Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Move Discs
The masked man regretted not training his Weezing more thoroughly. He had recently purchased a Poison-type move disc but hadn't yet taught it to Weezing.
If Weezing had learned that Poison-type move, with its wider range compared to Sludge Impact, there might have been a chance to hit Charmander.
Now, their only hope rested on Drowzee's Confusion attack. Being intangible, it had successfully landed a hit before, injuring Charmander.
"Drowzee, use Confusion! Weezing, stop using Sludge and switch to Poison Gas!" The masked man abandoned Sludge, realizing if it couldn't land hits, they needed a different approach.
While Poison Gas wasn't particularly powerful, it could release large amounts of toxic fumes, directly poisoning the opponent.
However, Lian wouldn't give Weezing the opportunity to unleash Poison Gas; he swiftly commanded Dragon Rage.
The shockwave from Dragon Rage surged towards Weezing, while Drowzee's Confusion simultaneously aimed at Lian.
Boom!
The invisible Confusion collided perfectly with the shockwave, but it proved no match for Dragon Rage, instantly dispersing under the impact.
The shockwave continued unabated, slightly deviating but still heading directly towards Weezing.
With intense fury, Dragon Rage struck Weezing fiercely, causing significant damage and depleting its remaining stamina.
Unable to continue battling, Weezing lost its ability to float and helplessly fell at the masked man's feet.
Meanwhile, Treecko clinging to the wall unleashed another Mega Drain, inflicting further damage on Drowzee.
This sudden turn of events stunned the masked man; his Weezing had been defeated, something he never anticipated, as it took only two moves of Dragon Rage.
However, reality stood before him—the severely injured and unconscious Weezing lay at his feet.
Seeing Weezing defeated, Lian breathed a sigh of relief. The perfect outcome was that Dragon Rage precisely countered Confusion, allowing him to evade otherwise inevitable harm.
Now, only Drowzee remained. Throughout the battle, Treecko consistently targeted Drowzee, causing not much damage but still having a noticeable impact.
The masked man began considering retreat, realizing he couldn't defeat this Charmander. With his reliable Weezing, usually successful against novice Trainers, now defeated, there seemed no chance to continue.
He recalled Weezing into its Poké Ball, holding Teddiursa tightly, and commanded Drowzee to flee, sprinting deeper into the alley.
However, at that moment, Teddiursa woke up, sensing it was being held captive, and immediately started struggling. Its claws swiped wildly, scratching the masked man's arm.
"Ah!" Feeling a sharp pain, the masked man cried out, lost his balance, and stumbled onto the ground, allowing Teddiursa to escape.
Seeing the masked man injured by Teddiursa, Drowzee ignored Lian and prepared to attack the bear Pokémon directly.
An excellent opportunity!
Lian's eyes lit up; with Drowzee distracted, it was the perfect time to strike. He swiftly unleashed Dragon Rage again.
Focused on attacking Teddiursa, Drowzee, caught off guard, was precisely hit by the powerful shockwave generated by Dragon Rage.
Overwhelmed by the impact, Drowzee flew backward, crashing to the ground. Due to severe injuries, it slipped into unconsciousness.
Seeing both Pokemon defeated, Lian smiled with satisfaction. Thankfully, Treecko's relentless attacks ensured that one Dragon Rage was enough to take down Drowzee; otherwise, Teddiursa might have been drawn into further danger.
This time, his evaluation score would undoubtedly be very high. Apart from Lian himself being unavoidably hit by Confusion once, it was almost a perfect victory.
The masked man attempted to escape, but Teddiursa wouldn't let him go, relentlessly attacking without any protection from his Pokemon. Soon, he was covered in wounds.
Fortunately, Lian intervened just in time. The masked man was crucial, as finding him could lead to uncovering the group trafficking Pokemon—they couldn't risk killing him.
Lying on the ground, the masked man looked utterly despairing, riddled with scratches from Teddiursa and completely drained of strength to flee further.
Now they simply had to wait for Kalia and the others to catch up. Lian felt exhausted after such a perilous battle. Although it appeared effortless, maintaining constant vigilance throughout took not only physical energy but also mental strain.
Shortly, Kalia arrived along with the others, while Lian, worn out, had already fallen asleep.
Kalia was astonished to see the masked man subdued, her anxious mood instantly easing.
Julian rushed forward and embraced Teddiursa, feeling relieved that he almost lost his beloved Pokemon again. This Teddiursa held immense significance as his father had risked everything to obtain it from an Ursaring den.
Seeing both Treecko and Charmander unharmed brought comfort to Kalia. She recalled Treecko, picked up Charmander, and gently sprayed some Potion on its wounds.
The trio then turned their attention to the unconscious masked man lying on the ground, discussing what to do with him. Ultimately, they decided to hand him over to Falcon City's police department. Even if they knew the entrance to the underground, facing individuals armed with powerful Pokemon like Weezing would be too risky.
After reporting the incident, a female officer from Falcon City promptly arrived. The three trainers handed the masked man to her.
"Thank you for your help, but please avoid such dangerous situations in the future. These people are extremely vicious; not every encounter will end this fortunate," the officer expressed gratitude while kindly cautioning them.
"We understand."
"If we manage to capture these individuals and recover the missing Pokemon, I'll represent Falcon City in offering you some rewards." With those words, the officer took the masked man away.
After the policewoman left, Kalia and her friends also prepared to depart. Now, they just had to wait for news. With the masked man captured, it provided a significant breakthrough, and locating the entrance to the underground should be imminent.
"Hmm, that guy seems to have dropped something," Julian suddenly remarked, pointing at a plastic-wrapped disc on the ground.
Kalia glanced down, showing surprise. If she guessed correctly, it appeared to be a move-disc containing a specific move's information.
She picked up the disc, but its contents couldn't be discerned from the exterior alone; it required a disc player to reveal the stored move.
"This is a move-disc, which records a particular move for a Pokemon. If a compatible Pokemon watches it, there's a high chance they can learn the move," Kalia explained.
Move-discs were quite expensive, but Kalia had many of them, inherited from her father. They weren't consumable items, after all.
However, learning moves from discs wasn't as simple as having a Pokemon watch it a few times. Compatibility, along with sufficient aptitude and comprehension, were crucial factors. For example, no matter how many times you show a Fire-type move to a Water-type Pokemon, it would never be able to learn it.
Kalia had long planned to retrieve her old Grass-type move discs once Treecko evolved, allowing it to learn new techniques.
Similarly, after Charmander's evolution, she intended to purchase some Fire-type move discs so Charmander could master stronger Fire-type moves.
"Move discs, I heard they're incredibly expensive; you can't buy one for less than several thousand," Julian exclaimed, then brightened and asked, "Do you know what move is on this disc?"
"Not yet, we need to watch it first. Let's go to the Pokemon Center together; they should have a disc player there," Kalia suggested. The Pokemon Centers in Falcon City were well-equipped, naturally including disc players. However, move discs are typically personal items, rarely used at the centers, making them lesser-known among visitors.
"Sounds good."
Julian and Rosa eagerly agreed, their excitement palpable. No one knew which move was stored on the disc, but if it suited their Pokemon perfectly, it would be a significant advantage.
