. From now on, wear insulating gloves when feeding them."

The team's eyes widened in amazement.

Even James, who had just experienced it firsthand, was astonished. Few genetic organisms had the ability to discharge electricity and those that did commanded high prices in the market.

Their boss hadn't just created a new species, he'd given it remarkable abilities.

Two words came to everyone's mind: He's a Genius!

"These little ones don't yet understand how their electricity affects people, so they'll need a little guidance," Ethan said confidently.

"I hope they learn soon. If the New Century Genomics Evaluation labels them as 'dangerous and uncontrollable,' it could limit their market access," James expressed the team's concern.

Some new genetic organisms had been restricted after evaluation due to incidents, limiting their commercial potential.

"Don't worry," Ethan reassured them. "Let's focus on feeding and caring for them over the next few days, and we can teach them to control their discharges. Once they learn, we'll apply for the review."

The team nodded in agreement.

While the evaluation process was challenging, the birth of this new species had renewed everyone's confidence in Ethan and given them hope for the company's future.

Maybe Lulu Biotechnology…

No, now Pokémon Biotechnology… really could make a comeback.

Some began to think that staying with the company, rather than leaving, might have been the right choice after all.
